  1. Please explain how this is not the exact same "wait and see approach" that kept Fouts from being replaced for 60 years and eventually resulted in us being banished to 1AA purgatory. This is appropriately called the "Al Hurley approach". We really need our student side to be about 30 rows taller. It's going to be a huge black eye for the university if it's not completed by the 2027 game hosting Texas Tech. We need the necessary infrastructure to be able to host our peers. We're not a tiny university any more. We shouldn't be thinking of ourselves as one or projecting ourselves as one. Can you name any other college in the nation who's stadium capacity is 50% lower than it's student enrollment? Anyone? I'll hang up and listen.
  2. I know there's a lot of "never improve a product until it consistently sells out" pundits out there, but... A top priority needs to be the expansion of Apogee Stadium. The UTSA game this past week clearly illustrated the increase in demand with a winning program, and we need to prepare as if we plan on winning. The future annual schedules against AAC schools should be enough to incredibly bounce attendence, and the scheduled home games against Big XII teams like Texas Tech could be a real embarrassment if our stadium is too tiny to properly host them. Our 45,000 students are all required to pay athletics fees, does anybody believe that there's not going to be a shit-show if they aren't granted admission to the games they finally want to attend? With Charlotte's announcement May 24 that they are doubling seating capacity at Richardson Stadium, that will leave North Texas and Tulsa as the smallest stadiums in the new AAC at 30K each. Tulsa has an undergraduate enrollment of 2,728 so a 30K stadium might work for them, but it doesn't for us. Another reason is we really need to be proactive in creating separation between us and the flood of schools in Texas preparing to join FBS football. SHSU is already joining CUSA for next year, SFA, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, and UT Rio Grand Valley are planning to move to FBS in 2025, while Houston Christian (formerly HBU) and Incarnate Word are evaluating making the jump. That's 18 FBS schools in Texas by 2025: WAC teams moving to FBS with others possible soon after. We may never receive an invitation to join a P5 conference, but we need to do everything possible elevating our program to separate ourselves from being comparable with all these move-ups. Right now we need to make an excellent hire for the coach, and we need to expand Apogee. Those are equally important. Apogee's student side should be built up like Virginia Tech's stadium .
  3. Guys, please note that it is Justin Fuente, not Justin Fuentes We don't want to hire the wrong guy. There is a fashion designer named Justin Fuentes out there on the web, but he has no known knowledge of football, and he obviously dislikes our school colors as much as our current equipment manager.
  4. True, but likely after he's returned here as an offensive coordinator.
  5. Oddly enough, this could all help us bring in Graham Harrell back as our Offensive Coordinator. Wren Bakers first challenge at WVU will be limiting the financial losses involved with terminating coach Neal Brown including reducing his guaranteed $16 million buyout. Additionally, Harrell has a guaranteed $800K contract for next year and $850K for 2024. Wren will likely negotiate to have WKU assume a large portion of Graham's contract if he accepts a position elsewhere. That could be with us, at least for the first two years of Graham's service in Denton. Would our new head coach want him? Would Graham want to return to North Texas? This was the site of his greatest success, and it could wind up being a really good financial win both for him and the Mean Green. And, if all goes well, Graham may be a candidate in the future for our head coach position. And, keep an eye on this ESPN story He will have two years eligibility remaining as will former North Texas recruit Chase Griffin who has graduated at UCLA. .
  6. The upper deck is more for aesthetics than function. It does encircle three quarters of the court but it is only five rows deep. That building with it's 4000 seat lower level would be an excellent volleyball facility for North Texas.
  7. Only school colors should be used, GREEN and WHITE. And we should never be listed as N Texas. Our university branding dictates North Texas or UNT. Other schools would immediately issue a cease and desist letter if media outlets were monkeying with their branding.
  8. Guys, give him time. There's still the shock of the announcement but Seth has always been a class act, and he's proven that he loves this team. I don't know whether he'll be at the Frisco Bowl or not, but I can guarantee that he will be cheering for his players.
