Nt Football 1958: Have We Really Upgraded The Program
ADLER replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
Nice guy, good football coach, but as far as being a bastion of accurate information he rivals a John Lovitz character off Saturday Night Live. I left for Iowa because North Texas didn't get the Independence Bowl invitation. Yeah, that's the ticket. -
Well, it is a 12 game schedule, so therefore I believe it should be unacceptable for anyone at North Texas to schedule less than 6 at home. With the availability of 1AA teams to schedule, 7 home games should be the norm at least every other year.

A Fantastic, Spirited Idea Moving Nt Forward
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Kudos to Derrick Morgan! It sounds like he hit a home run with this idea. -
It can be done; TCU's former coach Billy Tubbs did it several years ago but it was a very unpopular decision with the player and his family. I think that it should only be done if it's in the best interest of the player and the player agrees. In this case I think it is as long as North Texas guarantees the player that a scholarship will be available to him next year. It would certainly give Knox time to add weight and to develop his game. If he comes straight to North Texas he'll likely be the 13th player down on the end of the bench and will garner very little playing time next year.

The best solution may be to extend scholarships to both Vouyoukas and Patterson and place Knox at a juco for a year to develop. Knox is a project that needs minutes and he's simply not going to get them riding the end of the bench next year at North Texas. The only danger is that he would be eligible to sign with any college after a year at juco.

You must solve the riddle: The content of this picture of Middle Tennesse fans never actually changes, only the arrangement gets altered. How many MTSU fans do you see in each configuration. To MTSU fans: Please do not attempt this; you'll wind up with a headache and cold feet.

Tomlinson Out For 2008 Opener, Maybe Longer
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Is a medical redshirt an option for Tomlinson? Instead of being a reserve for part of this season? He'd have another year to grow and the potential of being a 4 year starter. Franklin should probably redshirt as well. The kid is big and athletic but he still has the potential to become much stronger. If both these potential reserves redshirt this year North Texas can be set at both Offensive Tackle positions for '09, '10, '11, and 2012. -
Some guy named Jordy Verrill found a meteorite over there in the stands, but it was broken. It's All Green and It's All Good!

I'd take Ronnie Jr in a heartbeat if it would land his younger brother J'Mison 'Bobo' Morgan on the Mean Green squad. Bobo has reportedly wavered on his LOI to LSU since the firing of the coaching staff that recruited him. LSU would surely let him out of his LOI commitment, and Bobo could petition the NCAA for instant eligibility because of the coaching change. It sounds like Kansas may be a logical choice of Bobo, but if Ronnie saw the opportunity for both his sons to get a scholarship at the program that he helped build....well, the situation may change. Remember when SMU was able to sign Leonard Hopkins little brother Byron even though he was recruited by many national programs? SMU was able to do that by also signing Leonard and Byron's other brother that wasn't highly recruited. J'Mison would not only start instantly at North Texas but would be a star. It would potentially be a faster track to the NBA than the Kansas route where he could sit for a year and then compete for playing time and scoring opportunities. Playing close to home, having his brother on the team, and having his family and friends in the stands would all just be bonuses.

Both Texas State and UTSA are striving to not only field Division 1 Bowl Division football teams but have both made commitmets that will quickly dwarf UNT's budget. Both UTSA and Texas State have voted to incrementally raise their athletics fee to the state maximum of $20 per credit hour for up to 12 hours per student per semester. At enrollmets of 29,000 for UTSA and 28,000 for Texas State the student fees alone for these two schools would give them a larger budget than the Sun Belt schools. Additionally the communities have already statrted to increase their financial support to athletics at both schools. Texas State has seen an increase in donations since the new commitment and UTSA has received funding from Bexar County to pay for baseball, softball, and track facilities out of the county's amateur athletics / parks funding. New Orleans Saints owner and San Antonio resident Red McCombs has actively pursued having UTSA football be the primary tenant of the Alamo Dome citing the revenue that visiting sports fans bring to the Riverwalk and the San Antonio economy. The downtown hotels are helping push the agenda. And one more note: UTSA has already implemented the fee increase even though a schedule has not even been set for what year they will add football. They want to be able to hire coaches at the top levels from the very start.

True, that is a curious development. It would seem that a wide bridge over North Texas Avenue (as pictured) with steps to the parking lot would be an ideal design. Not only would it be safer an more convenient for the fans, especially mobily impaired fans, but it could also provide a covered entrance section for the visiting team's busses to load and unload at that lower west side door entrance. It was probably a cost consideration, but that was before North Texas Avenue contained as much traffic as it currently does.

