How can Petrino be considered any douchier than Todd Graham?

No, I figure that vacancy will happen because of health concerns. Have you seen that man? Have you witnessed his tantrums? ...tic..tic...tic....

I though June Jones was likely their target since the Paul Johnson rejection. Hopefully this will happen for SMU. Jones has an exciting product and has proven that he can build a winner where several predacessors have failed miserably. The deal may have already been done. SMU's next option had seemed to have been Francione; a coach that I really like, but one that A&M just fired for NCAA rules violations involving improper communications with overzealous boosters. The press would have a feeding frenzy if their anointed Death Penalty University partnered with a coach that just got fired under those circumstances. Coach Fran does deserve another chance, but he should wait a couple of years and do it in some place other than Texas. Kansas and Kansas State may both be looking for coaches within the next couple of years and attempts at rebuilding a down program may ruin his chances at landing either job.

Arkansas officials are looking into allegations that an agent helped star running back Darren McFadden purchase a Cadillac Escalade and then had the vehicle put in his mother's name. Arkansas compliance director Marvin Caston said he heard rumors late Thursday afternoon about the possible NCAA violation involving McFadden. But the agent at the center of the allegations, former Arkansas track and field star Mike Conley, strongly denied TV reports claiming he helped McFadden purchase the vehicle. "I got a call and was told that somebody is saying I walked into a dealership in Fayetteville with Darren and helped him purchase a car," Conley said Thursday night. "I haven't been in Fayetteville in a while, and I certainly haven't been in any car dealerships with Darren McFadden." – Springdale Morning News

Jerry World To Host Hogs And Ags For $5 Million Each
ADLER replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, man, you don't talk to Adler. You listen to him. The man's enlarged my mind. He's a poet-warrior in the classic sense. I mean sometimes he'll... uh... well, you'll say "hello" to him, right? And he'll just walk right by you. He won't even notice you. And suddenly he'll grab you, and he'll throw you in a corner, and he'll say, "do you know that 'if' is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you"... I mean I'm no, I can't... I'm a little man, I'm a little man, he's... he's a great man. I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across floors of silent seas... This paraphrases all that is written by the surprised individuals in this thread. -
I think Johnny placed him in a juco to get his academic progress in order. He may be back in Fall 2008.

Wasn't this a Helwig agreement that sadly has been inherited by the current leadership? Can the contract be cancelled wihout significant financial loss? Do any schools pursue merchandising independant of the collegiate marketing companies? If so, which ones, and how well are they doing?
-
The contrast was downright sad at the Oklahoma State basketball game. Almost every one of their fans were wearing nice collared orange OSU shirts, and many were even wearing OSU jackets. Very few North Texas fans were wearing UNT gear, and the overwhelming majority of those were cheap looking give-away tee shirts. Few people buy nice North Texas gear because it's not readily available at affordable prices. This year Voertman's only sold one green polo shirt with the North Texas logo. It was a 100% polyester dri-wick golf shirt made by Antigua in Indonesia. It was also over $50.00. They were nice enough, but certainly not the quality available for other schools at retail stores everywhere and the price was twice as high. Voertmans was aware that they wouldn't be able to sell many of them at that ridiculous price, so they only stocked 48 of the shirts to last the whole season. That is simply poor merchandising.
-
I respectfully disagree. Exlusivity contracts alter the laws of supply and demand that would exist in a free market. For some reason the University only contracts with establishments that price gouge customers on their North Texas apparel purchases. As fans there is NOTHING that we can do about the situationexcept lay back and enjoy it. Rising demand has in no way altered the pricing structure for those retailers. If anyone disagrees with me, please tell me the names of more than two retal stores that I could walk into today and buy name brand North Texas polo shirts. What is the stock position of the shirts at those two stores (quantity in variety of sizes) and what are their prices.
-
Well, I guess that's proof enough that North Texas football has been just as good as Southern Mississippi this decade, ya know, since we never met in the regular season and bowl games for some reason don't count. Do you have any other interesting theories to share? Are there any more of these interesting date restrictions that should apply? What about games played on holiday weekends? Do weather conditions also apply to your formulas? Weren't all the SBC victories this year against bowl teams from CUSA? Since Memphis played against multiple teams from both conferences, wouldn't that be the best measure for league comparisons?

I think that many fans from both sides are overlooking another important aspect that affects the scheduling; Jerry Jones. JJ has been busy courting several of the higher profile Big 12 teams and Arkansas to play annual neutral site games at his new stadium in Arlington. The metroplex colleges have hosted Texas Tech, OSU, A&M, Arkansas, and Oklahoma within the past decade; those games may soon become permanently unattainable. What would SMU's attendance average have been like this decade if Tech and OSU games weren't played? Won't it be more difficult to sell season tickets without those programs on the schedule? The same situations affect us too, and will continue even when we complete the new stadium. The metroplex schools may not particularly like each other, but they do need each other to be able to excel.

