  1. A high percentage of North Texas attendance is based on people that come out for the tailgating and then stay for part of the game. It amazes me that North Texas has been averaging 16,000 people even though very few people really believe that the games will have entertaining conclusions.
  2. Funny, the very thought of Deloss Dodds being upset about a blown call. He's at UT so all blown calls automatically are to benefit his team. If, if, a blown call ever went against UT, he would have a lot more of a reaction than Rick Villarreal and the officiating crew responsible would have their employment terminated by Monday morning.
  3. Donavain Mallet What you talkin' bout Willis?
  4. Safety Cooper Gerami Jeff Spicoli
  5. He'd probably be swatting down airplanes from atop the Empire State Building. Corbin was a beast at 5-10 and 250, Cantly could be a real monster at 6-4 and 320 if he applied similar dedication.
  6. Cantly is in his third year here and still hasn't shown what he is capable of accomplishing. The guy has incredible potential, including a rare combination of size, speed, and strength. With extreme dedication his final two years could become another Ndamukong Suh that just blasts though offensive linemen at will. What's missing is the weight room commitment and that killer instinct. I believe that if he had Corbin Montgomery's mindset, this kid would already be highly sought after by the NFL.
  7. No. If this disastrous injury filled season had been Dodge's first then I would agree that he deserves a pass. It's not. This is Dodge's fourth season and he has three horrible seasons already in his portfolio.
  8. I'd like to see it happen.
  9. Hey guys, try to cool down a little. We are all frustrated. We need every dedicated fan that we can get, regardless of the degree of dedication. All of us have obviously been discouraged by the results of these last five seasons, and what appears to currently be another rough campaign. Some of us have different levels of emotional and financial commitment, and some even have family members directly involved. We need everyone of us to hang together to make the most of this season. Next year holds so much promise; beautiful new stadium and what will probably be exciting new leadership for our football team.
  10. The people that follow these message boards are not the ones that the ones that I am concerned about losing. As far as I am concerned they already have such strong brand loyalty that those diehards are even wasting their time reading rambling messages like this. I am more concerned with losing the interest of the students and casual fans, you know, people with entertainment interests not so limited to attending football games or perusing college football message boards. OK, I think that we can all see that the on-field entertainment value may not promise to be it's best this season. No fault or blame needs to be pointed at anybody, there has just been a plague of injuries that has decimated the team. So, what can to be done to compensate for the on-field product. The football game-days are a combination of lots of elements; tailgate cookouts, beer, collegiate heraldry, music, kids activities, beautiful coeds, alumni functions, and a lot more. How can these activities which we can contribute towards be increased to offset the area that we do not have any control? Concerts, free food, free beer, free tee shirts, 'beauty' contests, door prizes, etc..... What will it take to get people to keep coming out to the games? Now, I know you people are saying to yourselves, "but Adler, even if we have HUGE parties outside the stadium, why would students want leave the tailgate parties to come into the stadium?" Well, that's the easy part. The student ID's are scanned when they enter the stadium, so in essence, the athletic department has a list which contains the name of every student in attendance. In the second half select 100 random student names from attendees, post their names on the jumbotron, and give them $50.00 each. I guarantee that about every student in the parking lot will want to make sure that his/her ID is scanned by entering the stadium.
  11. I agree. The season is over as far as ability to be successful, and considering the injury situation, there's not much chance that North Texas will be competitive in many of the remaining games. That being said, I will continue to have a great time cheering for North Texas and whomever is leading our team through the end of the season.
  12. There is something to lose at this point.....the fan base. The sixth loss will surely come soon enough, an announcement can be made, and the job opening can then be posted. Let Coach Dodge finish the remainder of this season while the new coach is being found. It would be very hard to make offers to potential replacements if North Texas needs to wait until the end of the season to see how an interim coach performs. Likewise, considering recent futility, it would be incredibly difficult to interest the public by permanently promoting anyone from within this staff to head coach. The fans need to see that there is actual change, something promising marked success, not just possible improvement from existing components. I am not saying that we do not have quality assistant coaches, we do. What I am saying is that their chances of being retained should be in the hands of the new coach.
  13. I may be the exception, but I do believe that Dodge will get seven or more wins before the season is done. It's the forty something losses that will be the hard part to take. Folks, that game came and went this past week. Now it's just a morbid game of Four-Little-Indians until something official can be announced, then Dodge can coach the remainder of the season before resigning and handing the reins to the new coach.
  14. What? No Major Applepie? He's a former UT quarterback, just think of the recruiting advantage we'd have from his name recognition? Maybe his kid Minor Applepie could be our starting quarterback?
  15. Ah, so this really is a knit picking thread....... OK, after a little sole searching, here's mine. We finally get the SOW on the uniforms, and, it's on the bottom of the cleats.
  16. I go to a few SMU games every season and Ford really is a nice venue, but it doesn't compare favorably with what is being built at North Texas. Both stadiums have the lower bowl dug down to lower their profile. North Texas has an all concrete structure for the seats not in the lower bowl while SMU's above ground components are a simple metal erector-set construction with an external brick facade, much like MTSU's east stands but with brick accents. UNT's only steel frame construction is the elevated vee shaped end zone seating, and that section is designed to be easily eliminated during future stadium expansion. Still, both stadium designs are very nice and should serve their purpose well for decades.
  17. Thank you Nathan Tune for what you gave to University of North Texas football. You displayed incredible dedication and courage throughout your playing career here.
  18. I watched quite a bit of the game. Rice played extremely well and gave Texas a lot more of a fight than they were expecting.
  19. The Utah State board is now reporting that the whole saga still isn't over: Utah State Scout message board USU has grand aspirations of being BYU's perpetual subservient fluffer, ala Baylor to Texas. Hopefully it all winds up being bad news for them, and they wind up destroyed and forced back to the Big Sky.
  20. I disagree. Under normal situations this may be correct, but these are extraordinary circumstances. We have a coach that has had nothing except three miserable seasons at North Texas that has been challenged to win this year or be cut loose. He has to win at least six games, probably seven to retain his job. I think this is very generous on the part of Rick V as I believe very few AD's would have given a coach a fourth season to show improvement. Why have the short list? Rick Villarreal has to be prepared to do what's best for North Texas. If North Texas starts the season 2-6, you need to be able to then announce that a change will be made at the end of the season and post the position. Remember, that the position needs to posted for a full month before Rick can officially offer it to somebody, and we would want that coach to be hired immediately after the season. That way the new coach could evaluate current players and coaches before assembling his staff and starting recruiting. All this said, I hope the short list isn't needed as I hope Todd Dodge achieves the success at North Texas that I believe he's capable of attaining.
  21. Doesn't North Texas already have a game scheduled for the opening week of the 2011 season? Future Football Schedules
  22. I don't. I have seen the overwhelming majority of these "opportunity games" over the past three decades. They almost always bring embarrassment to the university. I hope that they now will become a thing of the past. It would be nice to see North Texas only schedule games with schools that will play home-and-home series. Maybe make exceptions for a 2-for-1 series with schools like Texas, A&M, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, but never again selling off games like has happened in the past. The students at North Texas are investing too much to have somebody bleed the program for extra dollars by selling "opportunity games".
  23. Would this somehow affect all those at-large bids that we have been receiving to the NCAA Tournament? Face facts here, those bids will only come into consideration if we upset some of those Big 6 schools on our schedule. Winning games against Divison III or very bad Division 1 would have no bearing.
