THis article makes it sound like a done deal. Does anyone have any details. Moot?

There were also North Texas shirts with the new logos given to every incoming freshman. The student side may look extra green for the games this season.

I can't see this game being played. At this time, there have to be better uses for all that manpower than having it sit idle in a football stadium. Hotel rooms are also a limited commodity, and who is going to feel comfortable checking in for a football game knowing that you are displacing a family who's home has been destroyed that week. Where is the team going to stay? Both New Orleans airports are under water. Baton Rouge Airport is where all the relief efforts are being funnelled through. Do we really want to hamper relief efforts because of a football game?

There may be a few snakes and alligators, but I doubt they will actually be a major problem. Smaller organisms will be a hige issue. There are thousands of acres of free standing water virtually devoid of fish. In about a week, with all the free floating sewage and debris, New Orleans is going to become the the world's largest mosquito breeding farm. The heat and the mosquitos could make the clean-up unbearable, and West Nile, Malaria and other illnesses may soon follow.

These are two extra tickets that I have. They are together in the North Texas section. $34 each, sold only as a pair.

CUSA did an excellent job getting some visibilty for it's programs. Those opening games against Big Ten, Pac Ten, and SEC foes will have lots of people watching. The ESPN-2 kickoff times should have been switched to put Oregon on during west coast prime time, but other than that, outstanding.

Katrina batters roof of Superdome Monday, August 29, 2005; Posted: 12:34 p.m. EDT (16:34 GMT) Thousands of people try to find a place to rest at the Louisiana Superdome on Sunday night. Katrina bears down on Mississippi NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- The Louisiana Superdome, where about 10,000 people have taken refuge from Hurricane Katrina, reportedly began leaking Monday as winds damaged the roof, letting daylight and rainwater in the darkened arena. "I can see daylight straight up from inside the Superdome," said Ed Reams of WDSU-TV in New Orleans, reporting from inside the Superdome. "This is only going to get bigger," Reams said. "We have another two hours before the worst of the storm gets to us." (Watch Ed Reams' report from the Superdome) But Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco insisted the structure "is not in any dangerous situation," according to The Associated Press. Katrina made landfall Monday between Grand Isle, south of New Orleans, and the mouth of the Mississippi River with 140-mph winds at about 7 a.m. ET. The worst of the storm hit the Crescent City less than three hours later. Inside the home of the New Orleans Saints, the National Guard moved people to the other side of the dome, while others were relocated beneath concrete-reinforced seats on the terrace level. Reams reported people were not panicked. "I would describe it as concern for their neighbors," he said. "They've been here all night. This is where they've got to be whether the roof comes off or not." He said the problem started with a leak and grew larger until sounds of the roof banging could be heard. Authorities cannot fix the problem in the middle of the storm, said Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana, but the command center is on stand-by with resources. "It's going to be very terrifying for a lot of people, but the command center is fully aware of what is going on," Landrieu said.

Dr. Kendrick said that groups of volunteer students would be heading from North Texas towards New Orleans on Monday to help in emergency assistance.

Unfortunately, this could be a test of engineering theories. When the Superdome was constructed 30 years ago, it was designed to survive up to 175 MPH winds. This storm is currently sustaining winds at 175 MPH, and the wind speed has been gaining intensity. Katrina almost looks like one of those doomsday models that weather experts have always said could happen. Let's pray for the best but prepare for the worst. Our neighbors in Louisiana may need our help very soon. ******************************************************************** from weather.com: Hurricane Katrina 4th Strongest Atlantic Hurricane 3:17 p.m. ET 8/28/2005 Hurricane Katrina is an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Maximum sustained winds are at 175 mph. Katrina continues not only grow stronger, but it continues to grow larger. Hurricane-force winds extend 90 miles from the center on the eastern side of Katrina, 75 miles to the northwest and 50 miles to the southwest. Sustained tropical storm force winds are not far from the Gulf Coast and should move in later this afternoon. Katrina has turned and is moving northwest at 13 mph with a turn to the north expected tonight. Everyone along the northern Gulf of Mexico should be completing preparations for a major hurricane and take heed of evacutation orders. Hurricane warnings are up from Morgan City, La., to the Florida-Alabama border. This includes the city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch have been issued from the Alabama-Florida border eastward to Destin, Florida and from west of Morgan City to Intracoastal City, Louisiana. A storm surge of 20 to 25 feet or more is possible along and to the east of Katrina's landfall point Monday. On top of the water rise, pounding waves of 20 to 40 feet will produce catastrophic damage at coastal locations. Effects from Katrina will not be confined to coastal areas. Once Hurricane Katrina makes landfall, it will progress inland Monday into Tuesday with a trail of flooding rains and damaging winds across Mississippi and Alabama and then into Tennessee. Torrential, flooding rainfall is possible with the remnants of Katrina well inland, possibly into the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and the Northeast later this week.

Eulesseagle, I agree with you 100% on this subject.

