I hope they're in some post-season tournament. They certainly deserve it. If nothing else, the WBI that they've previously participated in. Women's Basketball Invitational

Southern Miss was riding high having their "Dream Season" with a 17-4 record with big victories including a win over the #4 ranked Florida Gators. Then North Texas went to Hattiesburg for the first three game conference stand of the season and smashed the Golden Eagles in all three games. With the drubbings the Mean Green advance to 14-4 on the season. Way To Go Mean Green Ladies!!! Next game is 6:00 Tuesday in Denton vs the 16-5 Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The game is sold out, but the free "Beer and Margarita" seating behind the Right Outfield wall is outstanding. Just back up your truck or SUV, but please leave enough room for people with folding chairs.

If the trend is still current, then why weren't any of the other teams wearing black uniforms? Has that fad passed? Every other school was wearing their school colors, as were their fans. Our fans are now limited to a variety of mostly black and gray crap from which to choose. We are the MEAN GREEN...Learn It, Live It, Love It.
-
Yes, like I've said, we have been able to overcome the curse at times in the past. But wouldn't it be better if memorable moments in our history were actually made while we are wearing our own school colors? We can't change the past but we can certainly build for the future. A huge component of that is creating our image. The 'select-whatever-uniforms-you-want-to-wear' should have gone away when we stopped being "that tiny music college in Texas". Bush league. We're now on the national stage and we're not just competing against TWU any more for attention. It's time to put on our big-boy boots and start supporting our school colors Green and White and promoting our branding. These are NCAA Division 1 athletics, not children's soccer teams where they choose the uniforms they'd like. And last year's football season proved that we're cursed when we start taking liberties with our colors and logos.
-
Fans seem to disregard how bad the luck is with these uniforms. We just lost two out two out of three games to teams with NET Ratings 100 and 50 below us. The UTEP crowd was a non-factor and the loss to La Tech was before a very partisan North Texas crowd. The gray and black uniform curse destroyed us. We simply stank up the joints wearing those colors. We lost at UTEP, not because of the Miners, but because we shot 6 of 18 from the free throw line in the first half. Think about that, most were the first half of what would have been 1&1 free throws. We were certainly cursed in the Tech game. I credit Tech for outstanding defense, but nothing was going in the basket, not even open layups. We had an alarming 13 points at halftime. We need to end the curse forever by disposing of those gray and black uniforms.
-
I think all the fans are horribly bummed. Our team wore gray uniforms and lost a game we all thought they would win. The NCAA Tournament would certainly have been more prestigious on a national scale, by a huge factor.... but, the NIT is going to be more fun for us. We are in an excellent position for NIT seeding and should be able to host at least one game and possibly more. Not to go all Bluto-speech, but we can make this NIT run a great series of events.
-
Does anybody on here think Duke suffers the same image issue that we do? Everybody on the planet recognizes their uniforms. Very few people in our own home state recognize ours. Our gray and our black uniforms look like crap, they don't represent our school, and our teams often play notoriously poorly when they wear them. I think most fans are fine with an occasional blackout game, a throwback game, or even pink-for-cancer games in October, but limit them to protect the integrity of our branding.
-
No other school play incessantly in alternate colors. Why on Earth would a team called the MEAN GREEN do that? Bad things happen. It's a curse. Our teams go stone cold to start games that they should be able to win. Seriously, what is the infatuation with non-school colors gray and black? Are we allowing people that have absolutely no affinity for our university influence these decisions?

When we look like shit we play like shit. All Doubt Erased. The early game woes destroy us. Last Saturday: North Texas men's basketball wears black costumes (our uniforms are our school colors) for the regular season final game against UTEP. North Texas can't overcome the curse, falls apart on offense, and shoots 53% from free throw line and loses. This one loss at UTEP has cost us the NCAA Tournament. Wednesday this week: North Texas Softball is flying high at 11-3 after winning their last two tournaments and torching Texas Tech in the process. The Mean Green have the highest profile guest team possible in the Texas Longhorns, play in front of an overflow crowd, but the Mean Green decide to wear unsightly black uniforms and subsequently get soundly trounced in a hitting drought at home 8-2 by a team wearing Burnt Orange. HUGE opportunity squandered in highest profile game. Sellout crowd and we wear black costumes. Are you f'n kidding me? Friday morning: The North Texas men decide to be the only team in the conference tournament, possibly the only team in any conference tournament to not wear it's school colors. For some idiotic reason North Texas wore gray. The Mean Green can barely score at all and make national news as the "team that only scored 13 points in the first half". This loss to underdog La Tech eliminated North Texas from any NCAA Tournament contention. Friday evening: The North Texas Women, wearing all black, are unable to overcome the curse as Charlotte runs out quickly to a 16 point first half lead. The women fought back to tie the game late but were unable to overcome the effects of the curse in the first half. Can someone name any other school that wore alternate color uniforms in their conference tournament? I know no other CUSA school did, and I doubt anyone else would. Our school colors are GREEN and WHITE. No other colors have ever been voted on by the student body, and no other colors have ever been approved by our Board of Regents. We don't lose EVERY time we wear weird alternate color uniforms (well, we did in football), but bad crap always seems to happen when we wear them. WE PLAY HORRIBLY IN ALTERNATE COLOR UNIFORMS AND... THEY DON'T REPRESENT "MEAN GREEN". GET RID OF THE CURSE!!! NEVER WEAR BLACK OR GRAY UNIFORMS EVER AGAIN!!! .

