  1. MeanGreenSports.com ATLANTA – Cierra Simon and Mikayla Smith combine to drive in seven runs as No. 24 UNT tally 10-2 win in six innings over UConn on Saturday at the Buzz Classic.Simon matched her career highs in hits and RBI with a 3-3 performance with three RBI and a run scored. Smith finished 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, including a three-run home run.Skylar Savage collected the win in 4.0 innings pitched, allowing three hits and one earned run, while striking out five. HOW IT HAPPENED VS. UCONN After a pair of leadoff walks in the top of the second inning, Smith took advantage of the first pitch she saw, driving it over the left field wall to establish a 3-0 lead for the Mean Green. Savage retired eight of the first nine batters she faced with Lexi Cobb collecting an outfield assist for the final out in the bottom of the second to hold the Huskies scoreless. In the fourth inning, Smith struck again, lacing a single to center field to drive in Molly Rainey and advance Jodie Epperson to third, giving UNT a 4-0 advantage. The next at bat, Simon followed with a two-RBI double down the left field line to widen the gap to 6-0. North Texas would go on to bat through the entire lineup with Tatum Sparks and Molly Rainey collecting an RBI on a ground out and walk, respectively, for an 8-0 lead after four innings. The Mean Green gave up its first run of the year in the fourth innings but still held the 8-1 edge. Kailey Gamble led off the sixth inning with the first home run of her campaign to open a 9-1 North Texas lead. The long ball marks the 20th career home run for the first baseman. Later in the inning, Simon came to the plate with two runners on and collected an RBI single to plate pinch hitter Rylee Nicholson for a 10-1 UNT lead. McKenzie Wagoner came to the circle in relief, striking out three over 2.0 innings, including the last batter of the game. The Huskies pulled a run back in the home half of the sixth but could not hold off the run rule, ending the game 10-2 for the third North Texas win of the season. NOTES The Mean Green have only allowed two runs on the young season, the fewest through three games in UNT softball history. Gamble hit a home run on the same date two years in a row, dropping a two-run shot against Tulsa on February 11, 2022, at The Evangeline Bank and Trust and Invitational I in Lake Charles, La. Saturday's second game against Georgia Tech was canceled due to inclement weather in the area. UP NEXTUNT will finish the weekend versus hosts Georgia Tech at 11:30 a.m. CT on Sunday. The game can be seen live on ACC Network Extra.
  2. You're correct. The Big12 sacrificed that momey from UT and OU to get them out by 2024. This wouldn't have happened if the Big12 didn't already have replacements ready to board. Nobody has signed the GOR and the Pac12 will have no media deal in 2024. The "4 Corners" schools are certain to join the Big12, and maybe a couple others may either join them or go to the Big10. Florida State is supposedly pushing this:
  3. North Texas (3-0 in tournament) is at minimum Co-Champions, outright champions if the weather clears and allows the Mean Green to beat Georgia Tech tomorrow. It's nice to have a tournament championship this early in the season.
  4. UConn has always taken women's sports very seriously. This Huskies softball team is the defending Big East Conference Champions, made the 2022 NCAA Regionals, and has a 1993 National Championship "College World Series" Trophy in their display case. Today, against North Texas, those mighty Huskies were down 8-0 before they achieved their first runner standing on base. Rodney DeLong's Mean Green have outscored their opponents 23-2 while going 3-0 so far this season. Absolutely amazing. Congratulations North Texas Softball. Next up, Georgia Tech! . .
  5. What in the wild, wild, world of sports is going on out there. The university strongly emphasizes that these hazing charges are totally separate from the child predation, the gang fights, and the Albuquerque murder all involving NMSU basketball players in recent months. Stay Classy NMSU
  6. The Big Games of opening week start Saturday morning. vs UConn, at 9:30AM, and vs Georgia Tech, 5:00PM Second game against Georgia Tech is Sunday at 1:00PM. The Yellow Jackets have 22 players returning from their 2022 Regional qualifying team and are receiving Top 25 votes. North Texas split its lone two battles with Georgia Tech at a neutral site in 2016. It would be very impressive to to win the Buzz Classic on their home field this year. https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/b83b897e-65af-4296-a6cf-cea83946bb12

  7. I'm not sure what value a renamed Big West has to offer either of these schools. In a related 'add insult to injury' just to pour a little salt in the wound, the Big12 will not only be inviting the 4 Corners schools, but they will be inviting Gonzaga as well. It's just that every strategy to save what was the Pac12 is vanishing.
  8. You guys are all assuming that SMU will be unable to renig on their commitment to join the imploding Pac 12. Are any of you Seinfeld fans? Remember when George told off everybody at his office because he has going elsewhere? "You're all losers, and I have better places to go!" and "You're only here because they knew they couldn't keep Me!" Then he came crawling back into the office with his tail between his legs trying to pretend that nothing had ever happened. That's their plan. Well, they sure wanted to play hardball with the AAC entrance and exit fees when other people's money was being spent. Now, it's their turn to live by the guidelines they set. In reality, they'll be back without penalty because most other colleges abide by a code of honor. Until that moment though, they will spend every second trying every sneaky little trick to get any central time schools to join their new SDSU, WSU, OSU, and Boise conference. They just can't say "Wow, that sure didn't work out" and come back.
