Ulm Ad Says "no" To Scheduling La. Tech In Any Sport
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For ULM, El Guapo is a tiny little school located down the road in impoverished Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. But as sure as his name is Bobby Staub, the people of UL-Monroe can conquer their own personal El Guapo! -
Ulm Ad Says "no" To Scheduling La. Tech In Any Sport
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Those kind of insults are appropriate message board fodder, but when it becomes university doctrine promoted by the football coach and Athletic Director, then it becomes an issue. I am proud of ULM for showing a little pride in themselves. The Latex have been giving ULM the George Mcfly treatment for an awful long time and it's about time that the Warthawgs reacted. I am not a big fan of ULM, but if their AD asks the other Belt programs not to schedule Tech than I would hope we would support them. The only way North Texas should play Tech is if we get a 2 for 1 series with the 2 games in Denton. ULL should do the same thing with with 2 in Lafayette for every 1 in Ruston. -
Muts Boost Student Tuition And Athletic Fees
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Students at the three University of Louisiana system schools; ULL, La-Tech, and ULM, contribute almost $800.00 each per year for athletics. Those schools are able to stay competitive with North Texas (which is about as large as all three combined) because the poor leadership at North Texas has been able to aviod facing the university's biggest issue. It may seem a little excessive, and it's outside the state's set parameters, but a similar contribution at North Texas would create an athletic budget of around $24 million. What kind of fan/aluni support would North Texas have if it had excellent facilities and outstanding teams. -

Origins Of The "mean" Green Defense....
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
OK guys, and now the facts..... Joe Green was never called Mean Joe Greene while he was at North Texas. When the Steelers selected him with their top pick (3rd overall) in the 1969 NFL Draft, a Pittsburg writer was confused by the team nickname and thought it was a reference to Joe Greene. The headline read Steelers Select "Mean" Joe Green with First Pick. The name stuck and gained noteriety as his dominance shocked the NFL . -
In the words of Dr Gretchen Bataille "This University needs leadership." Unfortunately, I thought that's what she was hired for. Hopefully she will someday awaken with the knowledge that that North Texas not only has the potential to be a great university, but that she can be the leader in that objective.

Ay quarterback I hope it's Giovanni Vizza backed up by Daniel Meager. Vizza is clearly the starter but Meager provides a seasoned reserve with senior leadership. Riley is being groomed to inherit the reigns from Giovanni and it would be unfortunate to burn his redshirt year and lose his 2012 year of eligibility. Please remember that Riley has recently had shoulder surgery. On the line, I would like to see Troy Franklin take a redshirt year and Matt Tomlinson to sit out the season as a medical redshirt. Sure both of them could provide depth this season, but with an additional year putting NFL type muscle mass onto those large frames, those players could become a set of bookend tackles that would be capable of starting the 2009-2012 seasons. That's too much potential to simply waste on reserve roles this season.

Origins Of The "mean" Green Defense....

College Football Hall of Fame Denton Live Magazine "Greene played for UNT from 1966-68. The Eagles later became known as the “Mean Green,” an alternate nickname brought about by Mean Joe’s legacy and the school colors." Ugh, thanks SID. I actually own the original photograph of Mean Joe that was taken by a Star-Telegram photographer and used for the Nov 15, 1967 article. (It's this one where Joe has his hands out in front in an action pose). Topps uses a similar pose for Joe Greene in their College All-American cards except Joe has his hands down by his hips. -
Have you considered that we may get the same bus driver that we had for the ride to Norman last year. DallasGreen is right about the timing aspect, because that bus driver would have to leave tomorrow to be in Houston by mid September.

No he hasn't, but someone else did tonight. Dallas (Texas) Spruce athlete Daniel Mayberry confirmed his commitment just a little while ago.

@ Kansas State - L TULSA - L @ LSU - L @ Rice - L FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL - W UL-LAFAYETTE - W @ UL-Monroe - L TROY - L @ Western Kentucky - L @ Florida Atlantic - L @ Middle Tennessee - L ARKANSAS STATE - W It's another rebuilding year. Prediction: 3 wins and 9 losses, but with a little luck, victories can also be had against Rice, Monroe, WKU, FAU and Middle. Beating Tulsa is unlikely but it is not impossible. KSU and LSU are the only sure losses and the KSU game may be more respectable than recent contests against other BCS schools.

Inside Dish : Pac 10 Could Face Expansion
ADLER replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Here's my off-the-cuff prediction: Nevada and Utah. BYU carries too much baggage. Utah and Nevada may not be the only major college in their respective states, but both can deliver their whole state's market to the Pac 10. -
Not interested in the tickets but I will be at the game out of blind loyalty. As one Tennessee fan so eloquently put it "LSU is a lot like Mogadishu except the natives wear purple and yellow." Frankly, I thought it was an insult to Somalians.

