Another name rumored to be interested for coach
ADLER replied to cjones's topic in Mean Green Football
NO! Center Ryan Tucker, guard J.P. McFarland, linebacker Jay Davern and tackle Billy Thompson were charged with felony assault for the May 11 beating of a TCU student outside a Fort Worth bar. Sullivan pissed off a lot of people by keeping those players on the team while letting "justice run it's course". They practically beat the kid to death outside Duke's Hi Hat Lounge on Berry Street, and he knew they wouldn't be sentenced until after the season. His last team was crappy(1 & 10), so crappy that the only team they would manage to beat that season was an SMU team that had you-know-who as offensive coordinator. The next season, Dennis Francione was able to take the same team to the Sun Bowl and beat USC. -
C'mon guys, the majority of the kids were wearing black jerseys because they were going along with their team leaders. Those people are leaders because they are personally close to their coach. (Remember, to most of these kids Dickey is that nice man who came into mommy's livingroom and said he would pay for their college when nobody else would) I think it's almost fitting that Dickey lost to a bad team during his "childish antics" game. The black shirt thing really doesn't bother me at all. Now, the young men dressed in those uniforms that sprinted to exit before the Brigade played the alma mater is another matter. Freshman Marquis Sykes, Freshman Tyler Bailey, Freshman Bryant Seidle, and Sophmore Casey Fitzgerald, well, they will have some explaining to do if they pull that crap in front of a college coach that actually gives a damn.

I was only pointing out how tight the timeframe is, even with the early termination. Hiring a staff isn't instantanious either. Isn't National Signing Day the first week of February? That's not a lot of time to work with, especially considering there are a couple of weeks of 'dead time' while no contact is allowed with recruits.

Maybe Dickey was punishing the team (and himself) for poor performance. ____________________________________________________________________ Hill's decal ploy works to perfection By Matt James / The Fresno Bee 11/16/06 04:53:20 On Saturday, if you were one of those who found something else to do, Fresno State played its first football game in 30 years without mascot decals on their helmets. Coach Pat Hill, after conferring with his players during the week, had the Bulldogs stickers pulled off the helmets. The idea was that the Bulldogs hadn't earned the right to wear the decals. They hadn't been playing the kind of football Fresno State had become accustomed to playing, so they were being shamed.

OK people I'll state this again. BY STATE LAW, THE JOB OPENING HAS TO BE POSTED FOR 30 DAYS BEFORE SOMEONE CAN BE HIRED. There has to be time for a new coach to assemble a staff and start recruiting before the recruiting dead period starts. If we waited until to fire someone, and the replacement couldn't be hired until January, we would have potentially crippled recruiting for this year and had to settle for a class of substandard players that would be around for the next five years. It's not lollipops and rainbows, but it has to be done that way.

Jamario wasn't familiar with the offense during his freshman year. When a hole wasn't opem he'd usually rely on instinct and instantly bounce the play outside. His only problem now is that he follows the gameplan much better. Think how productive Woody was when he was improvising and we were hearing that he wasn't following the gameplan. What happened to his productivity as he conformed to the system? Let's face facts, our opponents know our system as well as we do. It's when a variable is introduced that they get burned. Jamario will do fine in 2007.

Or, after Wednesday's game, how 'bout The House of Guano!

TAKE THE MEDICAL REDSHIRT YEAR! Do not burn a year of eligibility to play a few games at the end of the season while rehabilitating.

I predict that Coach Dickey will eventually
ADLER replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Joe got the "Mean Joe Greene" name only after he was a top pick of the Steelers. A Pittsburg sportswriter was confused and thought the nickname Mean Green was a refernece to Joe Greene. The headline read Steelers Draft "Mean Joe" Greene. The rest is history. -

HELLO REDSHIRT YEAR!

Wait a second. Those jackels were not the problem, people are always going to anxiously speculate when there is a coaching vacancy, and many are going to second guess any decision that they think anybody may be contemplating. There is a lot of anxiety and excitement with every bit of information that's revealed. Sorry, but this sounds more like somebody was rushed and didn't word a post the way he/she really would have wanted, and the result came accross as sounding mean spirited. Certainly nobody is owed anything throughout this process, but it would be unfortunate to let a simple faux pas stand in the way of distribution of relevant information.

Just out of curiosity, did you actually read the post that you're refuting?
-
I'm concerned his antics would be a lightning rod for negative publicity. I'm a true-blue Oiler fan, but even I foresee that Jerry Glanville would be more concerned with his carnival sideshow than he would be with building the program.
-
Look at this 2 ways. I think one of those two guys will be a very successful college coach within the next couple of years. I don't think it'll be Glanville.
-
I don't think it's possible to answer this poll correctly without first knowing if Rick is friends with Todd Dodge.

I predict that Coach Dickey will eventually
ADLER replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
No, Dickey didn't have enough control of the helmet logos....think about, four conference championships and bowl games with the cursive North Texas logo, ...and... five forgetable losing seasons when using the other logos. Coincidence, I think not. -
I would have told you nicely, but noooooooooooo............... Maybe I am making it all up. Let me know in two years. Have fun waiting.

I predict it'll be an uncharacteristically high scoring affair, but Schnell is going to get his B'Owls kicked by the Mean Green.
-
He did play a couple minutes in two or three games this past February doing mop-up play. Why, I don't know. If they had held him out of those games he would have three years of eligibility remaining. ,

Plain an simple, the offense works. Sure Tech doesn't beat Texas, Oklahoma, and TAMU consistently, but Tech has never been able to recruit on the same level as those programs. Idiots said years ago that the Run & Shoot was just a gimmick because the top ranked Miami Hurricanes handled the Houston Cougars in a nationally televised game. What they didn't take into account was the incredible talent that Miami had amassed could outperform even the best of offensive schemes. Houston, although good, never recruited at the level of Miami. A high percentage of those Miami players wound up in the NFL. Like Houston before it, Tech has benefitted from a highly productive pass intensive offense. The strategy has lifted Tech to a level that never would have been atainable with a conventional offense.

2008-2009 school year No, I can't tell you sources, but FFR can verify that my source is credible.

Mattress Mac's Houston Chronicle Ad against Texans
ADLER replied to FireFightnJoey's topic in Mean Green Football
Mac was right about Vince Young. Vince may not necessarily have been the best pro prospect, but he would have been the best selection for the Texans. Not since Heisman winner Earl Campbell was signed by the Oilers has a Houston pro football team had a serious following outside the gulf region. Vince would have solidified a statewide following, and they could've traded Carr for draft picks and solidified the lines. -
I support Mr. McIngvale 100% in his decision to name the practice facility after Coach Dickey, and I also salute his loyalty to his friend. Let's face facts, for his donation he can name the facility after anyone that he wants. If the facility isn't going to be named for the donor, then I would much rather have it named after a Hall Of Fame coach than after some other person not even connected to the university. Actually, even without the donation, I would still like to see something dedicated to each of our HOF coaches. Someday people will be talking about the Dickey years in the same way people now talk about the Fry years: deny it, but you all know it's true. I hope we have something besides printed material to remember them. There was nothing on campus dedicated to Hayden Fry when I was at North Texas during the 1980s, and where are the monuments to the golf championships? We have a proud heritage, we just need need a few reminders of it.
