Maybe the writer was actually thinking of the Lamar State University men's soccer program. After all, people in the Dallas/Ft Worth region do seem to often get the two programs confused because they are so unbelievably similar. tidbit. tidbit.

Yeah, but all the reclining chairs in the front and all the booths in the center area are going to be occupied by whorns fans already situated for the Arkansas at Texas....2:30pm game. They are going to squeal like stuck pigs if their game gets moved to one of the smaller screens. Oh well, we'll have to wait and see what happens. I hope it goes well, but that the Mean Green also are able to establish their territory. I don't think fans in either of those two school's home towns would make the sacrifice that they'll be asking of North Texas fans.

Are you suggesting that he's on a middle name basis with the former Presidents; men like Baines Johnson, Milhouse Nixon, Rudolph Ford and Earl Carter? That's odd. -
Well, it's not just a typo. It's a grammatical error that changes the entire announcement...and it was published in the newspaper. Oops. Well, score one for the Texas public school system.

Don't do it Quoner. You've got plenty to live for. The Hoff's "Seriously, That Water Was Cold" album is set for 2009 release. On a side note, I don't know if this is indicative of his lifestyle, or if he's just having a really rough morning after a really good party. 0l2y_glJew0 -

Now, that's funny. I thought they were complaining about logos on the cheerleader's backsides, but that's kinda embarrassing for the university's logo to be placed right there on the football players. I-D-Ho on da A-Ho -
This selection probably was made by Norm's friend Andy who is a Giant Panda. Pandas like bamboo, which is green, and don't care for Rice. For real insight into any contest involving these two Texas teams, the best source of information is the legendary Coach Tom Foolery. I believe that he coached against both Todd Dodge and David Bailiff while at the high school level.

It's the right colors.................... Unless, of course, you are talking about the UNT branch campus in Denton. Get ready for it folks. UNT-D is going to want to push their own identity. -
Yeah, but those are FACTS, man. They need to be redundantly put into every article because they are FACTS! here's a tidbit, Bobbi Roguemore must gots some serious issues....tidbit...can't even report the necessary facts...tidbit....SMU fans must be wondering exactly how their current situation compares to that at Lamar State University in Beaumont....ditto,ditto....tidbit,tidbit...... She must be a conspiracy theorist, you know, the kind who's own dog don't even like them (I know, they tell me so).

There are 3 state schools in the Big 12 Conference that charge a small athletics fee. An expensive optional football ticket package is available but even it doesn't guarantee tickets, those are allocated through a drawing. They have built their programs to where this is possible. Many of the other state football playing schools are increasing their athletics fee to the $20 per credit hour range. Texas State, UTSA (which is starting a program) and now West Texas State. Students at these schools are admitted to all athletic events just by presenting their student ID. Unfortunately, I am labeled an illiterate tin foil wearing conspiracy theorist (who's own mother doesn't even like him) when I contended that Lamar State University's athletics fee of $85 was possibly not the best example for a comparison. Lamar State University plays at the lowest echelon of Division 1 at the Division 1-AAA level (1-AAA means they don't have football). Their Southland Conference consists of a group of schools that are within a couple of hours bus trip from each other. Only Central Arkansas is further for Lamar than the closest Sun Belt Conference rival for North Texas. Yet, Lamar State University's $85 per semester is still considerably more than what students currently pay at North Texas ($3 per credit hour, and will continue to pay until a new stadium is completed). Oh well.

5 To Rerun Stadium Story In A Few Minutes

Rice sure looked pretty solid as they rattled off those 56 unanswered points in the SMU game. The two late touchdowns by SMU made the score look closer but they were scored against many reserves.

Actually, and I may be in the minority for this, I don't think that an issue that will not affect students until more than 4 calendar years should be voted on by the student body. Please note that this does not include the current fee which will probably be enacted before that time. That way you can have the most informed students (SGA representatives) deciding issues which would be in the best long-term interest of the university without having all these knee-jerk reactions and spontaneous fees added to existing students. Prospective students can then make their college selections fully informed of all the costs while the university could still afford to construct all the amenities necessary to create a top tier destination university.

***Rice Game Watching Event At Pourhouse This Saturday***

It's the best ever arrangement that I have ever seen for 'sports bar' dining. It has dining booths in a tiered theatre setting. I was shocked at how nice the facility actually is. -
***Rice Game Watching Event At Pourhouse This Saturday***
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I have a few thoughts on this. First, thank you to both the Pourhouse and to whomever from gomeangreen.com has put these events together. The venue for the LSU game watching party was outstanding. One comment though, and I don't know if there really is an easy remedy. There were other games being shown on the side screens (which I don't really have a problem with because I like to watch other games during breaks in the action). The problem was that because other games started slightly ahead of the North Texas game most of the 'prime' seats were already taken by people who were there to watch other games. The result was that many of the fans that came to the North Texas Game Party didn't have seating available and wound up sitting in other parts of the restaurant. I know it's a business and the Pourhouse wants to treat all their customers as best possible, but is there any way this can be fixed without inconveniencing anybody? Will a 4:00 start make it possible to direct non-UNT fans to other areas of the restaurant? And a note about the picture quality, it looked great for the LSU game. I can only imagine how good it will be for the Rice game. Thanks again. -
People choose to ignore these two colleges as 'smaller schools'. Like I stated earlier, both are in the 30,000 student range and growing quickly (UNT has over 34,000 but 2,212 of those are at the UNT-Dallas campus and will not contribute an athletics fee because UNT-Dallas will be a free-standing university before any increase is enacted). UTSA already has the Alamodome for their home stadium and Texas State will need to expand their existing facility. North Texas will have to divert a large portion of it's fee towards construction of a new stadium. Both universities are showing a commitment and their communities and alumni are starting to take notice. It doesn't take Nostradamus to tell what's going to happen. Yet a decade from now many of you won't be able to figure out exactly "how all these other schools passed us by."
-
Yes, they each had a student referendum pass (by between 60 to 70% at each school). The referendum is raising the fee from $10 per credit hour to $20 per credit hour. UTSA is to cap theirs at 12 hours ( $240 per semester) and Texas State is capping theirs at 15 hours ($300 per semester). Like UNT, both schools are state assisted colleges with enrollments around the 30,000 range. The students at these two schools have passed referendums which will increase the contributions per student up to 7 times what North Texas students currently pay. Even if the refendum passes at North Texas, the contribution at the other schools will be twice what North Texas students pay in athletic fees.
-
Why use the Lamar Cardinals and their $85 fee for a potential fledgling 1-AA football program as the example? Surely, there are better examples. .
-
They should work on building the rivalry so that game can be a bigger deal when both teams rejoin the Big Sky.
