The whole team played hard and was able to hold their own against one of the most talented teams in the nation yesterday. LSU had every possible advantage, yet the Mean Green still played their best game of the season. The Mean Green were able to orchestrate 4 drives deep into LSU territory even though they only accumulated 3 points. Likewise LSU was held to 28 points until late in the 3rd quarter. After the game the team held their heads high and departed the field as dignified men. The vast majority even went out of their way to thank the fans and families that came down to support them. They may have been outscored, but they never lost their dignity. I'm very proud of them.

The LSU game was in no way indicative of our fan support. North Texas sold hundreds of tickets to the game that went unused. The game was originally scheduled for a three day weekend to open the season. The game was indefinitely postponed due to Hurricane Katrina. The Saints then scheduled an October 30 game at Tiger Stadium to play the Miami Dolphins. A Baton Rouge area that was already short on guest lodging was then entirely sold out. By the time the North Texas - LSU game reschedule for October 29 was announced, there was no lodging available anywhere in South Central Louisiana. The LSU fans sitting in front of us came in from San Antonio, and they were unable to get a room in Lafayette, Lake Charles, or Beaumont, and were having to go all the way back to Houston for lodging. For us, there were rooms available in Shreveport, but it seemed just as practical to continue to Dallas. A lot of North Texas fans, even though they had already purchased $36 tickets, balked at the prospect of driving a same day round trip to Baton Rouge and back.

Vito may have been with Dickey for a few minutes, but Bret spent the majority of his time interviewing the players. There were several reporters from what I presume were Tigervision, LSU Sports, Louisiana stations, and SEC market newspapers that were conducting the interviews with Coach Dickey.
-
You guys know I wouldn't pull any punches if that was the case, but it simply wasn't. Coach Dickey was detained by reporters doing postgame interviews for at least a half hour down on the field after the game. If the MGRN didn't have a microphone down there, then that's the network's fault.

Bell also has a big 6'10" freshman teammate that may develope into a solid division 1 player. Luiz Moreira 6´10˝ Freshman —Post Brasilia, Brazil Coach’s comments: Played for a city team in Brazil and was discovered while playing in pickup games in New York. Runs well for a big man and will work on upper body strength while adding depth down low for the Ravens.

I'm going. I have always, and will always support this team 100% even when up against astronomical odds in extremely hostile environments. The decision to go is much more out of respect for this program than any entertainment value that could posibly come from this contest. I will not be alone in this endeavor. There will be many other faithful supporters that have gone for exactly the same reasons. They aren't on the payroll, and they're not there to cheer for their child. They'll be there for the same convictions , to support this team even when it isn't easy or convenient. We will be there at the end still cheering for this team no matter the final score. Sure it would be easier to hang our heads, turn our backs, and exit the stadium before games end to beat the crowds out to the parling lots, but what's easiest is not always the right thing to do. Supporting this team even through adversity this may not be our responsibility, but we have chosen to make it our duty. These fans have certainly earned my respect, and I hope that those that they came to support share my sentiments.

Mike Price, shown here while at Washington State, leads his team's postgame school song at every game, home and away. He does the same thing at UTEP. Price at UTEP

Here's an old post that had several of the links listed. I hope this helps.

It would sure be nice to have some kind of activities for these kids to participate in before the game. Something similar to what the kids whose parents paid for membership in the Jr Mean Green Club have would certainly be nice.

Do the Longhorns ever just walk out on their fans after a game? How about the Mustangs, Frogs, Sooners, or Baylor Bears? What would be said if it was done at A&M? "Ahh, screw the fans and the Alma Mater, we got other stuff to do" It's not that they don't care, it's that they want to make sure everyone knows that they don't care. It's just like when they put on headphones before the Mean Green March preceding home games. They are trying to show the North Texas fans how disinterested they are in their support. That statement has "I don't give a s#/t" written all over it.

True. Neither the players nor the fans are actually obligated to do anything which acknowledges the existance of the other. As much as I hate to admit it, the players are entirely entitled to ignore the existance of their supporters. And if, as you say, that they were in an extreme rush to wallow in their sorrows, then I can believe that even if I'm not ready to accept it as an excuse.

