You should probably wait until after the LSU game.

Unfortunately, this may become an ugly situation for North Texas. What's going right?: Gameday, tailgating, and everything else off the field. What's going wrong?: Looks may be deceiving, but the football team looks to be having a very disappointing start to this season. Best solution: Promote the hell out of gameday activities. Promote tailgating and the social aspects surrounding the games. Make it so nobody wants to miss "the party" at Fouts every Saturday. Not only will a considerable amount of those fans still attend the game, but they will form a habit which will keep them coming back to games in future seasons. Most likely solution: Attendance will lag after these blowout losses. The university will then turn their attention towards harrassing the tailgaters to FORCE them to be inside Fouts by kickoff. (idiots will bombard us with exagerated tales of litter, drinking, and dubious criminal activities). The gameday atmosphere will soon be killed, and we will again suffer from that same "I'm not really much of a North Texas football fan, why go to games?" syndrome that haunted us for previous decades. Advice from Adler: Don't 'F' with the things that are going right.

We could not beat Sam Houston State.

Coach Dickey will be at Hooters on Monday at 6:30 for his radio show. Rick V will also be there. Be there, bring your questions, and bring your duck if you want. -

Is Awasom the all time Mean Green sack leader?
ADLER replied to BigFatJohn's topic in Mean Green Football
I think Cedric Hardeman still holds the all-time sack record for the San Francisco 49ers. It's pretty impressive since they've had several dominant players, like Charles Haley, since the days when 'Ol Ced terrorized opposing quarterbacks. -
True, it does seem odd that their still calling it by it's former owner's name. Mean Green Academic Center

The more I learn about Louisiana-Monroe, the more I respect the opinions of the Louisiana Tech fans.

Thanks to all of you that helped with the brisket preparations. I have to admit I was a little nervous about some of the Samuri Delicatessen displays. Note to self: Stay away from SoundMan when he's weilding knives.

The bell and the tug are just too cool not to be utilized. It should ring for the start of the Mean Green March directly preceding the firing of the cannon. It should also ring 30 minutes before kickoff as a reminder to wrap up tailgating and get into the stadium.

We're unable to set up because of the time restrictions, but there are some other groups which will be. I believe that Wells Fargo, Point Bank, and the Denton Rotary Club all plan on throwing Tuesday night tailgate parties. I don't know what they're serving, and how open they will be to the public. Maybe someone from those groups can elaborate on their Troy game plans.

There's no telling exactly what the weather will be like, who would have thought we'd be seeing triple digit temperatures in late September? I will get the "average" temps and the sunset time and we'll plan accordingly. That said, I somehow doubt it will be very cold the first week of November.

Thank you for your insight. I agree 100%

Ding! Ding! Ding! Folks, We Have A Winner! That is EXACTLY the reason we practically destroy ourselves each season putting together these huge Greenbacker tailgate parties.

Does anybody have any ideas for improving tailgating? Here's a few ideas I'm working on, and some of the people that are helping us. We definitely need more than 400 pounds of ice when the weather is in the mid-90s. Much of it melted and drained from the pond before the party even started. Chuck Vinson from the Office of Development is working on getting us chairs and tables for the 11/5/05 game against Louisiana-Lafayette. We will again be getting peanuts from Texas Roadhouse for the Louisiana-Lafayette game. Paul Batchelder, our Associate Athletic Director is working with Rec-Sports to have the tailgating lighting remain on after the game. The lights needed to be off this week because of the fireworks but will be very handy for post game parties in the near future.

Show up and ask Coach Dickey. You may not get to ask your question on air, but Coach Dickey always makes himself available to answer any questions from the fans in attendance. I'm not saying that you'll like his answers, but he will not dodge the questions.

If we're willing to concede that we're not going to be passing except in rare spots, then I think we should give the freshman from Burleson a chance. He has somewhat of an arm, but he also has the speed to turn the corner on those option plays.

To quote Corporal Hudson "I don't know if you're up on current events man.....but we just got our a$$es kicked!" Tulsa was plenty deep enough to beat us by over 50 in our own house. I'm not prepared to say anything that isn't complimentary of their team and it's performance. Our problems are our own fault. Our coaching staff knew last Fall that Byerly was a severe grade risk. Nothing was done in recruiting to address what would probably become an immediate need. We are now paying the price, and two freshmen quarterbacks are being tossed to the wolves.

We had dozens of Tulsa fans come to the Greenbackers Tailgate Party and every one of them were extremely friendly. Catbird and a couple of his buddies even came and thanked us personally for including the Canes fans in our tailgate. In spite of Saturday's final score, I would love to see this game become an annual match-up.

I would like to have them, but before you give them away, check with the Athletic Department's Ticket Office. I believe there is a program where you can exchange tickets for a game that you are unable to attend for tickets to another home game.

The GREENBACKERS Tailgate Party was a huge success. SoundMan and GreenDozer smoked over 500 pounds of Brisket. We served 1100 plates of barbeque and over 2000 bottled drinks. We were able to serve hundreds of our fans, the Green Brigade, many of the spirit groups, families of the football players, and were even able to extend our hospitality to many of our guests from Tulsa. First, Thank you to Eric (aka SoundMan ). Without you and all of the effort that you put into it, this party would not have been possible. Thank you to the following people made financial contributions toward the Tulsa game Greengackers Tailgate Party. 1) $100 Greenbat 2) $100 Mr H 3) $100 Adler 4) $100 EagleMBA 5) $100 meangreanmick 6) $100 Brad & Vicki Olson 7) $100 Med Pilot 8) $100 ParksAndRecRick 9) $50 Chad Rose's parents 10) $50 Daniel Meager's parents 11) $100 unt_eagles_rule 12) $100 GoMeanGreen.com 13) $100 Jim & Diane Grandey 14) $107.45 SilverEagle 15) $25 MeanEd 16) $20 BabyArm Thank you to all the people that assisted in setting up and taking down the party, thank you to everyone that brought additional drinks for the pond, and thank you to the individuals that helped so much with the food preperation (chopping brisket). We came in very close to budget, and all additional procedes will be applied to the upcoming tailgate parties. The next GREENBACKERS Tailgate Party will be for the Louisiana-Lafayette football game on Saturday, November 5th. We are planning on serving Ribs at that party and will release additional details as they become available.

You might check with Ramon Flanigan and see where he got his. I believe he may have been sleeping in one of those during last night's game.

It's the Cuero Gobblers. They had the top running back in the nation about a dozen years ago, a kid named Robert Strait who later played for Baylor. I feel flattered if they changed their nickname to Mean Green.

Please bring your own folding chairs out to the tailgate area because the university doesn't provide seating except for in the corporate tents and for the student organizations. Please bring a twelve-pack or two of Coca-Cola products to contribute to the ice pond (the Greenbackers community drink pond). Please bring your own ice chests for beer. We have had issues in the past with high school age kids trying to get beer from the pond, so we can no longer stock it there. Looking forward to a great party and an outstanding game. Thank you to all of you for helping. Adler

It's true that Shreveport has casinos, but Lafayette is far better as a tourist destination. The Acadiana region has Plantation Tours at Shadows on the Teche , Swamp Tours, Salt Mine Tours and Tabasco Plant Tours at Avery Island, FAR FAR Superior Restaurants in Lafayette and Beaux Bridge, and you can even charter fishing boats out of Morgan City (someone caught a 1300 pound Marlin down there last year). My advice, address your gambling fix the weekend of the La Tech game

As Sound_Man stated, TAILGATING STARTS TONIGHT. I'm buying the beer for everyone who shows up.