Congrats Dez Willingham, Tonight's Player Of The Game
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Really, what good would it do us to beat Centenary by 50? Tonights game gave the starters a chance to relax a little and also allowed the reserve players a chance to get some quality minutes. The schedule is about to become much tougher as Sun Belt play starts this week. -
The final score actually makes the game look closer than it really was. The Mean Green led by nearly 30 throughout most of the contest. DENTON (12/20/07) – Powered by a huge first half, the North Texas men’s basketball team blew past Centenary, 76-54, on Thursday night at the Super Pit. The Mean Green tied the third-best 10-game start in school history with an 8-2 record. NT improved to 6-0 at home and trails the series with the Gentleman, 11-10. Centenary falls to 7-5. For the second straight game, four Mean Green players scored in double figures. Dez Willingham led all scorers and tied a season high with 14 points. Keith Wooden and Collin Dennis posted double-figure numbers for the second consecutive game with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Tristan Thompson scored in double digits for the fourth time with 10 points. The Mean Green continued to have a hot hand shooting from the field. North Texas shot over 48 percent from the field for the third straight game. Against Centenary, NT was 27-for-56 for the game and shot 63.3 percent from the field in the first half. Willingham led the explosive North Texas offense from the start, scoring eight of NT’s first 14 points to put the Mean Green ahead, 14-4. The closest Centenary came to the North Texas lead was five points, 17-12, before the Mean Green went on a 24-6 run. Quincy Williams scored four unanswered points towards the end of the run with a dunk and then got around a Centenary defender on a breakaway for a layup. Willingham capped the run with his fourth three-pointer of the night to extend NT’s lead to 41-18 with 3:33 left in the first half. In the first half, Willingham was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 4-for-4 from three-point range. North Texas held Centenary to 24 points at the half, the fewest points allowed since the Cameron game. The Mean Green held Cameron to 21 points in the first period. NT also controlled the boards, 21-10. Williams led the Mean Green on the boards with nine rebounds. He contributed nine points on the offensive side. With its 41-30 advantage on the boards, North Texas has out-rebounded every opponent this year. The Centenary defense tightened up in the second half, holding the Mean Green to 29 points. The Gentleman outscored the Mean Green in the second half by one point, 30-29. North Texas opens conference play on the road with a match-up against Denver on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 5 pm. Well, I guess that makes SMU the Metroplex Champions in basketball.  SMU > TCU > UTA > UNT That is why I love these Metroplex rivalry games; each game resulted in an upset with the winning team jumping up and down in celebration. Not only should all these teams play each other every year, they should all play each other TWICE every year. The rivalry wouldn't only be big for the schools involved but would be great for college basketball in the D/FW region. It could instantly add a big time atmosphere to the usually mundane nonconference games. Let visiting students in free with student ID, have pep bands from both schools there, include the 'away' games as part of season ticket packages........The games would be a great recruiting tool and would be a magnet for local media. The would also help generate a stronger following at each school. The Tobacco Road rivalry was not created by those three schools not playing each other. Or, we can continue to play virtually unknown schools and watch the Big 12 get all the attention in our (all four) home market.

Possibly a required viewing? Organization of Defensive Coverages & Three Types of Coverages with Gary DeLoach, UCLA Assistant Football Coach / Safeties The UCLA run defense ranked 9th in the nation in 2006, finishing over 100 spots higher than the year before. Coach DeLoach presents an inside look at how that impressive change came about. A main principle to the UCLA defense is to secure the perimeter of the defense. By putting the Sam back in the force position on the tight end side is key to starting your defense. Safeties are lined up 10 yards deep and their technique is flat foot read. A main focus is reading the backs to determine the play entry and blocking schemes. Reading this triangle is important for the linebackers and the safeties. DeLoach presents his alley rules for safeties. Force is the number one thing in the alley, meaning the run is turned back in by the first man on the play. The safety should never have a run/pass conflict. DeLoach also includes passing tools for the safties to use that help them in the run game. Using game footage, DeLoach effectively illustrates different coverages. 102 minutes. 2007. or better yet, make it a double feature paired with: Zone Coverages for the 4-3 Defense with Gary DeLoach, UCLA Secondary Coach Coach Gary DeLoach has over 25 successful years of experience coaching football at the HS, JUCO, DI-AA, and DI levels. In his first season at UCLA, the Bruin secondary allowed just 15 touchdown passes (#1 in Pac-10) over 13 games and led the Pac-10 in pass defense giving up just 200.7 yards per game through the air. In this DVD, you will learn the basic principles of zone and man pass defense. DeLoach highlights the four key principles in zone and man defense that he has taught throughout his career: Defending the field, breaking on the ball, rushing the passer, and defending deep to short. DeLoach emphasizes playing primarily zone or man defense and using the other as a "change of pace" defense. In this presentation, he will show you how to hide your coverages by playing pre-snap defense and making proper reads. Using game footage, DeLoach provides instruction for 2-deep zone, 3-deep zone, halves, quarters, press man, and off man coverages. He also includes reads and reactions versus the run. 54 minutes. 2005. click here to purchase Defensive Systems videos -
That is why scientist do this thing called research; that way they can quickly eliminate elves, gnomes, angels, vampires, unicorns, Jedi warriors, and Great Pumkins form the equation. There is no scientific evidence to support these entities, that is why they are referred to as faith based. There is absolutely nothing wrong with believing in what may or not be fictional characters. This is America and you are pretty much allowed to believe in anything as long as you're not violating any laws and keep current with your taxes. This doesn't mean that your particular beliefs should be imposed on anyone else, not on someone elses children, and possibly not even on your own.

