From official Sun Belt site MEN- Average attendance: 2,760 5,489 Western Kentucky 4,116 Middle Tennessee 3,780 UL-Lafayette 3,197 UALR 3.049 Arkansas State 2,929 South Alabama 2,580 Denver 1,685 North Texas 1,619 Troy 966 FIU 672 New Orleans This doesn't really look too good. Has anyone heard about any planned promotions for the remainder of this season?

I know one area where something HAS to get fixed. We employed a pressure defense several times. UNO always cracked it and would suddenly have 3 guys advancing on one defender. It always resulted in a basket, and often a basket and a foul. Take away half those easy points we gave them, and we would be discussing last night's victory today.

OK, it's time for The Dad Joke Of The Day If Puppeteers play with their puppets, then what do Privateers play with?

Courtesy: Rick Yeatts from the Mean Green Athletic Site Mean Green Basketball Teams Look For Second Conference Win On Saturday Night Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 01/06/2006 DENTON (1/6/06) - The Mean Green men's basketball team has won four games in a row and six of its last seven as it is set to host Sun Belt Conference West Division foe New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 7, in its second of four consecutive home games to open league play. Every North Texas game can be heard live on KWRD (100.7 FM) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Tip-off is set for 7 pm. North Texas opened Sun Belt Conference play with a victory for the second consecutive year and fourth time under head coach Johnny Jones, but has never started with a 2-0 record in the league. The Mean Green has played six of its last seven games at the Super Pit, where it is 7-1 this season, and remains at home for its next three games against two teams from the Sun Belt’s West Division and one from the East. Saturday’s game will be the 14th meeting ever between North Texas and New Orleans, which played each other for the first time during the 1975-76 season. North Texas swept the season series from the Privateers last year as Sun Belt opponents and has now won the last three regular-season games against the Privateers. The 3rd Annual Soles vs. Souls charity basketball game pitting North Texas area high school basketball coaches against ministers is set for 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 7th. Tickets for the fundraising basketball game are $8 if purchased in advance and can be bought at www.cadc.org and at participating area DATCU branches. Proceeds benefit the Childrens Advocacy Center of Denton County and tickets will be $10 at gate D of the Super Pit after 4:30 pm. The ticket also gets you into the North Texas game that evening as well. NBA great Spud Webb and North Texas Athletic Director Rick Villarreal will be the honorary coaches of the Souls. George Dunham of the Mean Green Radio Network, KTCK Sportsradio 1310 "The Ticket" and the Dallas Cowboys is also a guest coach of the Soles. printable NOTES FOR TONIGHT'S GAME AGAINST NEW ORLEANS

What about having $1.00 Hot Dogs, and giving every student that enters a coupon for a FREE Hot Dog. Do this at every game. Hot Dogs cost considerably less than a dollar, have very little labor involved, and any profit possibly lost through the promotion would be regained through soft drink sales.

We never had a Branding Campaign. We designed new logos that made all the available logos obsolete, but there hasn't been any push to get the new logos out to the public.

First, I hate the 'Pack the Pit' name for the promotion, it flat out sucks. It's like trying to get people to your restaurant by saying 'Pack the Restaurant'. We need to promote the things that people will actually come out to see. We have a good product. We need to sell people on the product which is a good basketball team. I have not contacted anyone in the Athletic Department, but if anybody would be interested in conveying any of these ideas, please feel free to do so. I think it's a win-win for everyone involved. It may even be a good time to reveal our potential football schedule for next season and start plugging for additional season ticket sales. We need to rebuild some of the momentum that was lost this past football season, and this could be a start.