Are you suggesting that UT is playing the Cowboys only to get a recruiting advantage in Wyoming? Look at it this way, Wyoming is getting a $250K for $250K home and home series from them, and then getting $900K for the second appearance in Austin. That $900K is higher than any guarantee that I have heard a purely whoring school receive. It's business, and even the most self enamored programs would be forced to play road games if the non-BCS schools would stop whoring out their teams. And in the future I never want to hear that teams won't play in Denton because of the stadium. North Texas has a blank slate to start with; if the new stadium is not sufficient to host any Division 1 school, then shame on every person in a decision making capacity. If we're able to play them then we need to be able to host them. That's just sports and ethical competition.

Well, if that can be done in Wyoming and in Central Florida, then it should be able to be done in North Texas. Please, no more selling of games without return dates...ever.

Thanks. I too thought that the Super Pit was opened around '73, but I was suprised to see what appeared to be a photograph of it on the cover of the 1968 media guide. That architectural drawing sure looks like a photograph though, especially with the foliage in the picture. I figured that some of our more senior members would solve this mystery.

now on Ebay.... 1960s NORTH TEXAS STATE UNIV BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDES (4) vintage North Texas State University Media Guides from 1967-68, 1968-69, 1969-70, and 1970-71. All are in Excellent, like new condition. ebay Look at the 1968-69 guide. It's sure odd to think of the pit as existing during those ancient times.....during the Beatles, LBJ, and before the Apollo Moon landing. That building is still impressive today.

LSU chooses Johnson 4/9/2008, 5:41 p.m. CDT By BRETT MARTEL The Associated Press NEW ORLEANS (AP) — LSU intends to hire Stanford's Trent Johnson, who led the Cardinal to the round of 16 in this year's NCAA tournament, as its new coach. Several people at LSU familiar with the selection process said a formal announcement was expected by Thursday. The people asked to remain anonymous because the hiring was not yet official. Stanford athletic director Bob Bowlsby said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Wednesday afternoon that Johnson was given permission to talk to LSU but had not yet resigned. "LSU notified me that they wanted to talk with him this morning as I was leaving Tampa" following the women's Final Four, Bowlsby said. "The position probably pays twice what ours does so I expect he feels he has to listen. Trent has not informed me that he has accepted another position." Johnson has been at Stanford for four seasons, compiling an 80-48 record. He had said recently he hoped to remain at Stanford, and had been slated to meet with Bowlsby on Thursday to discuss a new contract. Stanford hired Johnson in 2004 to replace Mike Montgomery, who left for the NBA's Golden State Warriors for two seasons and last week was hired by Bay Area rival California. Johnson was an assistant at Stanford before going to Nevada and then returning to the Cardinal. Stanford lost to Texas in the regional semifinals of the NCAA tournament. Stanford's twin 7-footers, Brook and Robin Lopez, announced last week they would hire agents and enter the NBA draft, forgoing their final two seasons of eligibility. LSU went to the Final Four only three seasons ago, but failed to make the NCAA tournament in each of the last two years. The Tigers went 13-18 this season, and former coach John Brady was fired during the year. Assistant Butch Pierre took over on Feb. 8 and led LSU to victories in five of its last nine contests, but the Tigers lost in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament. This week, LSU also likely lost one of its best players when 6-foot-10 freshman forward Anthony Randolph announced he intended to enter the NBA draft. Randolph did not immediately hire an agent, however, leaving a slim possibility he could return for his sophomore season. LSU considered a range of candidates, including Travis Ford at Massachusetts, Anthony Grant at Virginia Commonwealth and Oliver Purnell at Clemson. Ford and Purnell both withdrew from consideration Tuesday. ___ AP Sports Writers Janie McCauley and Josh Dubow in San Francisco contributed to this report.

This is actually quite simple. If Nancy Lieberman will accept the position, you hire her. If she won't, then you take the next best candidate.

Value is the pivotal word in this whole discussion. Some people are experiencing difficulty differentiating between Value and Cheap. A Value is when you get a product that you believe is comparable for a lesser price, Cheap is when you are willing to sacrafice quality in order to get a better price. North Texas has significantly lessened the perception of it's quality by failing to adaquately fund it's athletic programs for the past 50 years; stating that it has a lower slightly price doesn't enhance it's value. It's just advertising a less desirable product at a slightly lower price: the cheap alternative. As displayed above, North Texas could maintain it's price range and still significantly improve it's product. Why hasn't it?