"We don't care about those that support us" is the resounding message. The couple hundred North Texas fans that remained at the end of the La Tech game were there strictly out of loyalty to this team. They had stayed and faithfully stood and applauded the Mean Green at game's conclussion even after witnessing another incredibly uninspiring performance (if you could consider earning 3 first downs in the first half against a below average team uninspiring). Despite the utter and complete lack of anything to cheer about, these fans that had travelled hundreds of miles to supprt this team stayed. They remained because of loyalty, there truly was no entertainment value whatsoever. At the conclusion of the game, led by a senior kicker that was clearly exhausted after stepping on the field once for an extra point attempt, the North Texas football team again turned their backs on their fans and sauntered into the locker room. They didn't even pause one second to display appreciation to their supporters. The message was perfectly clear, this team refuses to acknowledge even the most emphatic of their supporters. They don't appreciate your support.

This would probably take more preperation time than what we have for this season. Instead of renting tents and heaters, what about the university using the old Men's Gym (Snake Pit) to host pregame parties. Having that building together with an additional fenced outside tailgate area, a whole lot of people could be included in pregame festivities for very little cost to the department. The MGC corporate tents could be set up for campus organizations to give them each a home in the tailgate area. People, especially students, hate to miss an 'event', and they will show, especially if it involves beer. Close the tailgate area 20 minutes before tipoff, and the crowd will go directly into the Super Pit.

What the hell is an alumus? Are they trying to spell alumnus on this university document? Damn, if they can't spell words like that correctly, can't they just have Dr. Johnson just plagiarize the questionnaire off someone else's website? Proof Read Your Documents! PEOPLE DO NOTICE.

I hope to see consistant improvement in our out of conference games. Maybe we'll even get 5 first downs in the first half (Who knows, it could happen. Other teams do it all the time.) La Tech 54 North Texas 14 If not, then it could get ugly.
-
Since it seems likely that the soccer team will be in the NCAA tourney, will the new soccer facility at Eagle Point be ready by then? If the new facility is not completed, would North Texas have to play the tournament game on the road?
-
Surprise.....Surprise.....Surprise..... The team decided to choose the latter, and cowered off to the locker room without ever acknowledging the couple hundred fans that made that effort to support them. Shame on them.

I think this thread clearly illustrates the lack of effort in identifying and hiring capable people that were interested in running the athletic department during the Hurley administration. What will happen in the years after Pohl leaves?

Wrong you are. WORST EVER How could anyone ever forget the greatness that was Richard McDuffie? We canned Corky, then passed over a very interested Joe Green because of this outstandingly committed individual. McDuffie took the job, but never really even moved into his office. There was just too much golf and social life around D/FW for him to be expected to actually work. After several months, people finally wised up to the fact that the guy was getting paid but wasn't doing shinola. He soon announced that he was resigning to take a position as the director of the American Paint Horse Association. He still lists North Texas on his web page even though he never did a damn thing there. McDuffie at Eastern Illinois

And then, after the game, win or lose, get your tails over in front of that handful of Mean Green fans that spent their own time and money to make a 2866 mile round trip to be there to support you and let them know you appreciate them. Or you can walk off down the tunnel without ever acknowledging those supporters. Your choice.
-
The team should ALWAYS appreciate it's fans regardless of what happens on the field....Sometimes it is mildly inconvenient, but you still show gratitude.
-
It's very simple. Win or Lose, and With or Without your coach. You stay out on the field in front of the band. You raise your right hand, either displaying the school hand sign or holding your helmet aloft. You don't make a single move towards the locker room until the last note has been completed. Your friends, family, and fans deserve better.
-
If you think that I am suggesting that the fans should change then you are mistaken. I am clearly stating that loyalty has to go both ways, and yet the entire team continues to turn their backs on their most ardent supporters.
-
At the conclusion of this past Tuesday's game, the whole football team, led by Coach Dickey, turned their backs on their supporters and walked off the field and up the tunnel while the Brigade was playing the Alma Mater. There was once again absolutely no recognition of all the fans that have come out and faithfully supported the team. Sure, you can say that the coach shows absolute disregard for the supporters of this program, but it's painfully obvious that the players do as well as they turn their backs on their friends and families.

Missouri was #9 last year when they lost at Troy, and Vanderbilt was ranked this year when Middle Tennessee beat them.
