  1. I apologize if I inspired this, what I should have stated was persons of a vertically challenged stature. Would that have been more correct?
  2. I have read about a very interesting defensive scheme that we may be able to use to correct these issues. The only problem is I don't think we have all the necessary personel this season. It defense involves using a very powerful linebacker that can hurl midgets at the opposing team's ball carriers.
  3. With the new offense at North Texas, a player with Brown's athletic ability could really make his mark on the football scene as a receiver. Nobody ever wants to make the switch to football from basketball, but the kid sounds like he could be outstanding with a redshirt year to learn the position. I have seen so many athletes toil their college careers as basketball reserves when they could have potentially been pro prospects in football.
  4. I say give the bastard the dry sponge treatment and then put the video on you-tube.
  5. I may have found a new philanthropy. Please elaborate on the rules of this fundraiser activity.
  6. Hmmm....using the lowest possible entrance requirements to get players eligible, and then still playing at least 40 inelegible ones; not good FIU, not good at all. If the Sun Belt needs to purge itself of FIU, FAU still has representation in the Miami market and Western Kentucky is already enlisted to take their place in football.
  7. OK, got one, anyone else?
  8. I was about to compliment you on your great mind.
  9. Vizza played incredibly well during the game. The first two interceptions were timing routs to the right sideline. The ball was already in the air and both receivers slipped while making their cut. This can hardly be blamed on the quarterback. The third interception was on fourth down in La La territory with less than a minute before halftime. Vizza didn't have an open receiver and floated the ball up for grabs around the 5 yard line instead of taking a sack hoping for a reception or an interception. La La got the pick, but lost about 30 yards by doing so; very smart play by Vizza.
  10. I'm planning on heading to the show this evening. If any of you established gmg posters (sorry newbies and flamers) have any questions that you'd like answered please send them to me via Private Message and I will submit the question to Coach Dodge during the show. I will need the questions before I leave the office at 5:00. Just provide your name and hometown.
  11. I always feel happy when something comically bad happens to Utah State, and I find comfort as if we somehow contributed by Dickey ending up there.
  12. hotwire.com is contracted to sell hotel reservations at a substantial discount to fill vacancies. hotwire is currently offering reservations at a Lafayette three star hotel for $42 per night this weekend. The website does not provide the name of the hotel until the reservation is booked. hotwire.com I booked reservations for Friday and Saturday nights and the total is $99.48 for both nights combined.($84.00 + $15.48 tax) The hotel is the Holiday Inn Lafayette - Central US-167 which is on I-49 in the vicinity of Prejeans restaurant. $42.00 is a substantial savings compared to the usual rates. 13. He's wrong. In the past decade schools like South Florida, and Central Florida have not only started programs, but have raised them to be competitive on a national scale. The simple fact is SIZE DOES MATTER. When a school such as North Texas finally decides to make a committment, it will succeed as well. UTSA has recently raised it's student athletic fee to the state maximum of $240 per student per semester. It seems like a lot, especially for a school that doesn't even offer the premier sport of football, but it's what UTEP students, administrators and regents have decided is necessary to help the university separate from the quagmire of 'smaller' schools that they have always been associated with. It's the type committment that South Florida had made, and one that Central Florida had made. If North Texas were to make a similar commitment the football and basketball programs would contend for postseason play every year, revenue through donations and ticket sales would skyrocket, and facilities would be comperable to many of the other large state schools.
