  2. Guys, this is purely wild speculation, nothing more. Simply put; Morgan was one of the very top recruits in the nation coming out of high school. At the time, people wondered how long he'd stay at college before opting for the NBA. He signed with UCLA which had just lost it's own dominant big man as the 5th pick in the NBA draft. Everything looked like it was going to plan. Morgan showed up at UCLA and they didn't really need a player of his size for their system. Morgan was used sparingly. He was told that he would now need to be much lighter and quicker in order to get significant playing time. Morgan has since gone on a special diet and conditioning program to transform himself. see the video on Scout.com He will surely leave if he still does not see significant playing time this coming year. If he does leave, he would then have to sit a year before having 2 years of eligibility remaining. If he does leave, would his best option be to go somewhere that they could work him into the rotation, or somewhere that he would be the featured player? A featured player at a college close to home, where he has family connections, where his friends and family could watch every game he played? Time will tell, he's been everything he was billed to be, he has done everything he's been asked to do, but I see this potential NBA talent as not getting a chance to develop because of Coach Howland's system.
  3. Nothing against Baylor, but he could run into some of the same situations there that he is facing at UCLA, a logjam at the center position. Plus Waco is over a hundred miles from his home, that is quite a round-trip drive for friends and family that want to watch all his games. In high school his parents arranged their work schedules to be able to watch all their son's games. Would that even be possible for weeknight games in Waco, I doubt it. He could be a star player at North Texas; a school close to home and the very same one where his father is in the Hall of Fame. And, yes, I remember the date that Ronnie went to the NCAA tourney as 1988; it's just that my defective keyboard occasionally mistypes numbers or creates spelling errors.
  4. Is J'mison 'BoBo' Morgan a possible future UNT recruit? Why not? None of this is from any inside information. It's a result of having recently talked with some UCLA fans, reading the UCLA message boards, and a few article from the press that covers UCLA basketball. The 6 foot 10, 270 pound center from South Oak Cliff that switched his 2008 letter of intent from LSU to UCLA has discovered that things are not working out so well in Los Angeles. The UCLA team is very deep in talented players and runs a system that isn't ideal for Morgan's abilities. Result: Morgan hasn't been receiving much playing time because he hasn't been developing at the desired pace. And he hasn't been developing at the desired pace because he hasn't been receiving much playing time. He's caught in a catch 22. Meanwhile, other quicker players better suited for his coach Howland's system are garnering more playing time and are passing Morgan on the depth chart. The recent 5 Star player may wind up transferring out of UCLA. Morgan has recently committed to playing another year at UCLA, but even that may be a mistake. UCLA wants to retain him for bench depth and certain man to man defensive situations where he's used to 'goon' an opposing player. For a player that had future NBA aspirations when he came out of high school, being lost in a depth chart shuffle for even one more year could have very expensive circumstances. BoBo needs to be somewhere where he will have a featured role and can keep those NBA aspirations valid. Morgan is a very solid player, he's just not very well suited for UCLA's system. Morgan would be a dominant player in the Sun Belt, would develop his game by actually getting to play, and would still have many opportunities to showcase his abilities against excellent opponents. J'mison Morgan's father Ronnie Morgan starred in basketball at North Texas after being an all-state player at SOC. Ronnie was the leading rebounder and second highest scorer on North Texas' 1986 NCAA Tournament team. After college Ronnie Morgan spent 7 years playing basketball professionally overseas to support his family and missed much of the childhood of his children. Ronnie and his wife, former South Oak Cliff cheerleader Bianca, live in the Dallas area and they would be able to attend all of J'mison's home games if he were to play for North Texas. Suddenly, a transfer seems like an excellent decision for all involved, except for UCLA, which would lose a player that they are counting on for bench depth.
  5. I believe the stated timeframe is by February 2010, but possibly as early as December 2009. The stadium is planned to be ready for the opening of the 2011 season.
  6. Well, like they say, hindsight is 20/20. The situation has changed quite a bit for NMSU since they committed to join the WAC. Initially the strongest lure for NMSU to the WAC was finally getting to participate in a conference with one of their two heated rivals. Unfortunately for NMSU, UTEP quickly bolted for CUSA when TCU vacated that league to join NMSU's other rival New Mexico in the Mountain West Conference. Once again, New Mexico State was left out, only now with even larger travel expenses and little exposure, other than some bodybag games, in their primary recruiting area, Texas. They experienced a brief financial windfall from the Boise and Hawaii BCS games, but their on field performances have gradually become less competitive during the last several years.
  7. I would sure like to see Bonnie Brae rerouted to curve and cross the railroad tracks north of the softball (and hopefully future baseball stadium)to eliminate the prospect of having a 5 lane thoroughfare dividing the athletic village. A Bonnie Brae route visible from I-35W would also enable the possibility of having a small restaurant row close to that section of campus.