  9. SMU has already accepted the PAC12 invitation. Done deal, same for SDSU. Washington State and Oregon State are the only current PAC12 schools willing to sign the GOR. There are no exit fees from the Pac12 if 5 or more current schools leave the conference. Well, something's happening. First shoe about to fall And the second shoe is unlaced and dangling
  10. Not necessarily. The imminent departure of the "4 Corners Schools" to the Big12 and Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and Cal aligning with the Big 10, will provide opportunities for many western colleges. Washington State and Oregon State can reunite with former Pac members Idaho and Montana, along with new additions SDSU and SMU to form a large 20 team Mountain and Pacific based conference. Schools like NMSU have been awaiting this type of opportunity for decades. It's finally here. The new 20 team Pac could consist of the twelve teams currently in the MWC, WSU and OSU from the Pac 12, Idaho, NAU, and Montana from the Big Sky, SMU from the AAC, and UTEP and NMSU from CUSA. The new Pac would then have the largest, or at least one of the largest, schools in every state of the Pacific and Mountain time zones, and SMU too. Pacific & Mountain, and SMU too map And this map may not even be 100% accurate. Andy Patton of the PAC 12 Show is now predicting that UT-Arlington may wind up being a travel partner for SMU: UT-Arlington added to re-cobbled Pac12 remnants conference? .
  11. And Then Jalie Decided To Use The Disgusting Trash Bag Costumes. The Rest Is Predictable History. UAB WBB Gets Rare Win With 61-52 Trouncing Of North Texas Despite the win, the Blazers remain alone in last place in CUSA The Blazer defense held UNT to 12 points under their season average This was the first time this season UAB has held an opponent under 30% shooting This is the first season sweep over UNT since 2018 The North Texas Women went in with a 3 game winning streak and had won 5 out of their last 7 Again, "Wear The Trashbags And Play Like Trash" jumped up and bit North Texas
  12. There's no guarantee that SMU will want to stay in the MWC. The AAC will surely have already expanded, but CUSA would probably love to have a presence in the metroplex again, and SHSU will need a travel partner.
  13. Does anyone expect that USC and UCLA will not be bringing any of their western rivals to the Big11? With USC and UCLA aboard, the Big10 network partners will need several more western schools to fill their own "fourth window" scheduling. They're securing a lucrative late night demographic that rival SEC just can't match. If Washington, Oregon, Stanford and Cal bolt, does anyone not think that the immediate response by the '4 Corners' group will be to jump to the Big12? The Big12 ESPN and Fox media deal will financially dwarf anything that can be cobbled out with backfill from the MWC schools and have far better exposure. The Big12 already has 4 schools located in Texas, would any member vote for more? Pac-12 in danger of eventual collapse Pac-12 expansion with San Diego State, SMU may be necessary Watch ALL THREE Nobody is stalling for a reason, especially like waiting on BIG10 leadership. As for these SMU fans, they've never been blindsided by the Big Eight, the Airport Six, Catholic Eight..... It's all going to work out just fine for them. They won't get fooled again. .
  14. If, as predicted by many, the 8 schools leave for Big10 & Big12, the 2 Pac orphans would lose their NCAA tourney auto-bid. There's really no way around that. To circumvent that, they'd have to, with SMU, join the MWC. They can then call that cobbled conference the Pac12 but it would be that in name only.
  15. Here he's playing for the Finland U16 team last year against some of the better young talent in Europe. #20
  16. Can these walkons be given scholarships immediately to replace a scholarship player that quits or transfers out, or is there a required period of time that must elapse?
  17. Fixed that for you. If the Pac12 goes to less than 6 permanent member (together for minimum 3 years) NCAA statutes say that schools like Arizona and UCLA would get to keep their own earned tourney money. Under what basis could the NCAA keep them from having it?
  18. Not entirely accurate. The Pac12 will be losing the NCAA Tourney credits, and that's inevitable. A conference must maintain at least six schools together for a tree year period to retain earned tourney revenue and an auto-bid to the NCAA tournament. Anything less than six and the revenue is rerouted to the schools that originally earned it. The result would be that WSU, OSU, SMU, and SDSU would actually have to join the MWC and then rename that as the Pac12. That way they could keep the Mountain West auto-bid. It takes 3 years to re-earn an auto-bid. An exception was made when the MWC split from the WAC, several lower conferences complained, and the NCAA stated it would never happen again. This is good news for dregs like SJSU that would've certainly been left behind if it was just a cherry picking process.
  19. Peruna Salt's father: "I know you want a P5 Sweetheart, but the Pac12 is about to crash and burn like the Hindenburg." I WANT A P5 DADDY, AND
  20. I wouldn't touch the MWC with a 39-and-a-half foot pole. USC and UCLA are already leaving, and the Pac12 is about to be decimated by two separate groups of four leaving to join the BIG10 and BIG12 respectively. Bank on it, it will happen. Only Oregon St and Washington St will be left. SDSU is already set to join the Pac12, and Fresno, UNLV, Reno, and Boise are slated as the first set of replacements. Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado St, and New Mexico would be the next four. SJSU, Utah St, and Hawaii will be unwanted leftovers, and there's absolutely no way we would want any alliance with them.
  21. The Pac12 media deal wil be dead. That's when Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah, the "four corners schools" will jump to the Big12 according to McMurphy. Essentially, the end result will be that Oregon State, Washington State, and SMU will have joined the Mountain West Conference. It may still call itself the Pac12 but all ten of it's premeir members will have already departed.
  22. One win for SMU is that they will be able to rekindle their Transformer Bowl with SJSU.
  23. I think that's pretty reasonable for essentially a custom jacket in our colors with stitched lettering.
  24. No offense, but you're on here bragging about potentially boarding a plane where eight of the other ten passengers have already strapped on their parachutes and are prying open the door. Washington, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona State will all be leaving by the time SMU would get in. It's going to happen, and you'll soon be playing in the Big West OK, maybe the old western WAC. (Boise St, Fresno St, UNLV, Nevada, SDSU, SJSU, and Utah St are all former Big West schools and heir apparents to the PAC) Trust me, you have my blessings. SMU moves to what was the PAC 12
  25. Damn, SMU2006 was right about McMurphy. Changes coming for PAC 12
