  1. Dawna Prevette Hired as Women's Tennis Coach Prevette comes to Happy Valley after stints at Baylor and North Texas Aug. 15, 2007 UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Dawna Prevette (pronounced PRAH-vet), who helped guide the Baylor women's tennis team to the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles in 2007, has been named the ninth head coach of the Penn State women's tennis program, Associate Athletics Director Sue Delaney-Scheetz announced today. "We are delighted that Dawna will be our new head coach for women's tennis," Scheetz said. "Her breadth of experience, coaching philosophy, energy and enthusiasm made her the ideal choice for this position. We are very excited to have Dawna join the Penn State family." "It is an honor to be named as the head women's tennis coach at Penn State," Prevette said. "It has been an aspiration of mine to coach at such a special university. I am very excited to help the women's tennis program add to the great athletic tradition at Penn State." Prevette recently completed her first season as an assistant coach at Baylor University where she helped the Bears to the Big 12 regular-season and tournament championships, as well as berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. The Bears, who peaked at No. 6 in the national rankings, finished the season 13th in the ITA poll. Prevette coached two All-America singles players, including Zuzana Zemenova, who was a semifinalist in the 2007 NCAA Singles Championship. At Baylor, Prevette was heavily involved in player development, recruiting, travel, scheduling, fundraising and budgeting. Prior to joining the staff at Baylor, Prevette was the head coach of the women's tennis program at her alma mater North Texas for six seasons, accumulating the second-most wins by any women's tennis coach in North Texas history. The Mean Green posted the most wins in 17 years with 15 victories in the 2004 campaign. Prevette also helped her alma mater reach the highest regional ranking (13th) in school history that same season. During her tenure with the Mean Green, Prevette coached three players to Sun Belt Player of the Week honors and led North Texas to ITA All-Academic Team awards in 2003 and 2004. In addition to her coaching duties at Baylor and North Texas, Prevette served on the Southwest Regional ITA committee (2002-07) and currently serves on the NCAA Division I Regional Advisory Committee. She also organized a USTA community service clinic in 2006 and was the tournament director for the Texas Regional High School Tournament from 2001-06. Prevette, who earned her bachelor's degree in biology from North Texas in 2000, was a four-year letterwinner for the Mean Green and served as team captain in 1998 and 1999. Prevette was an all-conference performer in doubles in 1996 and was an active member of the North Texas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her four years as a member of the women's tennis squad. In her first two seasons at North Texas, Prevette tallied a 12-15 record and then moved into the No. 1 singles spot for her junior and senior years. Throughout her collegiate tennis career, she was the Big West Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and was named to the Raptor All-Eagle Academic Team. Prevette earned North Texas' Team Eagle award twice for best work ethic/team spirit. Prevette and her husband, Buck, were married in the summer of 2000.
  2. Hall-of-Famer "Mean Joe" Greene had a stellar playing career at North Texas before a 13-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  3. I was there last week and the only qote I heard from Coach Dodge was "Blessed are the cheese makers".
  4. Worse than that, it's a nonfunctional design that would thrust a program back into 1-AA. Thank goodness that design was scrapped.
  5. He's as tall as his dad so I can't say his height can possibly be a concern. Riley is an outstanding player and a natural leader; he's going to do very well at North Texas. Think about it this way: He's in high school this season and will probably redshirt in 2008. By the 2012 season I can almost guarantee that he is going to be one bad-ass quarterback that will be able to disect just about any defense.
  6. I watched the game....WKU played very well but Middle really missed Cradock tonight. I looket at the MT board; not much about the game but I did see this interesting thread about merchandising: Merchandiising thread on MTSU Boarg. The Middle fans are pushing to get their merchandise icluded in all the area department stores.
  7. That's because FAU intends to stay in Division 1. Why would anybody ever consider doing anything different?
  8. It's very similar to SMU's stadium design except the SMU stadium has the lower seating area recessed into the ground because of city code restrictions. The metal seating and brick facade are similar.
  9. That 'It's Time For Pony Thunder' canned noise should have drawn a sideline warning to the home team the first time it was played and an unsportsmanlike conduct flag every subsequent time. NCAA rules cleary state that canned noise must stop once the team breaks the huddle. There is no opportunity for canned noise to be played when players are approaching the line of scrimage in the no-huddle offense. Boise State tried the same thing with their third down cheers against Wyoming this past week and were warned to cease or they would be penalized every time. I am kind of surprised the CUSA refs weren't familiar with the rule.