Although I don't agree that TCUs basketball attendance is really that much larger than ours (in actual BIS), they do have the advantage of a better schedule. In the 2001 season listed above, what was their conference slate? If it was loaded with Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Houston, DePaul, Marquette and SMU, then I think they have a pretty reasonable chance to sell quite a few season tickets. Any one of those would have been a "marquee" home game for North Texas.

Mean Green Holds Final Scrimmage On New Turf
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, I'm really shocked that we're wearing red jerseys this season. Seeing that Cobbs is now returning kickoffs, I now miss Kevin Moore more than I thought I would. Somebody please go down to Houston and drag him off his mother's sofa. The stadium is named Eagle Stadium. They only started referring to it as Fouts Field in the early 1970s. Even in the 1980s, much of the university literature still referred to it as Eagle Stadium. Maybe some of our more senior board members can elaborate as to when/if there was ever an official name change, and if it was for the entire complex, the track facilities, or just the football playing surface. -
(article is from this past spring) Student Focus - by Ashley Herrin of The Panther's Paw Sibling rivalry takes on a whole new meaning with sophomore DeMikel Shankle and his sister freshman Ashley Harris. The two have grown up together, shared many of the same friends, and have had their fights and arguments like most siblings. But if one of them is in trouble, the other is always there to help. They also share the same athletic talents. While Ashley is on the basketball team and DeMikel plays football and powerlifts, they share a common interest in track. Besides competing in the same events, they also have the same goal in mind while racing past their opponents. "I plan on making it to regionals and placing in the top two so I can go to state," Ashley said. "It would be awesome if I could make it to state as a freshman." Ashley and DeMikel both run the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter relay, as well as competing in long jump. "DeMikel and Ashley fight and act like typical brothers and sisters," Coach Tammy Bailey said. "But when they are competing they are each other's biggest fans." Although they do not compete against one another at meets, there is always a feeling of rivalry between the two. Each one feels that they should do as well or better than the other does. "There is a lot of competition between me and DeMikel," Ashley said. "If he gets first place in a race, I feel like I should too." The two are off to a great start this season and have already competed in six meets. At the last meet DeMikel placed second in the 100-meter dash and long jump and first in the 200-meter dash. Ashley placed first in the 100-meter dash, fifth in the 200-meter dash and her team earned third place in the 400-meter relay. Their latest competition was district, April 13-14. "I am doing pretty good so far," DeMikel said. "I am going to regionals in the long jump and will know about running finals tonight." DeMikel and Ashley both started running track when they were in seventh grade and have continued throughout junior high and into high school. They plan on competing in the sport in college as well. "I want to get a track scholarship but I'm not sure to where yet," DeMikel said. "I want to go to a school where I can get a lot of playing time in football too." Both he and his sister love the feeling that comes from winning a race and know the benefits from track are worth the effort. "I love the feeling of beating my opponents," Ashley said. "But most of the time I am just trying to reach the finish line as fast as I can so I can breathe again."

Should NT Copy TCU as We Prepare 4 LSU?
ADLER replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe we could just politely ask the LSU fans to be quiet when North Texas has the ball. That way we will not have to alter our practice methods. -
Korey Washington has been wearing the #10 jersey. At least that's what he had on this past Saturday for the scrimmage.

Tulsa U Already Sold 25K Tickets vs Big 10 Minn.
ADLER replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Are they selling tickets to people that want to be at the game, or are they giving away tickets to people that don't really care about the game. One of those is a solid strategy, and I bet Tulsa is doing it right. Are we. Oh well, bring on the high school band nights, exploited orphans nights, and disinterested kids with pulse nights. -
How are we doing in season ticket sales as compared to other division 1 schools with a similar size enrollment, and how about donation levels? Bingo. Please don't get me wrong, I have nothing against giving away end zone tickets to children's groups, bands, space aliens, or whatever else. I consider those seats to be an unsellable commodity anyway, and we may as well have children running around down there. Where I see a problem is that this promotion appears to be the basis for the plan to raise attendance. We need to be PROMOTING TO ALUMNI. The product is good, and there are a whole lot of alumni out there. Is there enough being done to bring them to the product? I guess we will only know through monitoring ticket sales and donation levels.

Wichita State is currently going through spin control explaining how they lost Wooden. Apparently, they were convinced he would be going there, but this summer the star player stopped returning calls from Wichita State coaches and had his Arizona State transcripts sent to a different college. 4500 to 7000 parents are going to show up and spend their money to park, buy tickets, and buy concessions because their kid was given a free end zone bleacher seat ticket to some college game that they have absolutely no emotional connection to...... NOT GONNA HAPPEN. The majority of promotions MUST be geared towards people that will want to buy tickets in the future.
-
I have an idea, but it may be too radical for consideration. Why don't we gear promotions towards people that may actually buy tickets. This promo is all cute and everything, but these low hanging fruit promotions, (kindergartners, orphans, band days, cub scouts, prison inmates, political detainees, etc) do NOTHING to help build the fan base. At best, it only gives the illusion that fans are in the stands. We have got to start targeting those people that have the potential interest to buy tickets. Until then, we're just fooling ourselves.

Are they considering unlocking the attic and letting you out for a little while?
