I'm not certain, but I think he would be immediately eligible. He would possibly have to get clearance from the NCAA, but with OU's recently announced probation, I doubt that would be an issue. He should be able to sign with any school during the late signing period.

Jeremy Mayfield, rated one of the nation's top prep power forwards, was granted his release from the University of Oklahoma. Mayfield signed with OU in November, but asked for his release after Coach Kelvin Sampson went to Indiana. As a senior at Irving (Texas) MacArthur High School, the 6-foot-10, 234-pounder averaged 10 points and nine rebounds. He was recruited by North Texas and Nevada during his senior season ('04-'05) and signed an early letter of intent with Nevada. Mayfield didn't enroll at Nevada and attended Gulf Shores Prep School in Houston this past season. He was recruited by Oklahoma and signed with the Sooners during the early signing period. North Texas would be a great fit for Mayfield. He would bolster a "need" position on what is beginning to look like a very promising roster, and the proximity to his home is excellent. His friends and family from Irving would be able to make it to all of his home games.

"Plumm Tickled" to have "Band Day!"
ADLER replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
True, there are rules concerning hosting high school bands and their off campus activities. Wouldn't it just be easier to exploit orphans to bolster the attendance figures? Of course they would have to provide their own transportation and would be given horrible end zone seats to watch two teams that they've no interest in play football, but hey, we could give them each a hot dog and pretend it's an act of charity. While we're at it, are there any storm refugees or political refugees that could be coerced into existing inside the Fouts gates on game day? Political Assylum Rally Day at Fouts does kind of have a nice ring to it. What about Cub Scouts, underprivelaged youth groups, or the physically/mentally challenged, wouldn't they be easy targets for exploi... um, I mean promotions? Sure those promotions would be geared towards people that would almost certainly never become paying customers, but it beats the hell out of going after the university's 100,000 plus alumni in the D/FW market and their families. -
Or even better yet, build a stadium based on a functional design. If there could ever be a stadium design worse than Fouts, it would have to be the one displayed HERE

North Texas played Nevada on New Year's Day in the 1948 Salad Bowl. The Salad Bowl was Arizona's predecessor to today's Fiesta Bowl. There are probably very few of these programs still in existance. ps - if anybody has an extra copy of the 1946 Optimist Bowl program just sitting around, would you please send one to me

NT soccer loses to China in 1-0 snoozer
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Athletics
I am not really a soccer fan, but I do enjoy the games. I haven't been to the new soccer facility, but I have been to several of the games at the Peterbuilt fields. Many of the fans treated the games like a tailgate party by lining their folding chairs along the sideline and spreading their picnic stuff on a blanket or table behind their seats. There was an adjacent well lit field where all the kiddos would run around kicking soccer balls or throwing frisbees and other toys. The games were relatively exciting because, being right along the sidelines, you were so close to the action and could see the emotion in the players' faces. In addition, the Mean Green almost always won. If nothing else, it was a great time to have a cup of wine or beer and BS about Mean Green athletics with other fans. -

Are there foundation problems with Victory Hall? It appears to be leaning. Of course I am joking, but the new multi-million dollar library at UL-Monroe was built on an unstable foundation and really is slowly (and unevenly) sinking.

Designers selecting mascot for Dallas campus
ADLER replied to NTEagle08's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't think of any two schools from the same system that share the same market. There will already be massive confusion, and it will only intensify as competition for name recognition (and financial support) intensifies. Haven't we learned a few lessons already through sharing the immediate market with Texas Womens University? The only possible way to allieviate the problem is by aligning the two campuses with the same colors and mascot. Does it harm anything in Louisiana that LSU-Shreveport and LSU-Alexandria are also purple and gold Tigers and identify themselves as afiliated with the flagship campus? -
Boy, ya' gotta love that type of optimism. "We should win the conference title and go back to the NCAA tournament" How often does a North Texas coach confidently make a statement like that.