  8. Three Sun Belt Schools Finish in Top-100 of Directors Cup NEW ORLEANS – Three Sun Belt Conference institutions ranked among the Top-100 schools nationally in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Director’s Cup final standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Denver ranked the highest among the league’s 13 institutions, as the Pioneers were listed 54th with their 396.50 points, followed by a record-76th place finish for Middle Tennessee with 259 points and WKU (88th 207.50 points). 10. Just think...What if Ralph Sampson had never gotten injured? We would be talking about Michael Jordan the way that we talk about World B Free, George Gervin, and other high scoring NBA legends that never won anything.
  11. He should have just told his wife.... The truth is I never left you All through my wild days My mad existence I kept my promise Don't keep your distance
  12. Brittany Barnhill played her high school ball at Justin Northwest High School which is about a five minute drive from the new North Texas softball stadium.

  15. Here's a few thoughts for any Louisiana Tech fans that may be perusing this thread. The WAC not admitting UNT, ASU, and ULL together is the only thing that saved ULM from being permanently knocked down to Division 1AA. Tech would have been the closest conference road game for fans of UNT, ASU, and ULL and could have easily developed a rivalry with each school. Games become 'events' when large groups of vising fans are present. The Sun Belt Football Conference would have ceased to exist. Troy, FAU and FIU would likely have been unable to make a sustained jump to 1-A football, Western Kentucky and South Alabama never would have even tried. The WAC would have had the New Orleans Bowl starting with the 2005 season. An annual Independence Bowl berth could possibly have been contracted for the conference. Oh well. In spite of being in the bottom of the lowly Sun Belt the last 4 years, North Texas attendance has continued to increase, booster club membership is way up, new facilities have been built for most sports, the athletic budget has continued to increase as revenue has risen, there soon will be a brand new state-of-the-art football stadium, the students created a new athletics fee which will contribute an additional 7.5 million per year to athletics, John Q. Hammons Hotels and the City of Denton are planning a Hotel and Convention Center that will be built on athletics property and will provide additional revenue to the Athletic Department, and if this all wasn't enough, Chesapeake is set to drill just south of the former golf course which together with the rest of the athletic village sits atop the Barnett Shale. The football team has been horrible the last four seasons, but for an athletic program that doesn't receive a penny from state funds, the future looks pretty good.
  16. Such was the wisdom of one Norval Pohl. After the WAC was raided by CUSA, losing Rice, Tulsa, SMU, and soon after UTEP, WAC Commissioner Karl Benson approached Utah State, NMSU and North Texas about joining the WAC. Wright Waters proposed forming a league by combining the remaining 6 WAC schools with the 8 Sun Belt football schools for a combined football conference. It was an awkward idea, but as Sun Belt Commissioner, Waters had to protect the interests of all members, not just the football schools. The WAC western schools had no interest in such an alignment. UNT President Norval Pohl was Director of the Sun Belt Presidents Council. Dr Pohl worked with the presidents of the other Sun Belt schools and with the president of Louisiana Tech and made the proposal to the WAC that that North Texas, NMSU, and Utah State would join the WAC on certain conditions, that invitations were also extended to Arkansas State, Louisiana Lafayette, and Idaho, and that a suitable Division 1 home was found for MTSU (MAC). FAU, FIU, Troy, and La Monroe were not yet Sun Belt members and were not part of the deal. Utah State's athletic director, Rance Pugmire then broke ranks and announced that USU was joining the WAC no matter what. The deal then fell apart because Benson told the NMSU commissioner that if NMSU didn't join then the WAC could invite Idaho and be through with expansion. NMSU, which has forever aspired to be in a conference with either UTEP or New Mexico and couldn't risk being left out, left for the WAC with the blessings from the other Sun Belt schools. UTEP then bolted for CUSA and Benson again approached North Texas, stating that if North Texas wouldn't join, then the WAC would invite ASU or ULL and that North Texas would be left without a conference. Idaho was to be left to die. Pohl again declined as long as Division 1 homes were not guaranteed for Idaho, ULL, ASU, and MTSU. The presidents of ASU and ULL also declined. Benson, Pohl, and the presidents of these other universities knew that if one of the three, UNT. ASU, or ULL left, the Sun Belt football conference would die due to shortage of potential football members, In desperation, the WAC accepted Idaho, the same program that they had been trying to let die for the preceding months. The Sun Belt then offered Troy, FAU, FIU, and La Monroe. (Until this point ULM had been a full member of the Southland but only played their football in the Sun Belt. That's why we have what we have today.
  17. Boon, I'm saying she experienced a deeply religious experience.
  18. I believe that's a photograph of Marlene Desmond. I knew her in college, very religious girl.
  19. I think all the schools in the UT system now have orange as their primary color, though many have an accent color. All the branches of LSU are purple and gold, and I believe some of them also may use Tigers as their mascot, This builds unity for a system. Until this decision, the multiple campuses of the North Texas system were going to have nothing in common except the same shared Board of Regents.
  20. I hope that means exactly what it sounds like it means.
  21. We need another quarterback that can pass, run and catch. Javia and Riley will both be playing together through the 2010, 2011, and 2012 seasons. This signing will enable North Texas to finally make the transition to the A-11 offense.
  22. Brett, your father is in our prayers.