Uh, do you think that their courtious behavior might have had just a little itsy-bitsy teeny bit to do with the fact that their drunken riotous fan base was under review by the SEC for having pelted the Tennesssee busses with bottles a couple of weeks earlier and that Skip Bertram had threatened that all taigating behavior may end? The busses were carrying Tennessee cheerleaders, dance team, and members of the Tennessee athletic department to the stadium when they got stopped behind the LSU team busses. The LSU fans rocked the Tennesse busses and smashed several of the windows. Louisaina state troopers that were present en mass did absolutely nothing to curtail the behavior. Even the trashiest members of our society can occasionally behave when they know they are being closely watched, and every criminal finds Jesus on death row, but be assured, these Tigers don't change thier stripes.

Best of luck Coach Price. What about a replacement? Wouldn't former UNT star Ronnie Morgan make an outstanding assistant coach? It would enable North Texas to bring home one of our premeir players that had helped lead North Texas to the NCAA tourney. Wouldn't his two sons Ronnie Jr and Bobo would be able to attend the university for free?

Current UNT plans for Radisson and Holiday Inn info Holiday Inn on foreclosure list, could be sold in June Denton’s only remaining full-service hotel could be in jeopardy. Holiday Inn, which opened in Denton 14 months ago, is on this month’s foreclosure list and could be sold at auction June 3, according to information released Friday by Foreclosure Listing Service Inc. ...... The Holiday Inn is Denton’s only remaining hotel with conference rooms and dining services since the Radisson hotel is set to close within a week. The University of North Texas agreed with Radisson owners in March to end their partnership of more than 20 years. UNT hired an interim management company in April and plans to close the hotel for good June 1. UNT leaders have said that having a full-service hotel near campus is important. To organize the closing, UNT hired Milton “Pat” Howell as a consultant. Howell served as associate vice president for facilities at the university from 2001 until his retirement in 2005. Howell said the university is still weighing what to do with the old hotel building, but it is not interested in buying the Holiday Inn because “it is outside the range of our master plan.” Howell said that when the university closes the old Radisson, it plans to leave the utilities on and keep a security force so the building will stay in good shape. He said UNT leaders are still considering whether to remodel the existing building, expand it or tear it down. “I just can’t give a definite answer on that,” he said. “We’re still exploring all our options.”

Jmison Morgan Asks For Release From Lsu..one School?

SOC center says he's headed to UCLA 10:40 PM CDT on Friday, May 23, 2008 South Oak Cliff senior J'mison Morgan confirmed Friday that he will attend UCLA. J'mison Morgan plans to attend UCLA Well, I guess our chances just got a little slimmer, but statistically, not by too much. -
I know, the message is so simple, the solution is so simple, but there are still so many people that can't / won't comprehend it.

Residential Vs Commuter Rated Universities.
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
College Board I think this may be what you're looking for. I have it open to the North Texas page but it has the official designation for every college. Just type in the college name in the College QuickFinder box. It has a lot of interesting information on each school including student demographics. -
Here's the crystal ball. All this crap is going to be somewhat sorted out within the next two years. 2010 is when Notre Dame's contract with NBC expires. Either Notre Dame joins the Big Ten, or the Big Ten plucks a school from the Big East; probably Syracuse or Rutgers. The Big East reacts by raiding CUSA for up to 5 schools to bring their football membership to an even dozen like the other BCS leagues. The 5 eastern CUSA programs that have strong fan support would be the obvious targets. Most of the remaining non BCS teams in the southern US will probably form a combined conference with a couple possibly going to the MAC and one western school joining the MWC. A couple of remaining football programs will possibly be discontinued or drop to a less expensive division. It won't be please everyone, but it will be the best home available for all the 'smaller' programs that regularly have crowds less than 30,000. Life will go on.
-
Notre Dame is the linchpin in this whole ordeal and the Big Ten and Notre Dame are both waiting until the Notre Dame-NBC contract expires in 2010. Notre Dame will go with whichever plan is more financially lucrative; Big Tem membership or Independent. If Notre Dame remains independent, watch for the Big Ten to add Syracuse or Rutgers to bring its membership to 12. The Big East will probably respond by not only replacing the departed school, but by raising their football membership to 12 just like the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, and Big Twelve. All 5 of those new schools could be current eastern CUSA members that have already been positioning themselves; Memphis, Marshall, ECU, UCF, and Southern Miss.

Jmison Morgan Asks For Release From Lsu..one School?
ADLER replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I wasn't speculating that he was coming to North Texas, merely making light of Emmitt's correct prediction that Morgan would go to UCLA when I thought he would be Kansas bound. 99% chance? I guess that still leaves Kansas a .999% chance and North Texas a .001% chance. -

Morgan freed from LSU commitment, may play at UCLA just to prove Adler wrong Sources told FOXSports.com that new LSU coach Trent Johnson plans to honor signee J'Mison Morgan's request and will release the senior big man from his letter-of-intent on Tuesday afternoon, effectively paving the way for Morgan to land at UCLA. The 6-foot-10, 270-pound Morgan signed with former LSU coach John Brady and appeared to stick with his decision even after Trent Johnson was announced as the Tigers new coach on April 10. However, the family had a change of heart last week and asked for his release. According to sources, Morgan has made no secret of his desire to play at UCLA. Morgan, a Dallas native, is ranked the No. 29 player in the country by Scout.com and would fill a major need for UCLA. Bruins freshman big man Kevin Love declared and Ben Howland doesn't have a legitimate low-post presence.