On Saturday, January 28, Sun Belt Western Division rival South Alabama comes to Denton. South Alabama is a favorite to possibly win the division. It is also the last weekend before National Signing Day when the North Texas football team will be hosting football recruits at the game. MAKE A STATEMENT! SELL OUT THE SUPER PIT! Get people there and make them want to keep coming to more games in the future. As a token of appreciation, mail reserved North Texas Basketball Tickets for that game to every person that has purchased season tickets for North Texas football. Give them the best seats possible in hopes that they will desire to buy basketball season tickets in future seasons. Include in the mailout an invitation for each of those people to participate in the Green Room activities, or better yet, move the 'Green Room' to a big tent outside at concourse level where even more people can get involved. We have got to let people know what they are missing. Promote the game to student organizations; dorms, Greek organizations etc. Get in contact with Fraternity/Sorority officers NOW to make sure that this gets added to their activities schedules before something else gets scheduled that night. Include Spirit Trophys and/or cash prizes for spirit displayed and shooting contests. Complete the cash contests at the end of the game to insure that the groups remain until game's end. If possible, bring the entire Green Brigade to the game, not just the Pep Band. The Pit rocks like thunder when the entire Brigade, including the Drum Line is playing in there. Bring in for recognition all the athletes that had exceptional grades in the Fall semester. It looks good to recruits when they see other athletes are succeeding, and it shows the fans that our athletes are working hard in the classroom. Make sure there is a full contingent of Cheerleaders and Songleaders for the game and that they will be supplied with 10X as many give-away tee shirts than at usual games. Put searchlights outside the Pit. It helps the game to look like a major event. Open and stock all concession stands so it will not take an excessive amount of time to get refreshments. If there was a video to display on the big screens showing the recent avancements including the new womens facilities, new soccer field, new tennis complex, completed athletic center, rebuilt softball facility and other advancements, it may get more of the students/fans on board with the program. An update to all the fans by the A.D., possibly between warm-ups and gametime, which would inform of any recent developments and any future plans would go a long way in making more people feel informed and involved. The opportunity to excel is there. Why not do it? It could go a long way towards bolstering the spirits of the North Texas faithful, help with recruiting, and would expose many of our traditionally football only fans to our developing basketball program.

One other note. Is there anything worse than KNTU commercials? They last fricking forever, and the play the most horrible music imaginable.

Georgia Tech losing PG recruit to baseball's Yankees June 9, 2005 By Jeff Goodman Special to CBS SportsLine.com In a bit of irony, George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees are taking away one of Georgia Tech's top recruits. Yellow Jackets coach Paul Hewitt, a lifelong, diehard Yankees fan who grew up in New York, will lose incoming freshman Austin Jackson to baseball, according to several sources close to the situation. Jackson, a 6-foot-1 point guard/center fielder from Denton (Texas) Ryan High, was drafted by the Yankees in the eighth round with the 259th overall pick -- but was offered a deal in the $1 million range, which is money that late first and second-round picks generally command. It was believed that Jackson would have a chance to play minor-league baseball and college basketball, but according to sources, the Yankees, who have a depleted farm system, didn't give Jackson the option of playing both sports. Jackson is a career .410 hitter who was at one time ranked as the top player his age by Baseball America. If Jackson wasn't considering college baseball, he likely would have been taken in the top three rounds. With starting point guard Jarrett Jack's status in limbo, Jackson might have had a chance to start for the Yellow Jackets this season. Jack put his name in for the NBA Draft, but has not signed with an agent and is undecided on his future plans. If Jack doesn't return to school for his senior season, expect sophomore Zam Frederick to get a shot at the starting spot.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Maurice Clarett was wanted by police on Sunday after he was accused of using a gun to rob two people in an alley behind a bar. The troubled former Ohio State running back fled when the bar owner or manager, who knew Clarett and the victims, came into the alley and identified him shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. According to police, the 22-year-old Clarett left the scene in a white sport utility vehicle with two other men and took only a cell phone from his alleged victims, who weren't injured. He was wanted on two counts of suspicion of aggravated robbery.