  10. There should be a sporting method to this. Maybe if 10 people that have been members since 2003 and have accumulated 1000 posts each could "vote" somebody off the page. We could make a game of it. It would be much more fun than anonymously banning or suspending someone.
  11. Animal House??? Are you sure about that? I seem to remember a similar quote from Jaws, but it was "I can do anything; I'm the Chief of Police"
  12. I don't think you burn your redshirt by playing in the first two games. I think you can even play in the third game and maintain your eligibility to redshirt. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
  13. I disagree. 40,000 should be the starting point and not the goal. What Division 1 school has a stadium with less seating capacity than it's enrollment? Doesn't every successful program have a stadium that seats roughly twice as many as the school's enrollment? Why should North Texas be the exception? Plan for success, and then make it happen.

  16. I like the "a student referendum to increase athletic fees per semester from $120 max to $240 max". If North Texas were to do that we'd have a 16 Million budget before any tickets were sold, a single donation was accepted, or any games scheduled. No more need to schedule "money games" and we'd be in charge of our own destiny. Greatness could be achieved. FIU and FAU have enrollment figures similar to North Texas and have large student contribution rates like UTSA. Budgets like that made USF and UCF competitive within a few years of initiating football. USF has already been accepted by a BCS conference and UCF has built a beautiful new stadium. No longer are those universities thought of as small-time schools. There is real value in those investments in athletics. It's the window through which the rest of the world views the college. I hope Dr. B is aware of the steps that other schools are taking to become competitive. Hopefully she can help guide North Texas to do the same.
  17. Troy Phillips Ft. Worth Star-Telegram 12 September 2007 …UNT-SMU could resume Officials at UNT and SMU are comparing dates for potential games in a new UNT-SMU series. Saturday marked the end of a two-game nonconference series between the schools, but both sides are interested in a longer deal for five or more years. "If we did anything, it wouldn't be for a couple of years," UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said, adding that both schools' 2008 and 2009 schedules are full with contracts completed or pending. UNT plays at LSU the next two seasons and at Kansas State in 2008. Air Force plays at UNT in 2009. UNT has a home-and-home series with Rice in 2008 and 2010. One undisclosed opponent in 2008 and two in 2009 are expected to sign contracts soon, Villarreal said.
  18. Hat, sunglasses, muttonchops, and the conspicuously absent blue shirt..... but that didn't stop my kids from recognizing Anthony Field of the Wiggles.
  19. Mesa airlines flies round trip from Dallas (DFW) to Jonesboro for around $220. The flights are on little 20 seat Beechcraft turboprops and make one stop each way, but it beats the heck out of making that journey by car. Don't wait too long to book if interested, I believe there are only 2 flights per day on this route.
  20. Maybe this would be a good game for all the GoMeanGreen.Com fans to show our support and appreciation.
  21. A lot of fans will be in the Metroplex during the Thanksgiving holidays. Hopefully some will head to UTA for the game Wednesday evening.
  22. The Green Brigade was outstanding this week. The green polo shirts looked great. The Brigade played to the North Texas side instead of facing the empty home field side. The music selection was good and presentation was far superior to the tinny Fiddler on the Roof dribble provided by the Smoo Kazoo Crew. The weather was incredibly muggy; still 96 degrees and very humid at 11pm. I am happy that the director had the foresight to have the Brigade wear the shorts outfit.
  23. Yeah, it's a lot like honoring Enron executives for the outstanding job they did cooking the books before the big crash. Those asswipes were cheating and destroying the integrity of the game. Only SMU would ever honor such trash. Shame on them. Somewhere in the world A Kenneth Pye is spinning in his grave.
  24. This is comical. By 1982 Helms had lost all credibility, that is, if it ever had any to begin with, and the poll disolved after that season because of rabid disinterest. In the polls last eight years it was marred by confusion and had awarded 12 different national champions. It was nearly as highly regarded as the prestigious Three Drunks at a Bar poll. Face facts SMU, these ass clowns that you are honoring for their farcical National Championship are the same people that caused your program to go... BELLY UP
  25. .... and SMU has been using Grapevine's for years.
