Beer Question. Which Brand To Drink At Tailgating?
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, I'll probably have a Redeye beer, but I'm really not that crazy about the egg. As far as tailgating beer, my preference is for a ice cold lighter type of beer when it's still hot outside. oh, and go vote for North Texas (click here) -
Several players were lost to graduation, but those injuries, especially on the offensive line, will certainly affect them against deeper depth charts like at UT. I wonder if Howard may be forced to eat his "UT players are soft" quote.

Well, North Texas has now been caught by two of our regional rivals. click HERE to vote in TEXAS FOOTBALL poll It really doesn't matter much if at all, but then again, why not beat these guys?

Beer Question. Which Brand To Drink At Tailgating?
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Anheuser-Busch's best known beers include brands such as Budweiser, Busch (originally known as Busch Bavarian Beer) and Michelob families, Bud Light, and Natural Light. Since the original post in this thread I have discovered Shiner Bohemian Black Lager. It's not exactly a tailgate type of beer, but an outstanding quiet evening beverage. Similar aroma to Michelob Dark with a more robust flavor. Well, this week I'll be heading to Kansas where the locals drink their beer Red (mixed with tomato juice). No exactly my first choice, but I'll probably have one just for tradition's sake. -

Beer Question. Which Brand To Drink At Tailgating?
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Nope. Per Wikipedia: Lone Star is owned by Pabst. Production of Lone Star is currently contracted out to non-Pabst owned breweries (e.g. Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth). The InBev purchase of Anheuser-Busch in July 2008 prompted Pabst to claim to be the largest American-owned brewer. In fact, it is a "virtual brewer," a marketing company whose 85 brands are brewed by either Miller (South African owned) or Lion (Indian owned). -
With the July sale of Anheuser-Busch to the Belgians, the Budweiser and Michelob products join Miller and Coors as being foreign owned brewers. Anheuser-Busch sold to Belgian company Yes, I am well aware that during the last decade many American Businesses have been sold to foriegn ventures. But I refuse to voluntarily support any country that practices economic warfare against the United States if I can possibly avoid it. The Shiner products are Texas brewed at the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas and owned by the Gambrinus Company in San Antonio, but unlike the foreign owned brewers, Shiner doesn't sponsor North Texas football. Any suggestions?

I think that is the case. I updated the UNT site about fifty times and never got an SMU ad. I doubt very many people actually saw it, but it's still funny as hell that it was there and that it got some feathers ruffled.

I just looked on the ponyfans site and this was posted by Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex: Now, that's some funny stuff.

Check out the poll on the bottom left of the page. TEXAS FOOTBALL poll (Click Here) Sure we should support our own school, but shouldn't we also accept this opportunity to dogpile another?

I haven't seen it on the site, but if true, I think it's pretty funny. North Texas has always been their Super Bowl. Remember this past season when SMU fans on their own site said that the North Texas game was the most anticipated game of the year? It wasn't even close, someting like 70% of their fans said so. More SMU fans were looking forward to the North Texas game than all CUSA games combined. They were willing to scrap this whole past season to concentrate on their chance to beat North Texas, and now we can see that their obsession with North Texas continues. Although it sure seems early, they are probably starting to get excited about the series that starts in 2016.

I'm sure that is the way most fans have voted. TEXAS FOOTBALL Poll

Justin Willis
ADLER replied to UNTLifer's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Willis is a very good athlete, but not the prototype quarterback for the June Jones offense, and his history of suspensions don't help his case. The two freshmen are both incredibly accurate passers but will also make their share of freshman mistakes. Willis could possibly win more games this year, but it could be at the cost of delaying the full implementation of June's offense. This is officially a rebuilding year at SMU, and coming off a 1-12 season, there is nothing wrong with that. Willis may ride it out for the next two years to get the diploma or he may transfer within the next week to a Playoff Championship Subdivision (1-AA) school where he can get more playing time. -
I think it took everyone by surprise, kind of like when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Who Would Be On Your North Texas Mt. Rushmore?
ADLER replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Hakeem, Craig and Earl. No way on journeyman Nolan Ryan, unless they put it where it belongs, right behind a sculpture of Mike Scott. Abner Haynes, Joe Green, Don January and Ann Sheridan (strictly for aesthetics) -
Utah State was already getting pretty bad before Dickey got there, Dickey is just speeding up the process. Unfortubately for Utah State, their anemic offense doesn't draw fan interest and they may soon be removed from the Bowl Championship Subdivision because of their low attendance.

Is the scrimmage really "closed to the public", or is it again only open to friends, family, and any Sally-Sweet-Knees while everyone that the athletic department /football staff dislikes is kicked out.

Ebay - LIFE MAGAZINE, ANN SHERIDAN Actress Ann Sheridan played basketball at North Texas (her real name was Clara Lou Sheridan) during the early 1930's before moving to Hollywood. She starred in such films as Angels with Dirty Faces (1938), opposite James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart, Dodge City (1939) with Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland, Torrid Zone with Cagney and They Drive by Night with George Raft and Bogart (both 1940), The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942) with Bette Davis, and Kings Row (1942), where she received top billing playing opposite Ronald Reagan, Robert Cummings, and Betty Field. Known for having a fine singing voice, Ann also appeared in such musicals as Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943) and Shine On, Harvest Moon (1944). She was also memorable in two of her biggest hits, Nora Prentiss and The Unfaithful, both in 1947. In 1939 Sheridan was labeled by Life Magazine as the Number 1 Glamour Girl in the World, and was one of the most popular pin-up girls for American GI's through World War II.

That is a pretty serious issue in that it could easily be abused. Let's just say that we have a player that has already redshirted a year and has a nagging injury from spring practice or had offseason surgery. Instead of waiting until the player is fully healthy to be added to the depth chart in November, why not let him play a little in the first game and claim that he reinjured himself. He could sit the remainder of the year but would have 4 full seasons remaining if he received that medical redshirt. North Texas has a couple of players right now that would benefit from that move and get a 6th year.

Howards just fighting fire with fire. Earlier this summer Texas assistant coach Major Applewhite responded to a question about who would be this season's starting quarterback by saying "We won't really know until the 3rd game, since we don't play anybody in our first 2 games. We play Florida Atlantic and UTEP, and since we're going to kick their asses we won't really be able to tell for sure until we play some actual competition."
