  1. Tulsa 38 North Texas 17 I hope I am wrong, but I predict the game will be won in the trenches. Tulsa has a huge, foul tempered offensive line that can dominate the line of scrimmage.
  2. I'll be there, bringing the Bride and kids.
  3. Going to the Tulsa game but planning on taking the Bride and the kids, and staying Saturday night in Tulsa.
  4. University of New Mexico sports are typically abysmal unless cheating is involved, but the university has a history of turning a blind eye towards violations. Dave Bliss was discovered to have been paying players from a slush fund at SMU prior to being hired at New Mexico. He stayed at New Mexico for 11 years and is the school's all-time winningest coach. Under Bliss, the Lobos went to seven NCAA tournaments, and notched the only four NCAA tournament wins in school history. Baylor subsequently hired Dave Bliss, and after Baylor's unofficial policies resulted in a player's death, it was revealed that Bliss had been paying players from a slush fund at Baylor.
  5. It's an NCAA rule. I think the referees issue one warning and any subsequent abuse is a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That being said, the South Florida band blasted their instruments wildly whenever North Texas had an important play in the 2001 game and never received a warning or penalty.
  6. It went 12 yards. All his teammates ran passed the rolling ball and blocked the North Texas players. It's a great play if you can catch the opponent sleeping.
  7. First, I thought that the Brigade was incredible at last night's game. Second, I am all for the Brigade wearing uniforms, but only if they have something that is weather appropriate. Until then, the tee shirts and shorts are best for hot days.
  8. Yes, Happy Birthday Mean Joe Greene! We certainly appreciate everything that you and your family have done for The University of North Texas.
  9. Coach Bower is a very close friend to several people in our athletic department and was potentially a candidate in our most recent coaching search. From EagleRockCafe on the CUSA board:
  10. Perfect football weather. We may even need long sleeves, and my kids will probably need blankets to deal with these arctic conditions.
  11. Funny, I think the feeling is mutual.
  12. Why would there be any rule against it? I am not suggesting that it be sold at concessions as that is a whole different issue. I am proposing that there be a large area for a philanthropy, like The Deck was at Fouts, where patrons can either buy annual or single day membership which entitles them to purchase coupons that they can exchange for beverages.
  13. That's the point. There a limited number of people that invest in the club level seating, and because of that substantial investment they do deserve to have exclusive benefits. This Alumni Association Beer Garden proposal is to enhance the gameday experience for the multitudes of people sitting in the lower levels, entice them to stay at the games instead of bolting, and get them to support a philanthropy that benefits the university and it's athletic department.
  14. What would be more successful, entice then into joining, or guilt them into joining? Thank you for playing the Michael Spinks role in this discussion.
  15. There were a few minor complaints at the first game regarding fans not caring for the no re-entry rule, and their inability to grab a beer during halftime. I had pitched out the idea of having a huge Alumni Association Beer Garden by reconfiguring the fencing around the alumni pavilion from pre-game activities to halftime festivities. Here's the idea, roughly based on what another college with the no reentry rule currently does. The North Texas Alumni Association Pavilion would have a very large fenced area with lots of tables only open to the outside during pregame, and with access only to and from the stadium during halftime. During halftime Alumni Association members are admitted for free and receive one complimentary beer ticket, all others (21 and over) pay $5.00 for entry and receive one complimentary beer ticket. Additional beer tickets are sold at a very reasonable price to entice people to want to keep coming back and to hopefully join the alumni association. We need to grow our alumni association for the university's efforts to attain Tier 1 status, and this is just one idea on how to attain that goal.
  16. My dream? Yeah, I'm all alone. I'm rolling a big doughnut and this snake wearing a vest... Without Googling that,....what's it from?
  17. It was presented by UT before A&M bolted that they could rename it the Lone Star Network and show colleges other than Texas. I know UTSA games are going to bee shown on the network and there were plans to show some of UT's Big Twelve minions as well. Why don't they just change it to Lone Star Network?
  18. UNM Lobo Lair on Henry Henry's Twitter - this appears to be updated every few minutes with new posts. Alford hinted to alumni about a month ago that they may be steering Henry the prep school route. Henry wanted to play back home in Cali-Cali and Alford arranged it.
  19. There are certainly procedures and policies that are going to be reviewed, and possibly modified. Please remember that security was extra tight with this being the tenth anniversary of 9-11. Can the stadium fenceline be modified to include the alumni pavilion during the games? Sure, why not? It would improve the gameday experience for fans and increase the incentive for our alumni to join the alumni association. Why can't that whole northern patio become a giant Alumni Association Beer Garden during halftime? There shouldn't be an NCAA issue as long as fans are restricted from carrying their beer back into the stadium.
  20. Easy answer: plastic megaphones. These are very inexpensive, especially if ordered without custom printing. Buy 8000 of these and place them on every student section seat. The students will quickly realize that their involvement can alter the games. They're much more effective than free pom-poms or bandanas.
  21. Great first post ahmo05, and welcome to the board. I like your idea of keeping the North Texas reserved season ticket sections reserved for North Texas fans. This was only the first game at Apogee and hopefully adjustments will be made to the seating allocation. I had a similar experience several years ago at the Super Pit when I had basketball season tickets in the 'family section'. Oklahoma State had sold their regular allotment and subsequent OSU orders were filled in our family section. We were surrounded on all sides by OSU fans, many quite vocal about the perceived intense vacuum pressure properties of North Texas, and frankly I wasn't comfortable with my small children being forced into this situation. Every other school puts the overflow visitors in the upper levels, but for some reason we pander to them. Thankfully, we won that game by a dozen, but we subsequently cancelled our season tickets in the family section and since just buy walk-up tickets for the games that we'll attend. The end result is that we attend far less games because excuses are simply a lot easier to conceive when you haven't paid for the tickets in advance.
  22. Definitely an antisocial type. Woof, woof, woof! That's my other dog imitation.
  23. Sadly, I think very few will.
  24. Don't hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning. Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves. Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
  25. Those gaudy uniforms are incredible only because their heraldry is derived from their history.