Rice Men's Basketball Headed to March Madness
ADLER replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think as a "buy in" tournament that they announce commitments as soon as they receive them. Committing early may even give Rice a better shot at securing a first round home game. The CBI isn't the most prestigious tournament but I sure had a blast when we won it in McCasland's first season.- 9 replies

Want The Automatic Bid? Beat La Tech Then UAB. That's It.
ADLER replied to Talon90's topic in Mean Green Basketball
La Tech and North Texas combined have more fans than the sideline seating can accommodate. GET THERE EARLY!!! GET THERE EARLY!!! GET THERE EARLY!!! GET THERE EARLY!!! And in case you didn't get that... GET THERE EARLY!!! Be at doors by 10:00, seating starts at 10:30, tipoff is 11:30 Get there early or you'll be watching from the balcony, or worse, from the other court area. -
The half price daily tickets are a MUCH better deal anyway. It's all General Admission and you can attend as many games per day as you want with the single game tickets. Unfortunately I bought the "full session" passes for $125 each on the PT Barnum Special. I wish I had saved the money and purchased more GREEN gear. Remember, WEAR GREEN, not white , black, or gray.

UNT scored three runs in the first inning and scored at least three runs in all five innings. Kalei Christensen started the scoring with a solo blast to right field to take a 1-0 advantage. Two batters later, Kailey Gamble singled through right side. Molly Rainey followed with a homer to right center, extending the lead to 3-0. The scoring didn't stop there as Cierra Simon picked up an RBI by bringing Mikayla Smith home. Tayla Evans later tripled to left center to bring two more runners home and extend the lead to 6-0. In the top of the third inning, the Mean Green continued to put runs on the board. The Mean Green were able to add four runs due to a passed ball, error, double and wild pitch before Gamble homered to right center to make the score 13-0. The Mean Green continued to capitalize on the Lady Jaguars mistakes and scored four more runs in the fourth inning before the Lady Jaguars tacked on seven runs with five hits to cut the deficit to 17-7. UNT was led by Gamble and Cobb who both finished 2-for-3 with two runs. Gamble added three RBI while Cobb added two, to the 19 total RBI that North Texas recorded. Game 2 Recap – UNT 11, Texas Tech 3 In the last game of the weekend, North Texas scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings once again. Lexi Cobb led the offensive surge in the first inning with a home run to right center on the third pitch. Molly Rainey came to the plate three batters later and homered to right center to extend the lead to 4-0. Texas Tech responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second before Peters ended the inning with a strikeout. In the second inning, UNT added two more hits including an RBI single to drive Ashlyn Walker home. Christensen would follow with a RBI groundout to bring Grahmann home and extend the lead to 6-2. The offense wasn't done yet though as Simon would single in the top of the third and Walker would hit another Mean Green home run to make the lead 8-2. Texas Tech would add one run in the bottom of the third before both teams would go scoreless for two innings. But the scoring would resume in the top of the sixth inning when Cobb led off with yet another homer, this time to right field to make it 9-3. Evans would single later in the inning before Gamble hit her second home run of the day, and first against Texas Tech, to extend the lead to 11-3. Peters (4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 K) picked up her sixth win of the season. Savage (2.0 IP) relieved her in the fifth inning and didn't surrender a hit. Payton Jackson led Texas Tech with a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate with two runs. Cobb led the Mean Green with a 3-for-3 afternoon with two home runs and three RBI. I haven't heard about it being a sellout, but even if, Wren may be able to make standing room only happen for fans that want to bring their own folding chairs. There's areas with a view past the dugouts. If nothing else, the beer seats in the outfield are always available.

The North Texas Men and Women do not play in the CUSA Basketball Tournament until Thursday. So... Please come out and support the North Texas Softball team on Wednesday evening as they host the Texas Longhorns. Our Mean Green (11-3) just blasted though Texas Tech's tournament with a 4-1 record this weekend as tournament champions. The game starts at 6:00 but try to get there early. The Longhorn fans travel well and will quickly claim many of the better seats. Get There Early. Wear Green. Be Loud. Wednesday, 6:00 Lovelace Stadium