You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?
ADLER replied to MeanGreenBrigader's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I wish we played UTA, SMU, and TCU twice each every season much like NMSU plays UTEP and UNM in nonconference games twice each season. It would be great for the fans, would sell tickets for the athletic departments, would ease the travel burden on student athletes, and would garner some metroplex media attention for the schools involved. That said, which schools do you think would fear such an arrangement? -

Of course I didn't like losing to anyone, but I am very happy for UTA and the success that they are having this season. Hopefully the renewed interest will expedite their building of a new on-campus arena. -
And it's good that he already likes UnderArmour gear. He's going to be wearing quite a bit of it for the next 5 years.

Unt Demolishes Smu (official Ncaa Attendance Stats Here)
ADLER replied to Objective Aggie's topic in Mean Green Football
Joining the WAC right now would be like buying a ticket on the Titanic right before it hit the iceberg. The WAC is composed of 4 higher profile schools (Boise St, Hawaii, Fresno St, and Nevada) and 5 schools that garner very little fan interest. Three of the four higher profile teams, Boise Fresno and Hawaii, have been campaigning for MWC membership while Hawaii has publicly contemplated the benefits of going independant. If these moves were to happen after North Texas jumped to the WAC, not only would we have screwed the Sun Belt , but would have done it to join the dregs of the WAC in a doomed conference. -

This may be an ArkStfan type of question, but I'll toss it out to the masses. What happens to the schools that repetitively fall below the mandated 15,000 attendance plateau? There are NCAA regulations which will eventually force them down to the division formerly known as 1AA. What's the timeframe for probation and demotion? What happens to the conference(s) that fall below the 8 required Division 1 members. While it's nothing to brag about, it's nice to see that the Sun Belt only has one team on that list. MBB Falls at North Texas Despite School Record 17 Three-Pointers Courtesy: Hartford Sports Information Release: 12/08/2007 DENTON, TX – The University of Hartford men’s basketball team lost to the University of North Texas, 105-97, in a shootout on Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit. Hartford (4-6 overall) broke the school record with 17 three-pointers in the contest, though it wasn’t enough to overcome 60 percent shooting by North Texas (6-2 overall). The Mean Green also shot 61 percent (14 of 23) from three-point range and 86 percent (31 of 36) from the free throw line. Junior Warren McLendon and sophomore Joe Zeglinski each finished with 24 points apiece for the Hawks, tying a season high for the former and a career high for the latter. Zeglinski went 6 of 10 from three-point range while McLendon pulled down eight rebounds and shot 9 of 13 from the free throw line. Freshman Morgan Sabia also finished in double figures with 12 points, all from beyond the arc. “North Texas is a very good basketball team, and they made the plays at the end that they needed to win the game,” said head coach Dan Leibovitz. “There are a number of positives we can take away from this game, but now we have to get back to work and get better as a unit.” Hartford finished with a season-high 21 assists and a season-low 11 turnovers. The Hawks, who made 10 three-pointers in the first half, eclipsed the old record of 12 on a trey by Sabia five minutes into the second stanza. Josh White led five players in double figures for North Texas with 24 points. Ben Bell and Tristan Thompson pitched in with 23 and 18, respectively. Hartford opened the second half with a 47-45 lead but quickly fell behind when North Texas scored nine of the stanza’s first 10 points. The Hawks answered with eight straight points and took the lead back on a three-pointer by Sabia at the 16:10 mark. The lead flip-flopped several times and neither team led by more than three until Thompson made a pair of free throws to give the Mean Green a 76-71 edge with 9:31 remaining. North Texas increased the margin to nine (82-73) before the Hawks made another charge. Hartford used a 14-4 run over a four-minute stretch to shift the momentum, pulling ahead 87-86 on a pair of McLendon free throws with 4:34 to play. Senior Brian Glowiak hit a pair of three-pointers during the run while McLendon added four from the charity stripe. The teams traded the lead on ensuing three-point shots, though North Texas took the lead for good on a bucket by Bell that made it 91-90 with 3:25 to go. The Mean Green outscored the Hawks 16-7 in the final 3:25 and missed only one of 12 free throw attempts. Hartford returns home to host Monmouth on Tuesday, December 11 at Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.
