DRC: UNT women grab double bye with milestone win over UTEP
ADLER replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Jalie has built a consistent winner with having winning seasons four of the past five years, and there are strong indications that she is preparing to raise the team to the next level through outstanding recruiting. -

UNT (23-5, 16-2 C-USA) was down 17-2 to start the game and down 14 at the half but fought back by outscoring UTEP (18-12, 11-7 C-USA) 47-35 in the second half. However, they fell just short. "UTEP came out physical and made tough baskets to start the game," said head coach Grant McCasland. "I love the fight of our group but we didn't give them 40 minutes of toughness." North Texas was led Saturday by Thomas Bell who recorded his sixth career double-double finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds — seven of which were offensive rebounds. (RV) UNT who sealed the Conference USA West Division title last week with a 56-49 victory over Louisiana Tech at the Super Pit heads into the 2022 C-USA Men's Basketball Championship in Frisco next and will play Thursday in the quarterfinals. UNT is the reigning champs. "We just can't have starts like we did today," McCasland said. "But nothing has changed. I still love our fight and we're still the regular season champs. We know what we have to do next week in Frisco. We've done it before."

DRC: UNT transfer Boyd lands at Oklahoma State
ADLER replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Wow, this decision sure bit N'Yah on the tail. She left a program where she was a star player having the time of her life and transferred to a school where she sits unhappily at the end of the bench for a cellar dweller. N'Yah has zero points, zero rebounds, zero steals, and zero assists riding the pine through the last four games while playing 2.5 minutes in each, all losses. 2021-22 SEASON STATS PTS 3.3 REB 2.3 AST 2.0 FG% 26.7 -

The opening round of the tourney begins on March 8th. QUOTING HEAD COACH JALIE MITCHELL"First and foremost, its senior day tomorrow. We're looking forward to celebrating our six that are graduating. It's always a bittersweet day because they've meant so much to our program. I'm glad we can recognize their contributions with their families in attendance. As far as UTEP goes, it's a big game. I thought when we went to their place, we weren't playing our best basketball. Looking back at it, there's a lot of things we could do differently. Even though we held UTSA to 51, I thought it could have been better. During this quick turnaround, that is something we will button up for Saturday." HISTORY- This will be the 19th all-time meeting between North Texas and UTEP.- The Miners lead the all-time series, 11-7.- They have split the last four matchups.- UTEP won the last meeting in El Paso, 75-62 on Feb. 3, 2022. The refs were bad, very bad. OK, so there was the Good, the Bad, and the Lady Roadrunners. Whah Whah Whah This was former North Texas women's coach Karen Aston coming back to North Texas determined not to lose. The Roadrunners fought back to tie the game and then had what appeared to be an insurmountable 7 point lead in the final two minutes. The UTSA players were all dancing and hugging their coach with congratulations. Then Maddie and Quincy dashed their celebrations and sent the shocked UTSA team pouting to the locker rooms. They'll have the whole bus ride to Rice to whine about the stolen opportunity.

I would never wish to do anything to disappoint our women's team. A couple decades back we played at Oklahoma State in basketball on the same evening that the OSU football team was playing Oklahoma. The football game was shown on their video boards. Everything seemed to work out well as it was a huge victory in their Bedlam game and the basketball fans were very pleased that they were able to keep up with both games.
-
I was actually thinking that it may get hundreds or more fans to attend their game, more to celebrate cutting the nets for their division championship, and possibly garnering them more fan support at the CUSA tournament in Frisco next week. We'll want to have as many fans there as possible. It'll be the women's team's version of this:
-
Maybe the men's game could be played on the video boards in the Super Pit? Wouldn't that be incredible? The video boards aren't really required for instant replay, and at the women's games most fans sit so close to the action that they're not reliant on the video boards. Would somebody with a little more influence than me please contact Wren and see if it can be done.

It's all we buy also. It has a fresh taste compared to most other vodkas and it's made right here in Denton County in Pilot Point. Western Son Vodka Website .

Not exactly a stellar Free Throw percentage, but I guess if you have a night like that it's best to have it when toying with UTSA. -

North Texas Women's Hoops Host UTSA Tonight at 6:30
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Possibly the best halftime show ever at a North Texas basketball game. Cheer squad performed the National Championship Award winning routine. I also involved the Dance Team and the Drum Line. I wish they would have performed it Saturday at the men's game. The crowd would have gone wild. I didn't post pictures of when the Dancers and Drum Line joined because I planned on showing their YouTube video. GONG! They can't show it on YouTube because it's part of the routine for the Cheer National Championship in April. Still a GREAT show. Sorry if you missed it.