  9. All's fine as long as he doesn't hire an agent and is clear to return next season. Many of you are probably rolling your eyes at this point. Please hear me out. True, Aune is probably the least heralded record setting quarterback around. He had the dubious honor of taking the stage after one of our greatest performers ever, Mason Fine. He's been good, on rare times spectacular, with several forgetable performances mixed in. Yet every year we sign a new Wonderboy to replace him, and Aune has continually beaten them out for the job. By announcing his intentions to turn pro, Aune's scholarship can be awarded to another player, so this benefits us. Aune may not have Elon Musk money but he's got to be very financially secure, and the price of a year's tuition is extremely cost efficient to pursue his favorite hobby while advancing his education. I say hobby because as a 30 year old, husband, father, post-graduate student, and successful business owner, Aune really needs football about as much as he needs a pet elephant. During this upcoming season North Texas and Aune will continue to gain notoriety, as not only being the oldest current player in NCAA major football, but alo being the oldest player in FBS football history to ever score a touchdown (Colorado and Western Michigan have had older kickers). Then he can try to go pro after next season, even if he's played a reserve role. If he makes it onto an NFL roster, even just for a training camp, that just adds another chapter to his legacy. These are the kind of stories that books, movies, and legends are based on, and it's one of ours creating that story. "The End Is Inevitable Maverick. Your kind Is Heading To Extinction." "Maybe So, Sir, But Not Today." .
  10. WKU and MTSU will probably collect all the departure fees owed them by the schools leaving for the Sun Belt and AAC and leave for the MAC. Lat Tech will probably do likewise and rejoin their local rivals in the AAC. C-USA will then be left with fewer than the required continuing members to collect their banked NCAA Basketball credits, which will then be distributed to the schools that earned them (Yea Us!) The C-USA will be left without a media contract and no revenue stream, and a drop to 1-AA or independence awaits it's members.
  11. Hopefully they were mourning the end of black erroneously being used as a school color by our athletics department and spirit groups. It clearly is not, and such use is a violation of university policy. Black may only be used as a tertiary accent accent color in outlining school marks or for printed marks in monochromatic communications. University of North Texas Board of Regents approval is required for any deviation from this policy. Any intentional deviation from university policies can result in disciplinary action and possibly termination. These statements are not opinion, they are policy.
  12. Not impossible, but extremely highly unlikely. State law says that the job opening is supposed to be posted as open for 30 days. That said, it doesn't always happen that way. But, I'd almost bet that BOTH our future football coach and our future AD will be in attendance at this game. One may already be on staff and the other may have been in informal discussions with North Texas for a while. .
  13. It sounds like one hell of an opportunity for a beer and cocktails party to me; a perfect addition to the holiday season.
  14. Fuente could be incredible. I don't know if we could get him, but that would be somebody that has proven that he can do it.
  15. Most of the posters on the board speculate when they don't know the answers. 9299 Does know the accurate information.
  16. Jared should learn our school colors and become Athletic Director. If not, he'll still be a very good assistant athletic director on somebody's staff.
  17. Hey, while we're at it, we should equally consider bringing back Dan McCarney as coach. He had a much better career than Dickey, three times as many bowl victories, and didn't have the jackass antics. Sure McCarney would be a horrible hire, but he'd still be 1000% better than Dickey.
  18. Unless it's a "Blackout" promotion, black unis should get any North Texas football coach fired.
  19. Does anybody think Bennett wants to imitate Buddy Ryan right now?
  20. Wren did incredibly well with the financial aspects, our student athletes thrived with excellent APR scores, fundraising, and we were winning in just about every sport. That's 95% of his responsibility. Where Wren did fail was in marketing, branding, and gameday promotions. Those kind of fell into the "who really gives a poop" file because the results were not measurable and didn't include financial incentives. Values and traditions that are canon at almost all other schools were simply ignored here.
  21. This is outrageous! We should FIRE WREN before he has a chance to go to West Virginia! Then, rehire Johnny Jones and FIRE JOHNNY as well!
  22. It should be a distraction for some players Friday. Wren has proven that he's not timid at all about buying out a contract, and WVU has proven that they aren't concerned about financing a buyout if it gets them the coach that they want, and waiting until January 1 will significantly reduce that buyout. Who would Wren want as his new football coach? Who's name would be at the very TOP of that list? Hmmm? Who does Wren know of that is a proven young football coach in C-USA? Two conference titles in 3 years? Had a higher rated recruiting class than UCLA in only his second year? And, a coach that is already friends with Wren Baker? Of course NOTHING can be mentioned prior to January 1 but it's probably already in works. That delay will save WVU a half million dollars on the future coach and a million on the departing coach, making this call even more obvious. So yes, it should be a distraction.
  23. Not meaning to jinx it, but that would be incredible.
  24. I'd be happy with either of those destinations, a local bowl, or even Shreveport. ESPN seems to own all the smaller bowls so anything is possible. I would prefer though to play against somebody that hasn't clobbered us recently in a bowl game.
  25. They're already sending vans, ... moving vans.
