The "kitty-litter grey" uniforms were used as home uniforms for all the nob-challenging conference games, weren't our colors, and of course looked extremely ugly. You were at the UTEP game. Our off-color uniforms came back to curse the team when it mattered most. Have we ever shot 6 of 18 free throws in the first half before? Has any champions team? Many of those misses were front of 1-and-1's. Make only 3 of those and we're in the Big Dance this week.

There's a pretty good evaluation of the two teams on the Texas State Message Board: Maroon and Gold Bobcat Board

I actually had to pick through their older game stories to find a photograph of the softball team wearing any green at all. (a cold February game, look at fans with blankets) The ladies were wearing our school colors for their final game against Southern Miss though, and they looked BEAUTIFUL. MEANGREENSPORTS.COM Mean Green Sweep Southern Miss HATTIESBURG, Miss. – North Texas softball completed the series sweep of Southern Miss with a 5-4 come-from-behind win Sunday at the USM Softball Complex. The Mean Green start conference play with a conference-opening series sweep for the first time since 2017. QUOTING HEAD COACH RODNEY DELONG"It's always tough to sweep on the road. I'm proud of our team in winning three games against a talented Southern Miss team. We have another tough slate of games this week and I'm looking forward to watch our young team continue to grow." RECAPThe scoring started early as Southern Miss (17-8) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single. The Mean Green (14-4) responded in the top of the second when Molly Rainey scored after Cierra Simon reached on a fielder's choice to tie it at 1-1. In the bottom of the third, Southern Miss retook the lead on an RBI single up the middle and added another run on an RBI groundout to make the score 3-1. UNT once again countered in the top of the fourth as Kalei Christensen hit an RBI single to right field to bring Cierra Simon home for a run. Two batters later, Kailey Gamble picked up an RBI on a groundout as Lexi Cobb evened the game at 3-3. The Golden Eagles weren't done yet though as Maria Smith homered to left field to give them the 4-3 advantage heading into the seventh inning. The Mean Green then scored two runs in the seventh inning to regain the lead for good as they finished the series sweep over the Golden Eagles. Sydney Ingle brought Emma Grahmann home to even the game at 4-4 before Christensen singled in Ingle for the game winning run.Skylar Savage started and tossed the first three innings before Ashley Peters entered in relief in the fourth inning. Peters (4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 5 K) picked up her second win of the weekend and her eighth win of the season. Christensen finished the day 3-for-5 at bat and added two RBI, including the game-winning knock in the top of the seventh. Destini Brown once again led the Golden Eagles with a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate while adding two runs. Jana Lee (5-5) took the loss after coming in to relieve Morgan Leinstock in the fourth inning. She finished with two strikeouts, five hits, and two runs. UP NEXTUNT will host No. 11 Oklahoma State on Tuesday at 6 PM CT at Lovelace Stadium in Denton.

And Stebo should eat a crow. Hey, it worked for a bowl victory over Cincinnati.
-
Yeah, it's almost like we were "cursed" this past week. Thank you for the independent evaluation.

Dear Grant, We are playing Cats on Tuesday. Please do not put the team in the kitty-litter grey uniforms. Thank you .

Black and green together look lifeless and drab because they are the two most light absorbent colors. They look bad together up close, horrible when viewed from seating in an arena, and downright pitiful on television. (This is up close. From the stands, or worse on television, these uniforms blend into the background) The kitty-litter grays just look ugly. And, of course they're both cursed, and they cause us to miss free throws. Burn them after this season.

So, what becomes of the broken hearted? They wreak havoc in the NIT, that's what. Go Tylor, We Love You!

Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and SMU are among the regional teams that will be playing in the NIT. Any interest in hosting either one of those? ESPN U NIT SELECTION SPECIAL -- Sunday, March 13, 8:00 PM -- .

Either way we're doing damn well. Possible NCAA Bid or Guaranteed High Seeded NIT Bid hosting games? Both options are FANTASTIC!

I hope they're in some post-season tournament. They certainly deserve it. If nothing else, the WBI that they've previously participated in. Women's Basketball Invitational

Southern Miss was riding high having their "Dream Season" with a 17-4 record with big victories including a win over the #4 ranked Florida Gators. Then North Texas went to Hattiesburg for the first three game conference stand of the season and smashed the Golden Eagles in all three games. With the drubbings the Mean Green advance to 14-4 on the season. Way To Go Mean Green Ladies!!! Next game is 6:00 Tuesday in Denton vs the 16-5 Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The game is sold out, but the free "Beer and Margarita" seating behind the Right Outfield wall is outstanding. Just back up your truck or SUV, but please leave enough room for people with folding chairs.

If the trend is still current, then why weren't any of the other teams wearing black uniforms? Has that fad passed? Every other school was wearing their school colors, as were their fans. Our fans are now limited to a variety of mostly black and gray crap from which to choose. We are the MEAN GREEN...Learn It, Live It, Love It.

Yes, like I've said, we have been able to overcome the curse at times in the past. But wouldn't it be better if memorable moments in our history were actually made while we are wearing our own school colors? We can't change the past but we can certainly build for the future. A huge component of that is creating our image. The 'select-whatever-uniforms-you-want-to-wear' should have gone away when we stopped being "that tiny music college in Texas". Bush league. We're now on the national stage and we're not just competing against TWU any more for attention. It's time to put on our big-boy boots and start supporting our school colors Green and White and promoting our branding. These are NCAA Division 1 athletics, not children's soccer teams where they choose the uniforms they'd like. And last year's football season proved that we're cursed when we start taking liberties with our colors and logos.
