Well, .............there's not even a noun in our team name, but it's what we've got. Let's make the most of it. If we are going to be Mean Green, then we sure as hell better be outfitted in Green. Not just wearing Green, but totally ensconcing ourselves in Green. It's time for all our sports to get rid of all the gray and black substitutes for uniforms, get the Brigade to stop playing Paint it Black, and separate from everything else that is so obviously detrimental to our branding.

According to Wikipedia: School colors (also known as university colors or college colors) are the colors chosen by a school as part of its brand identity, used on building signage, web pages, branded apparel, and the uniforms of sports teams. They promote connection to the school – or 'school spirit' – and help differentiate it from other institutions. What have we been allowing to go wrong? How do gray and black benefit us? Are Neal Smatresk and Jared Mosley up to the challenge of correcting this horrible trend?

And how exactly has this lack of adherence to our branding affected us? Let's look at the recent CUSA Championship. UTSA, a city commuter college until a decade ago, was a sea of orange and blue.. North Texas, with long established athletics, other than the Brigade, a splotch of gray and black in the dome. These were many of our most dedicated fans. This single INTENTIONAL OVERSIGHT, mostly because black and gray gear is easier for distributors to find, has done a world of damage to our school spirit. If people don't feel that they are a part of something special, don't expect them to get emotionally invested or anxious to make financial contributions.

It does exist for North Texas, but... The athletics department treats that information much the same way a dog treats a fire hydrant. School colors as approved by North Texas Board of Regents Our school colors are Green and White as selected by the student body in 1904. Since 2006 black is approved only as a tertiary color for outlining green or white logos and is only permitted for logos printed on monochromatic documents where green is not an option. Any deviation from this format is a violation of university policy. Other schools strictly adhere to their university colors and their branding is immediately recognizable. We don't, and for the last decade we have wound up with a hodgepodge of colors and throwback logos. Basically, despite athletic success our branding has gone to shit in the last decade. Our university's identity is aligned with a color more than just about any school in the country yet we have allowed athletics staff and teams to continually utilize other colors not representative of our school simply because they're "fashionable" and "they personallly like them better". This same sneaky little shit was previously done 1995-2005 by unofficially adding blue and copper as accent colors. Those colors were also equally horrible but they didn't spill into uniforms and fan gear the way gray and black have.

Coach Morris on with David Smoak at 4 today.
ADLER replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I love that Mosely and Morris have made a commitment to the Mean Green actually wearing Green. It's time to let the crap-of-the-week off-color costumes go away. I know a lot of our players grew up being Hannah Montana fans and desired a new wardrobe every week, but these aren't stage outfits, they're uniforms. Let's work on improving our MEAN GREEN branding.- 22 replies

I believe it was $1.2 mil per year for his six years with the Yankees. His portfolio has probably doubled, if not tripled, since the 2012-2017 baseball seasons. Either way, the man has had an outstanding football career with another collegiate chapter still to come. He is already the oldest non-kicker to ever score in FBS football. It's an amazing story. I'd love to see him transfer and play a bit role on a national championship team.

Ousmane with 37 points and 11 boards last night!
ADLER replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Abou's herculean effort, the second best offensive performance of any North Texas player in the past 20 years, was enough to thwart the rally by a very very bad UTSA team and overcome for one night the embarrassing curse of the horrendous trash-bag black uniforms. Why tempt fate? This ill-advised uniform selection could have caused the same results it did in last year's UTEP game, that shocking upset ruined a perfect 2021-2022 road record and singlehandedly kept us from receiving an at-large NCAA Tourney bid. How bad was the decision to to switch to meaningless black uniforms? This game's hero, Abou Ousmane, passed the ball to a referee. This incident was reminiscent of the game altering incident when Mason Fine tossed a pick-six directly to a UAB linebacker while scrambling. Play in our school colors Green and White and this crap just doesn't happen. These constant uniform changes to non-traditional colors cause performance issues in addition to being bad luck and unsightly. . -
Franco was one of the former Steelers and NFL Hall Of Fame players that came to Apogee for the unveiling of Mean Joe Greene's statue. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers Hall-of-Famer Franco Harris has died at the age of 72, just days before the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, sources confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. Harris played for the Steelers from 1972 to 1983 and was famous for that incredible play that won the Steelers their first playoff game 50 years ago. Several events were planned in Pittsburgh in the days ahead marking the anniversary of The Immaculate Reception. The cause of Franco Harris’ death was not immediately known.

Then Marcus got to witness the domination caused when this team wears GREEN! North Texas’ physicality breaks UMass basketball in 2nd half at MassMutual Center Why EVER wear dishrag gray or trashbag black uniforms again? Wear MEAN GREEN and WIN!!!

I think they just dragged some old Middle Tennessee uniforms out of a dumpster and marked out the names on the back. This of course would piss off the College Football Gods. Boise would need their opponents to do something really stupid to save them from the certain wrath. North Texas did just that as they outfitted their MEAN GREEN team in black and white uniforms with tiny green stripes on the numbers. "Hey, we're on National Television, let's wear something other than our school colors!" The outcome was predictable as North Texas was AGAIN unable to overcome horrendous uniform selections in a bowl game, We would have won this game tonight if we had worn our GREEN and WHITE. .
-
Great things happen when we play in our school colors. We beat schools like the alma mater of Dr J and Marcus Camby.
-
The black helmets with the tiny green shiny spot stink to high heaven. .
-
It outright SUCKS! We're the MEAN f'n GREEN yet our equipment staff picks out black and white uniforms with tiny green stripes on the numbers. All this black crap needs to go. It isn't a school color, never has been, and never will be.
-
Black Helmets? I guess our equipment manager is pulling a Dickey in his last game before he too get's terminated for poor performance.

They're appropriate only for an annual Blackout Game at home. Our teams need to represent our university with only our school colors when they play away games. Back on subject, wasn't our KENPOM rating high enough last season to guarantee an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, well, until we had a horrendous free throw shooting day and were upset by UTEP in our last regular season game? Didn't that one loss keep us from making the tourney? What few times we are highly favored and then get upset seem to have something in common. .
-
We were favored to win that tournament that evening but the trash bag uniforms again sealed our fate.

Officially SUSPENDED by Texas today. -
Why do some dogs eat their vomit? If it caused them to regurgitate the first time, why should they ever consider consuming it again?
-
Wow, that was an incredible, exciting game.

Great hire. I hope Jared can now enjoy a nice bottle of champagne and relax by the fireplace while burning all his old noncompliant black North Texas gear. He is now the Athletic Director for the MEAN GREEN. He needs to remember that.

Those are all cute ideas for after we get our necessary infrastructure built. Until then, we need to look at what the big schools that are elevating out of the AAC (Cincy, UCF, and Houston) and what current teams that will be competing with us for dominance (Memphis, UTSA) have. After that's complete we can jack with all the Martha Stewart amenities that athletic department employees would like to have.

We are a huge Division 1 sports playing university. We should strive to make our most visible sports facilities at least on par with the Big XII institutions.

Well, this simplifies things. Now we know for sure our new coach will need a new offensive coordinator. Hopefully we'll have a new head coach in place soon, and he'll need to select an offensive coordinator. I am partial to bringing Graham Harrell back for that position but that will have to be the head coach's decision.