FIU Football Stadium Construction To Begin
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
LSU didn't use federal money for their stadium. They used federal money to build an oval shaped dormitory that just happened to have seating capacity for 60,000 on the roof. -
Well, it's 5 days after I openly solicited for any contradictions to what I, and several other people present thought they heard, and there's still not a single dissenting reply. I see this as an indicator that my recolection may be fairly accurate. Likewise, it has been several months since I was openly lambasted by many of the player's parents, and a couple of gomeangreen board moderators, for stating that the football team appeared to have, at best, total indifference towards the people that support them. Would it be totally unrealistic to speculate that there may be a direct correlation between those types of statements and the disdain shown by the players towards the fans?

Ouch, that one would hurt.

Scott, I think he was referring to Men's basketball. On the Women's side, I didn't even know MTSU played Houston. What was the score of that game?
-
I think both should be kept for another year, but with a condition like the Kansas State coach had this season. KSU required that he make the NCAA tournament or his position would be terminated. He was fired immediately after his last game. North Texas should also require either an NCAA berth or at least one WIN in the NIT next season. Anything less, and you could say the coaches have had more than their share of opportunities, and that it's time to look elsewhere.
-
Wow, only $42.99 How can they ever keep them in stock. And to think that Steve & Barry's would try to gouge you for $7.98 if you were to buy something comparable for almost any other Texas college. And people ask why North Texas students wear merchandise from other schools.
-
I think that there is a clear difference of perspective between the fans that have been supporting the program (through attendance and donations) for years, decades for many and those parents who've had children awarded scholarships by the current coach. I'm not saying either is right or wrong, but there is a clear dividing line on whether the language or intent was appropriate. Maybe this is what the Division From Within speech was about. Although I'm still curious as to it's intent, maybe it was a preemptive strike against the 'other side', whoever those people may be.
-
I had several people call me with similar comments and concerns. Like I've said, I really don't think it was intended to offend anyone, mostly because what he said was (I hope) not really what he meant to imply.

It seems a few fans have interesting perspectives on what all was said. .

Women's basketball: UNT women snubbed by WNIT 07:54 AM CST on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 Denton Record-Chronicle By Brett Vito / Staff Writer North Texas’ bubble officially burst on Monday night. The Mean Green knew heading into the weekend that they were out of the picture when it came to an NCAA Tournament bid, but held out hope that the WNIT might come calling. Those hopes ended when the WNIT selection committee released its field of 40 teams. The announcement of the WNIT bracket officially brought to an end a solid season for UNT, which won the Sun Belt Conference West Division title and finished with a 19-9 record. The Mean Green fell just two wins short of the school record for victories in a season. “I am more disappointed than I thought I would be,” UNT coach Tina Slinker said. “We had a good year and were probably one win away from getting in. It helped that we beat Middle Tennessee, Stephen F. Austin and SMU. That put us close to getting in.” UNT’s division title and its overall record were its two greatest assets heading into the selection process. What ended up hurting the Mean Green was an early exit from the Sun Belt tournament, a low RPI rating and a soft schedule. UNT came into the Sun Belt tournament as the top seed from the West Division, but ended up falling to Arkansas State in the quarterfinals. The Mean Green also finished 102 in the NCAA’s RPI ratings and played a schedule ranked No. 181 by CollegeRPI.com. Those flaws dropped the Mean Green down in the pecking order for WNIT bids. What hurt UNT even more was the Sun Belt sending just one team to the NCAA Tournament. MTSU received the league’s only NCAA bid after beating Western Kentucky in the conference tournament finals. The Lady Toppers ended up in the WNIT despite finishing with a 24-6 record and an RPI of 15. BRETT VITO can be reached at 940-566-6870. In the last 5 years we have seen more new facilities added than in the preceding 50 combined. Basketball is mildly respectable, nothing to brag about, but far better than it was throughout the Trilli period. Football, though certainly not outstanding in all aspects, has given us an unprecedented 4 straight bowl games during those years. Tailgating is also a lot more fun than in earlier seasons, and I feel that many fans are drawn to the games primarily because of the party atmosphere. Not everything is well with Mean Green athletics, and much is just uncertain, but I also don't see the need for the gloom that has permeated the program throughout the '05-'06 year. We really just need some good news.