New Years Resolutions, for the Mean Green Athletic Department Find some way, any way, to convince the fans that things are getting better. The fan base watched things spin out of control toward the end of this past football season. We witnessed members of the football coaching staff and the athletic department staff seriously lose their composure dealing with the fan discontent. We saw both the men's and women's basketball programs crumble and disappear in the much anticipated Sun Belt Conference Tournament hosted at North Texas. Expectations were so low that nobody seemed to even care. We saw the football coaches wrap the teams future around a quarterback that they knew was a serious grade risk a year ago and make no provisions for his predictable failure. Subsequently, we saw ill-prepared injury prone freshmen quarterbacks being fed to the wolves and getting destroyed for the entire season. We watched as fireworks illuminated the post game celebrations of those visiting teams after they had humiliated our team at home. I still can't believ we shot off firework after our worst home loss in history. We watched as the football team unbelievably said "screw the fans, screw this school" as they refused to remain on the field for the 1 minute and 48 seconds that it takes to play the Alma Mater. "They're told from birth to walk away with their heads down in humiliation after a defeat" and "Why do they owe anything to those people that support them" were the excuses offered. Thankfully, by the end of the season, only a few players still Fostered that belief. The athletic department has taken to a foxhole mentality, and communications with the fan base have reached their lowest point since the current regime arrived. New Years Resolutions, for the Mean Green Athletic Department? Give everyone reason to believe things are getting better.

One other note from last night's game from the SFA page: The Lumberjacks were 24-of-61 (39 percent) from the floor and neutralized North Texas on the glass with 37 rebounds, but SFA couldn't slow down the UNT offense, which shot 34-of-62 (55 percent) from the field, despite hitting only 1-of-14 three-point field-goal attempts. The Mean Green also gained a huge advantage in the low post, outscoring SFA, 54-32 in the paint. ********************************************************************* North Texas shot an amazing 33 of 48 (68%) from inside the 3 point arc. Wow!

Simpson or Shawnson Johnson? I am amazed how well Jeffrey Simpson has developed as a player since he came to North Texas. That we are even making this comparison is testimony to that. Although they're both incredibly strong, they are different types of players. Shawnson was a true center and played best with his back to the basket. Shawnson would muscle through people and force the ball into the basket. Simpson is an excellent power forward that because of his strenght is able to cover the center position. His game is playing in the paint and crashing to the basket whenever there is any kind of opening. Simpson is clearly the better shooter when outside of 5 feet, and the more reliable free throw shooter. Shawnson was a more dominant rebounder, he used the same wrist-tuck that Rodman used and got everything.

Is the Saturday, Feb 4 game against New Orleans scheduled to be played in Tyler Texas? Since there surely can't be too many UNO fans in Tyler, could this game be moved to the Super Pit? The game could be used as a fundriser for UNOs post-Katrina rebuilding efforts with all ticket procedes going to UNO.

Alarming stat of the night: 3-point goals–UNT 1-14 (Davis 1-6, Hines 0-2, Watson 0-2, Brown 0-1, Sturns 0-2, Edwards 0-1). That kind of accuracy could possibly jump up and nip this team in important games.

UNT tops SFA 11:56 PM CST on Friday, December 30, 2005 By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle DENTON - Jeffrey Simpson scored a season-high 21 points and moved into third place on the Mean Green's career blocked shots list in UNT's 81-75 victory over Stephen F. Please people, lets get the facts straight on this. Cash was certainly out of bounds when he got his hands on the ball, but he never caught it either. That ball went through his hands an bounced away on the turf in front of him.

I have always been an advocate of some kind of huge spirit group. I would love to see something that unites students from all the dorms, social organizations, and anyone interested into one united front. ( nothing against the Talons, but it's a tiny group that involves dues, fines, mandatory meetings, service projects, pledgeships, initiations, formals, etc... ) The new group could be for dedicated North Texas football fans, and involve only football games and maybe a few parties. Then again, maybe the best idea would be to totally restructure the Talons organization to function in the way listed above, and not as a spirit oriented fraternal organization.

No, I'll bet he's using his portable system while driving. Isn't it comforting to know that someones reading and typing on gmg.com while maneuvering a 2 ton 4X4 through traffic.
