CUSA Expansion Poll listing North Texas as potential candidate It's typical off-season stuff, but the thread on the CUSA board does give a little insight into what some of the CUSA fans consider to be important membership criteria if expansion was ever required.

Played Ball With Tony Mitchell Last Night
ADLER replied to sparkmank's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm sure that he'll be there. -
In his defense, it was after a missed second shot. Unfortunately, the shooter had been fouled while shooting a three. The pump-you-up muscle flex accompanied by the loud groan afterward are what made it so comical. The refs were practically dying, they were wiping tears from their eyes as they returned the ball to the foul shooter.

The Vitomeister.......................... Breaking stories......................... ________ Great job Brett

Why should SMU be crying? They've put together an outstanding signing class themselves, especially when you add their recent transfer from Texas.

Go to Vito's Blog: Huge basketball news Star basketball player Tony Mitchell from Pinkston is enrolling at North Texas.

Tomorrow Could Be A Very Good Day In Unt Land
ADLER replied to Adub4ever's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Better than a female extraterrestrial? Wild guess here..............home & home football games with TCU over the next two seasons. -
Brilliant ideas!!! I love this alignment. It drastically cuts travel costs for conference games. It encourages fan travel, especially to some interesting destinations. It increases our exposure in markets not only where we recruit athletes, but also where we recruit students. The added markets will increase television value. And as a side benefit, it blocks Benson from raising Lamar, SHSU, SFA, and every other current FCS Southland school to the FBS.

I believe it's all on the 2004 Highlight DVD. That game, at least the first half, was amazing. All the Colorado fans were talking beforehand about how they had the #1 rushing defense in the country, and how North Texas would likely have negative rushing yardage. North Texas then returns the opening kickoff to the 42, and on the first play from scrimmage Jamario breaks through the line, evades a linebacker, and then hurdles a defensive back before sprinting alone to the end zone. The Colorado fans were in shock. North Texas was later up 14-7 and driving for another score when our tight end fumbled at the two yard line while fighting to get into the end zone.

That picture is from the annual Forney vs Decatur grudgematch. This year Grant Shaw was crowned King Forney-catur, and the girl was presented to him as a sacrifice.

Plumm, would you please send me this if there is a point hidden in there somewhere.

Texas State - Moving up from 1AA Texas - San Antonio - Plans on adding football Denver - Doesn't plan on adding football Louisiana Tech - One of the three tiniest athletic budgets in 1A, and facing spending cuts New Mexico State - Averaged less than 15,000 most seasons this past decade Utah State - Averaged less than 15,000 most seasons this past decade San Jose State - Averaged less than 15,000 most seasons this past decade Idaho - Averaged less than 15,000 most seasons this past decade, and doesn't have a stadium Actually, that alignment still just may work. It's a really, really long shot, but all Benson needs is a firm commitment from both the Big East and the Mountain West that they will not add any new members by 2013. Expansion by those leagues, which is expected, will probably reduce the WAC by two members, possibly three. At that point there can no longer even be a WAC because it will be impossible to bring up new 1AA schools. Believe it or not, I do want what's best for Texas State and UTSA, but I don't see the WAC as being a viable option. .

I guess that I am one of the few people that agree that the Denia residents, and the tens of thousands of people that will soon be living in southern Denton, are going to be adversely affected by this mess. This isn't going to be something that inconveniences people 6 days a year for football games, or an additional 30 days a year once a baseball stadium is built. This is something that will impact these Denton residential neighborhoods every day of the year. Where we differ is that I don't believe the university is the evil monster that these protesters make it out to be, and if anything, North Texas is more a victim of Denton's poor planning than these residents. Denia residents don't want a game-day traffic jam clogging up their neighborhood. Interesting tidbit: I don't think too many North Texas fans look forward to sitting in congested traffic in Denia either. Why will stadium traffic even have to exist in Denia? The answer is intentional poor planning by the city of Denton. Did anybody notice that the City of Denton has three separate plans for routing Bonnie Brae, but only south of Willowwood Street, essentially stating that they'll spend our money anywhere other than where it's needed most; routing the section of Bonnie Brae north of Willowwood around the west side of the UNT athletic complex between the railroad tracks and I-35W with and entrance ramp to I-35W along that stretch. This "we're not concerned about the needs of UNT" policy that the City of Denton implements are not doing it's residents any favors. The only way to keep people from using Denia as a shortcut is to make it more time efficient to enter and exit the stadium through non-residential avenues. The only way to not clutter a major artery to southern Denton is to not force it directly though an athletic / student housing complex filled with event traffic, pedestrians, and 20 MPH speed zones.