  14. Dawna Prevette Hired as Women's Tennis Coach Prevette comes to Happy Valley after stints at Baylor and North Texas Aug. 15, 2007 UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Dawna Prevette (pronounced PRAH-vet), who helped guide the Baylor women's tennis team to the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles in 2007, has been named the ninth head coach of the Penn State women's tennis program, Associate Athletics Director Sue Delaney-Scheetz announced today. "We are delighted that Dawna will be our new head coach for women's tennis," Scheetz said. "Her breadth of experience, coaching philosophy, energy and enthusiasm made her the ideal choice for this position. We are very excited to have Dawna join the Penn State family." "It is an honor to be named as the head women's tennis coach at Penn State," Prevette said. "It has been an aspiration of mine to coach at such a special university. I am very excited to help the women's tennis program add to the great athletic tradition at Penn State." Prevette recently completed her first season as an assistant coach at Baylor University where she helped the Bears to the Big 12 regular-season and tournament championships, as well as berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen. The Bears, who peaked at No. 6 in the national rankings, finished the season 13th in the ITA poll. Prevette coached two All-America singles players, including Zuzana Zemenova, who was a semifinalist in the 2007 NCAA Singles Championship. At Baylor, Prevette was heavily involved in player development, recruiting, travel, scheduling, fundraising and budgeting. Prior to joining the staff at Baylor, Prevette was the head coach of the women's tennis program at her alma mater North Texas for six seasons, accumulating the second-most wins by any women's tennis coach in North Texas history. The Mean Green posted the most wins in 17 years with 15 victories in the 2004 campaign. Prevette also helped her alma mater reach the highest regional ranking (13th) in school history that same season. During her tenure with the Mean Green, Prevette coached three players to Sun Belt Player of the Week honors and led North Texas to ITA All-Academic Team awards in 2003 and 2004. In addition to her coaching duties at Baylor and North Texas, Prevette served on the Southwest Regional ITA committee (2002-07) and currently serves on the NCAA Division I Regional Advisory Committee. She also organized a USTA community service clinic in 2006 and was the tournament director for the Texas Regional High School Tournament from 2001-06. Prevette, who earned her bachelor's degree in biology from North Texas in 2000, was a four-year letterwinner for the Mean Green and served as team captain in 1998 and 1999. Prevette was an all-conference performer in doubles in 1996 and was an active member of the North Texas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her four years as a member of the women's tennis squad. In her first two seasons at North Texas, Prevette tallied a 12-15 record and then moved into the No. 1 singles spot for her junior and senior years. Throughout her collegiate tennis career, she was the Big West Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and was named to the Raptor All-Eagle Academic Team. Prevette earned North Texas' Team Eagle award twice for best work ethic/team spirit. Prevette and her husband, Buck, were married in the summer of 2000.
  15. Hall-of-Famer "Mean Joe" Greene had a stellar playing career at North Texas before a 13-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  16. I was there last week and the only qote I heard from Coach Dodge was "Blessed are the cheese makers".
  17. Worse than that, it's a nonfunctional design that would thrust a program back into 1-AA. Thank goodness that design was scrapped.
  18. He's as tall as his dad so I can't say his height can possibly be a concern. Riley is an outstanding player and a natural leader; he's going to do very well at North Texas. Think about it this way: He's in high school this season and will probably redshirt in 2008. By the 2012 season I can almost guarantee that he is going to be one bad-ass quarterback that will be able to disect just about any defense.
  19. I watched the game....WKU played very well but Middle really missed Cradock tonight. I looket at the MT board; not much about the game but I did see this interesting thread about merchandising: Merchandiising thread on MTSU Boarg. The Middle fans are pushing to get their merchandise icluded in all the area department stores.
  20. That's because FAU intends to stay in Division 1. Why would anybody ever consider doing anything different?
  21. It's very similar to SMU's stadium design except the SMU stadium has the lower seating area recessed into the ground because of city code restrictions. The metal seating and brick facade are similar.
  22. That 'It's Time For Pony Thunder' canned noise should have drawn a sideline warning to the home team the first time it was played and an unsportsmanlike conduct flag every subsequent time. NCAA rules cleary state that canned noise must stop once the team breaks the huddle. There is no opportunity for canned noise to be played when players are approaching the line of scrimage in the no-huddle offense. Boise State tried the same thing with their third down cheers against Wyoming this past week and were warned to cease or they would be penalized every time. I am kind of surprised the CUSA refs weren't familiar with the rule.
  23. There should be a sporting method to this. Maybe if 10 people that have been members since 2003 and have accumulated 1000 posts each could "vote" somebody off the page. We could make a game of it. It would be much more fun than anonymously banning or suspending someone.
  24. Animal House??? Are you sure about that? I seem to remember a similar quote from Jaws, but it was "I can do anything; I'm the Chief of Police"
