Huh, it's an interesting concept, a new radio feature production of Dude, Where's My Microphone?

Breaking news — Asst. Bart Lundy leaving staff
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"Lundy has four children ages 8 to 16 who live just over an hour away from The Queens" It sounds like he is departing for four really good reasons. Congrats on the opportunity Coach Lundy. We appeciate your time here and wish you nothing but the best in your new endeavor. -
Is LeBron the greatest ever
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Is LeBron the greatest ever? No, not close. Not even close to being close. LeBron is an extremely talented player and may possibly eventually rank up there with the top second teir players like Magic, Bird, Erving, Hakeem, Jordan, Oscar, and Kareem, but he is nowhere near that level at this stage in his career. The Greatest Ever debate is reserved for those freaks of nature that changed the NBA game the moment they stepped onto the court. Shaq and Wilt. The candidate list ends there. -
Of course it's up to the other members of the conference, but CUSA would be better for North Texas and the other western division schools if both Arkansas State and Louisiana were to join. The two 8 team divisions would nurture close rivalries, the value of which would more than offset any possible conference distribution reductions.

Tony 'Neutron' Benford. Only he could destroy something so quickly.

First choice - Louisiana . Slam dunk, and it's not even close. The Cajuns are established long term in 1A unlike every other viable candidate. The Cajuns have by far the best fan support. The Cajuns have a media market that places them as one of the top teams followed. The residents of the 500K Acadiana region, even many who also follow LSU, identify themselves as Cajuns. I'm shocked that Louisiana has not been selected before any, or all, of the current CUSA additions. Arkansas State would be my next selection. This may be a hard sell with several CUSA members because of limited market but Arkansas State has been making strides in recent seasons forging an identity. If this school had chosen Arkies (a goofy regional nickname ala Hoosiers, Jayhawks, Sooners, Tarheels, Vols, Cajuns, Buckeyes) instead of Red Wolves when they were forced to replace Indians, they would have received a lot more statewide following and could have avoided the whole 'small town / no market' tag. Huge opportunity missed. NMSU, no way. If UTEP doesn't want them then there is absolutely no reason to consider them. If UTEP were to leave CUSA then NMSU is even more geographically undesirable. Texas State - I really like this school as a potential rivalry but also think there are too many schools in CUSA that would oppose their admission, at least at this time. The non-Texas CUSA schools are wary of too many Texas schools being added, and UTSA has been campaigning to distance themselves from what was very recently referred to as their 'Texas Twin'. I would love to see North Texas sign a long term home-and-home contract with this school. Each school should allow free entrance for visiting students. Instant rivalry. WKY just finished their best football season, and it will likely forever remain their best ever, yet they garnered very little interest outside the Bowling Green community. It would always be a challenge to sell tickets for this game.

Hey, it could have been worse, much worse. SELa's top rebounder and 3rd leading scorer left the game with an injury 2 minutes after the game started.

Hopefully they had the foresight to put the game on the two big screens in the banquet room. I can only imagine the epic clusterfudge that would occur if a couple hundred people showed up to watch the game anywhere else in that building. There's an opportunity here for the alumni association to do somthing really great that would show people a reason to get involved.

Where would a win over Creighton rank in UNT Basketball history?
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It would be a huge victory for North Texas but Creighton, as great as they are, are still fighting for national name recognition. -

Biggest Win Ever. So big, in fact, that LSU should immediately fire Johnny Jones! In all seriousness, Creighton is an outstanding team and I'd be thrilled by a victory, but as good as they are, a lot of the casual sports fans in Texas are only awed by the Big Twelve schools and traditional powers like UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina. -

remember that OU game we lost during the Dodge era
ADLER replied to outoftown's topic in Mean Green Football
It's a law of our universe: Close only counts in Horse Shoes, Hand Grenades, and Longhorn Touchdowns. The referee signaled touchdown even though he couldn't see how far the ball advanced. The ball was loose until an OSU player picks it up. Yet the Big 12 would not review the play because "it wasn't clear which players may have gained possession during the scrum." What??? -
Simple, you build your fan base and sell tickets to home games. The first step in building your fan base is eliminating the payday automatic loss games that cause your team to start 1 and 3 or worse every single year. It's not instantaneous gratification like the paycheck from a game, but long term it's the more sound method.
-
The first and most important step is to eliminate the roadblocks that destroy every season; paycheck games to Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, LSU, etc. We can fib and call them opportunity games or whatever, but those games and the ensuing 1 and 3 (or worse) starts every year taint each season, and eventually the whole program. North Texas hasn't had an average (2 and 2 against Div 1 teams) start to a season since 1980. That's a very long time with 1 and 3 or worse starts. It makes it extremely difficult for fans to be excited about the remaining games. Each season may be viewed as salvageable but that's hardly anything to get excited about. Stop that predetermined losing and fan support and recruiting will rapidly improve.

The complete offensive explosion of forward Doug McDermott had much to do with the Bluejays' scorching offensive work. After a good freshman season, McDermott went nuts, well, brace yourself for numbers: He averaged 22.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game on 48.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 63.2 percent shooting inside it. His effective field goal percentage (65.4) and true shooting percentage (67.8) were the sixth- and third-best in the country, respectively. McDermott took (get this) 33.3 percent of his team's available shots, but that didn't hurt his efficiency one lick: He still put up a 123.5 offensive rating, second-best (behind Weber State's Damian Lillard) of any player in the country with a usage rate higher than 28 percent. [+] Enlarge He was, in a word, crazy good. All right, that's two words. Whatever. You get the point. (The point is that Doug McDermott gets buckets. You did get that, right?) I have been to one of Dan McCarney's road games when he was coaching at Iowa State and sat adjacent to the Iowa State section. After the game the Cyclones team, led by Coach McCarney, assembled in front of their fans, held out their helmets in front of them and sang their alma mater. I remembered the stark contrast to Dickey's teams that had never shown gratitude to the fans that traveled to support them and and how they simply bolted to the locker room after each game.

It's my understanding that as a cost saving measure they have been testing the referee's microphone system by using it during the coach's shows on Mondays. Some bailing wire and duct tape just may fix it.