Congrats To Tcu, 13-0, Co-National Champions
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
You are proving the point that you are trying to dismiss. TCU is worthy of being called National Champions, and whoever wins the BCS championship is also entitled to be called National Champions as well as BCS Champions. -
Good, he is giving the new coach at Blinn a chance to get settled and start recruiting. What, Brad Franchione has stated several times that he'd like to be Defensive Coordinator on one of his father's staffs? What, Dennis Franchione has been the rumored front-runner for the Texas State head coaching job? What, Dennis Franchione was under contract from A&M through the end of the 2010 calendar year and would have to partially reimburse A&M if he accepted a coaching job before 2011? What, today is the first business day of 2011? All these coincidences? I wonder what they could possibly mean?

Congrats To Tcu, 13-0, Co-National Champions
ADLER replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Congratulations to TCU and it's fans. I too see this as a National Championship for TCU, or at least a Co-Championship along with the winner of the BCS Championship Game. TCU has been at a level of excellence over the past several years that certainly entitles them to be eligible for championship consideration regardless of conference afiliation. Not being invited to the BCS Championship did not mean they were not worthy. -
I share the residents concerns. The problem is not with the residents or the university or even with all the proposed new development, the problem is with a city that continues to be inattentive and refuses to address the issue other than by proposing to someday place an obsolete band-aid on this. The best way to solve a problem is to anticipate the issue and correct it before it ever becomes a problem. An ounce of prevention...... First, please look at the Google Map of stadium area Re-route Bonnie Brae from where it currently intersects Airport Road to parallel I-35W on the other side of the railroad tracks and then reattach to it's current route south of the railroad tracks past Willowwood. Bonnie Brae will be a primary traffic artery for residents of all the new developments being built in southern Denton between Denia and the Denton Country Club. Why on Earth would you want to route all those people though the center of a pedestrian laden campus, through 20 MPH speed zones and the resulting speed traps, and creating additional hazards by placing a four lane through-way between athletic facilities and the rehabilitation facilities. I'm sorry to say this, but the city's current proposed route is not only inefficient, but unnecessarily dangerous. Place stadium parking in all the fields along Bonnie Brae on the other side of the railroad tracks and create a pedestrian tunnel under the tracks right by the soccer, softball, and future baseball facility. Create a two lane wide entrance ramp from Bonnie Brae onto northbound I-35W. This will incredibly alleviate traffic congestion by quickly releasing a large portion of the traffic out of the event areas. This will also help relieve the daily strain that the growing residential campus already has on traffic. Seriously, if the proper street improvements are made, why would anybody want to cut through the Denia neighborhood on gameday.

Starting in 2011, FIU will not schedule any IA team unless it is a home and home deal. Is there something that we need to learn from their example?
-
I would push for immediate admission of UTSA and Texas State to the Sun Belt if all our away games at Texas State could be played there during Wurstfest and all our games in San Antonio could be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If the two schools are ever admitted to the Sun Belt, I believe that those two weekends should always have to be reserved for them to play home games against regional conference teams that will travel to those events. I'd take those two schools as OOC games right now if we could be guaranteed those two weekends.

Yeah, it's the CB radio of the 90's. Right good buddy?
-
Everything about this game is total BS. Has the White team ever been the home team in this series? No! Why does the Green team get to play at home every single year? Frankly, I am tired of the White team always having to load their schedule with these body bag games. True Division 1 programs just don't do that!

I want you guys to decide for yourselves the validity of the LSU fans statements. Johnny Jones was an assistant on Dale Browns staff when they were recruiting Baton Rouge superstar basketball player Lester Earl. Kansas was also heavily recruiting the 6-9 player that was the unanimous Louisiana 'Mr Basketball" in 1996. Earl signed with LSU. Kansas was not though recruiting, Earl hired Earl's father and suddenly Earl wanted out of his LSU commitment but LSU wouldnt release him. Earl only lasted a dozen games at LSU before he was suspended from playing by Coach Brown. He announced that he was going to quit and that he would transfer to Kansas. Then came the allegations. Per Wikipedia:

I know you guys are joking around, but I do think that North Texas should refuse to play against any school that will not schedule the games home-and home. The students of North Texas invest too much of their money to have the athletic department pad the budget by continuously scheduling embarrassing body bag games. Real division 1 programs do not sell games to the highest bidder. Real division 1 programs create the best possible product for their customers, then manage and promote the accordingly. Customer loyalty will develop.

Speaking of that SMU game, I love this quote from a post on the Pony basketball board: By the way, SMU officially reported the attendance as 1422. I wonder how many people are actually going to show for this coming week's game against Dallas Christian College. They will likely report over 1400 again, but there will probably be less than a hundred actually in attendance.
