I want the team to earn rings. I want the program to be able to say that we were 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Sun Belt Champions entering next season. There was a 5 or 6 way tie for first place in the final year of the defunct Southwest Conference. Texas Tech may have gotten the Cotton Bowl invite, but everyone else still got rings and bragging rights.
-
The Sun Belt Conference Championship certainly is within our grasp. North Texas may have been eliminated from the New Orleans Bowl, but if we win the next three games, we are guaranteed to be conference co-champions.

I too am disappointed that THE bonfire has been cancelled. I am not surprised though, we all had an idea that THE bonfire could be endangered this year by a county wide burn ban. Well, there are still other options. There is a home basketball game the night before the Homecoming football game. Why not have the Talons use the finances intended for THE bonfire on renting Sky-Trackers for outside the Super Pit, and get the whole Green Brigade to play at the basketball game. (Isn't there a mens-womens double header that night?) 4 Sky Tracker trailers with 1 placed at each corner of The Pit would make the campus, as well as the entire city of Denton know that something was going on. Put a Budweiser/Coors/Miller $1 Beer Hospitality Zone right outside The Pit and the event will start getting talked about. Promote the party atmosphere and the event will be a success.

Like I said, there is realistically no chance that the contract would/could/should be extended past this current season. Essentially then, he's history. What does North Texas benefit by publicizing that someone made a rash decision which destroyed his career? I don't think anyone is silly enough to start a wrongful termination suit after that many witnesses and coworkers saw the actions and heard the alleged threat, but why even chance it. Even if the suit is comically outlandish, it's still expensive to defend and would leave a negative mark on all parties involved. There is no whitewash, I just think that cooler heads should prevail. This is a classic situation where it's just best for both parties to shake hands, thank each other for the opportunities and the services rendered, and go off in separate directions.

I don't want to see anyone's career adversely affected by something which could have been a misunderstanding. Sure, we had a coach make a horrific blunder and rush into the stands to confront a fan. Whether he heard the fan correctly the first time we don't know, there was a lot of ruckus and booing happening because of the nearby CSC fiasco. Should the coach be forgiven and given a second chance? My opinion is no. Should the coach be terminated immediately? My opinion to that is also no. The coach in question works in a pressure filled position and simply vented at someone in a threatening manner. I'm sure that he knows he was wrong and regrets this whole mess more than anybody, and has no prior history of any altercations during his previous 7 years here. He is a marketable commodity who as offensive coordinator has directed the last 2 national rushing champions, has won the last four conference championships, and if UNT wins the next three games can finish no worse than co-champions this year. He really has a bright future without having this mess on his record. I think he deserves the right to 'resign to explore other opportunities' after the conclusion of this season. Until then, I think he should be isolated as best possible from any other potential situations. Nobody was hurt. Let's let this situation pass and everyone get to go on with their separate lives.

That's quite a line-up, especially considering that the fifth starter, a young hotshot named Michael Jordan, was not even considered good enough to be included in the photo.

I'm glad that all of you enjoyed it. I would love to take the credit for this year's Greenbackers tailgating, but that honor is all Sound Man's. I've collected the money and done a little bit of the cooking, but Sound Man (Eric) has done the overwhelming amount of work to make these events happen. Adler

I hope we fire CSC immediately. Their employees and their absurd policies detract from the game being a fan friendly experience. I don't know, maybe we discovered that the athletic department had too much extra cash so we contracted with this army of clowns to come in and screw things up. Here's another observation of CSC STUPIDITY from last night. When fans were walking up to the stadium, the Miller Girls were handing out the Thunder Stix. There was a group of kids in line in front of me all wearing their little league football jerseys. Although the line wasn't particularly long, it was moving quite slowly because of the usual CSC incompetance with using the ticket scanners. The kids all inflated their Stix while waiting in the line, and then were told that they could not be admitted into the stadium with the Stix because they were already inflated. When their coach asked for clarification, he was told that inflated Thunder Stix create a litter problem inside the stadium and that any that were inflated outside the stadium could not be admitted. He asked if the kids could just deflate the ones they had and take them in, and was told 'No'. The kids all felt dejected as they were forced to throw away their new toys for no reason whatsoever.

Congrats to the Cajuns', Coach Bustle and

If the Cajuns win out they'll be the Sun Belt representative in the New Orleans Bowl which is being played in their home stadium this year. I think they will do an outstanding job of representing the conference and will have a huge crowd. Geaux Cajuns! Best of luck the rest of this season, and congratulations on your victory. -
I saw him at the end of the game when he came over to the rail to talk to some of his family members. He was already in street clothes and was walking with a slight limp. The kid is incredibly tough and probably would have played if asked, but he needs to get that hamstring healed. GO! GO! JAMARIO!

I'm proud of the team. They held their heads high and showed their loyalty even though they had just been set back by a disappointing defeat on the field. It was a class act on their part and I appreciate them doing it.

This is a rebuilding year for us, and with some of the lopsided losses we've incurred and 6 losses total, it would be hard to discribe this years team as bowl-worthy. That being said, I would love to see this team win out and tie for the Sun Belt Conference championship. Championship rings for the team would be outstanding even if it does not merit a bowl trip at the end of the season. Sun Belt Champions 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, .....KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE!

