Embarrasing showing by TCU
ADLER replied to cousin oliver's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
True, TCU and North Texas are not the same, but, that loss yesterday has essentially terminated hopes that the Big XII will be anything other than a high G-7 conference after Texas and Oklahoma's departure. That loss will be Exhibit A referenced in any future debate regarding comparable leagues. The yet to be announced Pac defections are going to create the other G-7. -
Best of luck to Jake at Baylor. To Jake, thank you for your time at North Texas.

BTW, I refuse to dance on TCU's grave. It was an incredible accomplishment for them to make it this far and I salute them.- 98 replies

Embarrasing showing by TCU

Let's see. Michigan throttled Ohio State 45-23. TCU puts up a hell of a fight and beats Michigan. Ohio State loses to Georgia when on a fluke when the incredible OSU kicker shanks a field goal. TCU's equipment manager says "Hey, why don't we wear black and white instead of our school colors. The kids really like wearing uniforms that aren't our school colors." The rest is history. There's a moral in there somewhere. For the oblivious, it's NEVER ...- 98 replies

So for now, what is the Stadium's name?
ADLER replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
What a beautiful succint concise answer. -
Oh, Adler was watching. It was a miraculous comeback required to overcome a horrendously bad decision. We're down 19 points in the first 14 minutes of a game playing against somebody we're expected to beat. You would have to be pretty oblivious to not notice that we play horribly when wearing the trash bags. This time we were eventually able to come back and overcome the mistake, but, like in seasons past, the garbage bags have an established history of keeping us out of the NCAA Tournament. Why take this incredibly stupid risk? .

Mean Green Soccer adds some fire power to the offense!

She graduated in her first two years of college. She must be an incredible student that entered college with a load of AP credits and then took a heavy course load to graduate so quickly. -

Very impressive player. She's played three seasons. Will this be her last season, or does the 2020 season not count against eligibility like with football and basketball? -
Maybe we should wear gray and black uniforms and throw rancid leftover food from local restaurants in the air every time we score. Who cares if it's a concoction of dumb ass ideas that have nothing to do with our school, as long as the kids like it we should do it.
-
Maybe we should let the kids pick the dinner menu as well.
-
Yeah, but our presentation would be so much better 😉
-
Great idea. Maybe also show the Post-Game Show on the Jumbotron as well immediately after the tower lighting and You'll Never Walk Alone.

Thunderstruck was awesome. Does any other school currently use it?

I believe that, until Aune hires an agent, that he will be able to return to college ball next season, and that very likely that would be at another school through the transfer portal. He gave his all for us and I'll cheer for him regardless of what he decides to do, as long as it's not playing for somebody that we're scheduled to play against.

The "too many fans for standing room" is what pushed North Texas to build what would eventually be named Fouts Field. Unfortunately the new stadium was built, per AD Fouts, to be a track configuration which could also be used for football. This horrible decision was incredibly detrimental to the football program. It was incredibly hard to sell out the stadium due to it's incredibly bad sight lines, and the negative ninnies would say for the next 60 years " why fix the stadium situation if we're not selling out what we currently have". These ninnies almost killed off North Texas football and they continue today by opposing expanding necessary functional seating at Apogee.

I appreciate what Austin has done for us. We needed him much more than he needed college football. He came in every year and beat out every wonderboy / super athlete that we've recruited to take his place, yet he supported them and encouraged them every time they were in a game. Like all our players, he risks his health and wellbeing every time he steps on that field, and he has never once complained or shown contempt for the school, fans, or football program. He was always the person that rushed to congratulate players that made outstanding plays and encouraged the ones that were having rough days to perform their best. I saw very little of this interaction from his head coach. I hope for the best for him in whatever he does, and I look forward to the day when he is inducted into our Hall of Fame. He has always been a class act and I predict he is going to be an outstanding leader in our letterman's program. And if perchance he reads this, Thank You Austin. .

The short story: My mother's family was instrumental in the founding of the college in the 1830's (University of Louisiana back then) her family was multi generational Law graduates with a family ancestor's portrait hanging in the University President's office, on my father's side, my gg and g-grandfather were Tulane Med as well as my grandfather who met my grandmother on the steps of Gibson Hall. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces are all Tulane grads. Cousin played on the 73 Bluebonnet Bowl team and all the buses brought all the Tulane booster club from the old Shamrock Hotel to our house in Houston Memorial for the big party the night before the game. And, I am best friends with Paul Tulane's only known descendant, Paul Tulane _______ IV, though originally illegitimate at birth, retained Paul's instructions (now with TU) on how he wanted his son raised and generously provided to take him through Emory Med and well fund a practice in Houston. And also, my daughter put Tulane as her top choice for early acceptance when she became a full National Merit Scholarship recipient and is currently pre-med at Tulane. I grew up involved with Tulane, and still stay as involved with New Orleans as much as possible. Family has 7 krewe spots in Bacchus, so I'm there every year for Mardi Gras and have even ridden a couple times.

Odus Mitchell was hired, with no players on the team, six days before North Texas was scheduled to play at Texas A&M. The Aggies were incredibly deep with all the players that had returned the previous year from WWII. Odus had to recruit players from campus to create his offense and defense. Unfortunately there was really no time to spend on special teams. The Aggies dominated, mostly on the back of 339 punt return yards, an NCAA record which will probably never be broken. To take that rag-tag team to become conference champions his first two years is one of the best football stories of this past century.

I'm at the game right now and wearing my Green. It's a sea of blue and green on one side and a sea of red and yellow on the other. Pageantry builds unity, unity brings loyalty, loyalty makes your future. Sometimes you've got to say "What the f, why would we EVER wear gray or black".
