  3. Hopefully they had the foresight to put the game on the two big screens in the banquet room. I can only imagine the epic clusterfudge that would occur if a couple hundred people showed up to watch the game anywhere else in that building. There's an opportunity here for the alumni association to do somthing really great that would show people a reason to get involved.
  4. DePaul Scout message board: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=430&f=2585&t=10184089 I wish for nothing but the best for Forrest at DePaul, especially twice a year.
  5. It would be a huge victory for North Texas but Creighton, as great as they are, are still fighting for national name recognition.
  6. Biggest Win Ever. So big, in fact, that LSU should immediately fire Johnny Jones! In all seriousness, Creighton is an outstanding team and I'd be thrilled by a victory, but as good as they are, a lot of the casual sports fans in Texas are only awed by the Big Twelve schools and traditional powers like UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
  7. the "George" Test - First full-scale thermonuclear bomb test. The vast majority of its yield derived from fission. The energy output from the thermonuclear fusion in this test was insignificant in comparison.
  8. It's a law of our universe: Close only counts in Horse Shoes, Hand Grenades, and Longhorn Touchdowns. The referee signaled touchdown even though he couldn't see how far the ball advanced. The ball was loose until an OSU player picks it up. Yet the Big 12 would not review the play because "it wasn't clear which players may have gained possession during the scrum." What???
  9. Simple, you build your fan base and sell tickets to home games. The first step in building your fan base is eliminating the payday automatic loss games that cause your team to start 1 and 3 or worse every single year. It's not instantaneous gratification like the paycheck from a game, but long term it's the more sound method.
  10. The first and most important step is to eliminate the roadblocks that destroy every season; paycheck games to Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, LSU, etc. We can fib and call them opportunity games or whatever, but those games and the ensuing 1 and 3 (or worse) starts every year taint each season, and eventually the whole program. North Texas hasn't had an average (2 and 2 against Div 1 teams) start to a season since 1980. That's a very long time with 1 and 3 or worse starts. It makes it extremely difficult for fans to be excited about the remaining games. Each season may be viewed as salvageable but that's hardly anything to get excited about. Stop that predetermined losing and fan support and recruiting will rapidly improve.
  11. The complete offensive explosion of forward Doug McDermott had much to do with the Bluejays' scorching offensive work. After a good freshman season, McDermott went nuts, well, brace yourself for numbers: He averaged 22.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game on 48.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 63.2 percent shooting inside it. His effective field goal percentage (65.4) and true shooting percentage (67.8) were the sixth- and third-best in the country, respectively. McDermott took (get this) 33.3 percent of his team's available shots, but that didn't hurt his efficiency one lick: He still put up a 123.5 offensive rating, second-best (behind Weber State's Damian Lillard) of any player in the country with a usage rate higher than 28 percent. [+] Enlarge He was, in a word, crazy good. All right, that's two words. Whatever. You get the point. (The point is that Doug McDermott gets buckets. You did get that, right?) 12. I have been to one of Dan McCarney's road games when he was coaching at Iowa State and sat adjacent to the Iowa State section. After the game the Cyclones team, led by Coach McCarney, assembled in front of their fans, held out their helmets in front of them and sang their alma mater. I remembered the stark contrast to Dickey's teams that had never shown gratitude to the fans that traveled to support them and and how they simply bolted to the locker room after each game.
  13. It's my understanding that as a cost saving measure they have been testing the referee's microphone system by using it during the coach's shows on Mondays. Some bailing wire and duct tape just may fix it.
  14. I am not overly concerned with which players start. This whole roster is extremely talented and will be a one-two punch to the opponent when the non-starters enter the game.
  15. There's another D1 school in Texas that hasn't released its schedule. Coincidence, I think not. This other Texas school was was looking for a home and home starting on the road this season. They then added the stipulation that it would only be a road game if it were at a BCS AQ school (basketball BCS AQ?). The terror caused by the thought of getting destroyed at North Texas caused their team to mutiny and the coach to commit himself to the looney bin and quit.
  16. I have never purchased tickets through StubHub, but they are advertising discounted tickets for the North Texas game. http://www.stubhub.c...6-2012-4081385/ Discount tickets and parking passes are also being sold through Ticket Liquidator http://www.ticketliq...x?evtid=1886486 VividSeats http://www.vividseats.com/ncaaf/houston-cougars-tickets/houston-vs-north-texas-10-6-1285764.html
  17. I'm with Baby Arm on this. Make this an annual rivalry, and even try to schedule the road games at Texas State during Wurstfest. I would go so far as for each college to include free admission for students of the visiting school. That would boost attendance, still make money from parking and concessions, and forge a stronger school unity as the students travel to support their schools.
  18. And I thought it was going to be the basketball schedule.
  19. I too appreciate the student involvement, because, well, it could be much much worse. Home opener, perfect weather, the officially reported pretendance at SMU was in excess of 20,000. There must have been a lot of people in the bathrooms.
  20. That's how I felt as well. The Ocean was a nice change of pace and very entertaining. I am already looking forward to The MOB coming to North Texas every other year.
  21. Thanks so much for the report Sparkmank, Like everybody else I am excited to hear about the advancements that our younger players are making, but I especially am grateful to you for reporting on those outstanding upperclassmen that, though sometimes overlooked, are going to be so heavily relied upon this coming season. 22. Cmon Tech, don't be such Panty Wastes! Look, you need a road game for December 3 or 4 and North Texas needs a home game for that time and will travel to Lubbock next year. Accept the challenge and don't be such chicken____s!
  23. So, that's why Lance's knees didn't touch the ground, and probably why the referee that made the call didn't elaborate.
  24. Here a quote from the TigerDroppings page
  25. The problem with moving the game to Shreveport is that it is the primary destination point up I-49 for Louisianans on the Storm Evacuation Route. Shreveport (which may also receive heavy flooding) could be filled next weekend with storm refugees as this storm is predicted to possibly blast along the La-Tex border. Many of them may not be cleared to return to coastal regions for several days. Here's a current forecast model Wednesday:Noon