Well, onlly a short while until gametime! Please remember to bring your folding chairs, and bring Cokes, Ruffles, and ice if you can. Looking forward to a fantastic GAMEDAY! Adler

It's a very simple solution. Turn on the lights that need to be left on, and keep somewhat of a police presence around everyone's equiptment. I would love for everyone to be able to leave their chairs in the tailgate area during the game and then get to reconvene for a few beers after the game.
-
We should be in a lot better position on ice. Our last game we were battling 104 degree temperatures and had to be set up by 9:00 AM. The ice was long gone by gametime. This time we'll have more ice, and shorter exposure to milder weather. As far as dealing with the theft during the game issues. Maybe the athletic department can figure a way to switch the light switch to 'ON' to light the tailgate fields. They were working on it for the last two games, and with an extra month and a half to prepare, I have faith they'll find a way to flip that switch.

They have the same promo going Hat World at Grapevine Mills Mall. Spend $20 on North Texas merchandise, and get a free ticket to the UL-Monroe game.

The Greenbackers Tailgate Party will start at 2:30 on Saturday preceding the football game against the University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. We will be serving hamburgers and cheeseburgers for this week's game. Sound Man has had a very large charcoal pit made so we can cook several hundred burgers in a very short time period. Iced down bottled water and soft drinks will also be available in 'the pool'. The award winning group Brave Combo will be providing the musical entertainment for the tailgate area. The weather is forecasted to be perfect, unseasonably warm for November; 80's during tailgating, and 70's during the game. As always, our Greenbacker's Tailgate Parties are open to all fans, with a special invitation extended to our message board community and to the families of our football players. The Mean Green March will be at 4:00. Tailgating ends 30 minutes before kickoff. This gives you plenty of time to get your chairs an ice chests back to your car before kickoff. Please bring your own folding chairs, enough beer to share, and ice chests for your beer. (we get in trouble if there's beer available in the pool) If you are interested in contributing to the party effort, please bring Ruffles Potato Chips, canned Coca-Cola products and/or ice to contribute to 'the pool'. Looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday. Go Mean Green! Adler

Well, if you're going to get technical, if it was apples it would have been an orchard. Since the last game was played in Louisiana, there is a enhanced probability that it would have been in a citris producing area, possibly grapefruit or tangerines, which would in fact make it a grove. The only variable I see is that it could have been a pecan orchard since those are quite common in North Texas as well as Louisiana. I guess we'll have to wait for more details.

Hawaii fans to say aloha to tailgating alcohol?
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, it's an idea, an incredibly misguided and stupid idea, but an idea none the less. Actually, I think it's a good idea for the high school games, but they should draw the line there. -
No, just stating that he has an athletic 6'10" fresman teammate that may be a potential recruit for the following season. No inside information.
-
True, but he certainly came through for us when we needed him to. He terminated the contract of someone that was taking the athletic program nowhere on at an accellerated pace. Pohl brought in someone that instilled ambitious plans that few of us would have thought possible a few years ago, and our AD is acheiving those goals. There have been more facility improvements in the last 5 years than in any other period of our school's history, and I will always be grateful to Dr. Pohl for getting it started.
-
And to think, all this bantering is happening because some anonymous person on a Ragin' Cajuns message board suggested that they may be at a disadvantage and that maybe they should look at the AD from North Texas. Before long, the rumor will be that WE ALL KNOW that Rick applied for the position because we saw something, somewhere, that if twisted and looked at from the right angle, might possibly suggest that there might have been the slightest inclination that there may have been the smallest amount of interest expressed. A year ago, NMSU contacted Dr Pohls office and asked for clearance to talk to our AD. NMSU got permission and RV reviewed the situation and declined the offer to be considered for the position. All the sudden word broke on this board that "Rick is chasing the NMSU job". There are worse things than having a good AD that everyone else has an interest in. We could be stuck with one of our previous ADs instead, or even worse. Thanks again Dr. Pohl for getting that fixed. Hopefully Rick will be the AD at a CUSA school in the next several years, and hopefully he will never have to move to do it.
-
Rick has done an outstanding job at North Texas and his name is going to pop up on many schools lists in their AD searches. Why not? Attendance, donations, compliance, and facility improvements have all boomed under his guidance. If the students has not voted incorrectly on the fee adjustment a couple years ago, we would be in even much better shape than we currently are.

DD Haters: What if NT wins out and heads to NO?
ADLER replied to Got5onIt's topic in Mean Green Football
If the team again heads to New Orleans, I'll be more disappointed in whoever makes their travel arrangements than the head coach. As far as the intent of your question, I believe that there is always a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration. Why do we succeed, why do we fail, where is the program heading, and what available options are there that would be better? Could instability and directional change hurt the program? Making a change because some people are disappointed in the coach doesn't make sense, but neither does not making a change if there is opportunity to significantly upgrade the program. -
I think so. Even though the outcome was really never in doubt, the team played well against insurmountable odds. It was very similar to last season's game against Colorado. We got soundly outscored, but there was enough fortitude displayed to show that this team is going to be all right. Speaking of fortitude, freshman center Chad Rose played a hell of a game, especially considering that he was playing with an elbow that had been dislocated in practice this week. The team doctors reset the elbow, but told Chad sit out this game if the pain was unbearable. We needed him, and he came through for us and not only played the whole game, but together with his OL teammates didn't allow a sack to a vaunted LSU defense.
