  1. Way to go Jayson! I love the stories of students that meet obvious challanges head-on and play just for the love of the game. I can't cheer for you Thursday night, but I'll be cheering for you every other game you play.
  2. Without help, the Heart of Dallas Bowl is our likely destination. If we lose to Rice we are out of the CUSA Western Division race but will still get bowl eligible and play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. If we beat Rice, then the winner of the Rice-Tulane game will likely represent the Western Division in the CUSA Championship if they each run the table in their remaining CUSA games. If Tulane wins against Rice then North Texas sits alone in second place in CUSA-West and Rice is in third place with two conference losses. If Rice wins against Tulane, it creates a three way tie for CUSA-West, and Rice goes the the CUSA championship to play the winner of ECU and Marshall. If that happens, Rice, Tulane, North Texas, and the lone one loss CUSA-East rep would all be CUSA Champions. Conference USA led in the formation of the Heart of Dallas Bowl, manages it from their Irving offices, and has a vested interest in it having the largest attendance possible. Other than the winner of the CUSA Championship game which automatically goes to the Liberty Bowl, Conference USA works with the bowl committees to slot the remaining bowl eligible CUSA teams into their bowls. One school, North Texas is an almost automatic pick for the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The schools departing for the AAC have reduced influence with the CUSA office and will likely get relegated to later selection. About the only way that North Texas does not go to the Heart of Dallas is if we qualify for the CUSA Championship Game, win that, and go to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. And either of those two destinations would be great for North Texas!
  3. Sorry, not even remotely interested in that worst case scenario.
  4. There will be a whole lot more than 30 thousand North Texas fans if we play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
  5. Tulane has precious little say in where they play a bowl game if they don't outright win the conference. Remember when Cincinnati won the CUSA in 2002? Well, they were actually tied with TCU for the conference championship but Cincinnati had the edge because they had beaten TCU on the field. CUSA awarded the spot to TCU in the Liberty Bowl anyway, and Cincinnati was relegated to last selection of bowl games, and would up having to play Sun Belt representative North Texas in th second year of the fledgling New Orleans Bowl. Why did that happen? Cincinnati had already contracted to leave CUSA and therefore had no say where the conference sent them. Sooner or later Tulane is going to wake up and smell the Kona coffee, Aloha!!!
  6. Apogee to USM Stadium .... 7 hours 40 minute drive each way. Game starts at 6:00 Central Time. It's not too close, but I'd hate to miss it.
  7. Think about it this way. Out of town alumni could come for the athletic department and alumni association parties at the West End, celebrate New Years, stay at the downtown hotels, and take the Dart train to the Heart of Dallas Bowl in the Cotton Bowl to compete in what would essentially be a home game against a storied school from the Big Ten. That's an incredible holiday event, and all on a very reasonable budget.
  8. The Heart of Dallas Bowl is the most visible in our recruiting territory and most of our recruits will be in attendance. The Heart of Dallas Bowl is accessible to all of our local alumni. No need for travel or expensive hotels. Many that have not watched the Mean Green in years/decades will be enticed to come to this game. The Heart of Dallas Bowl is on January 1, 2014 giving our team a whole additional month of practice time, valuable time for developing players that will replace the departing seniors. The Heart of Dallas Bowl will be extremely cost effective for North Texas, providing additional revenue to invest in our programs. The Dallas West End will be an outstanding local for a Mean Green New Year's Eve Party the night before the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
  9. Of corse many of the starters were Dodge recruits, they're 4th and 5th year players and they are very experienced. Also to Mac's credit then is that he was able to win with players that he inherited. None of this "wait until he gets all his own recruits" crap.
  10. Mac was hired to come in here and right a ship that had been floundering aimlessly for almost a decade. He's done it, and he's done it the right way, by bringing in a qualified staff, by tirelessly promoting, and by recruiting athletes with quality academics as well as athletic ability. I don't know the schedule for offering extensions but it's almost a foregone conclusion that an extension is Mac's for the taking. Right now it is just a matter of when, as a bowl would certainly enhance his negotiating position.
  11. THE HEART OF DALLAS BOWL!!! Especially if we get to play IOWA. Great stories from both sides involving our current and former coach. And, we make a huge statement in our own market concerning fan support.
  12. The Baylor campus is 100 miles from Dallas and 100 miles from Austin and clearly is not in either metropolitan area. Waco has it's own tv and radio channels which none can be received in DFW or Austin, and those cities media cannot be received in Waco.
  13. No news of the injury or who was injured, but Denton County Scanner is reporting that a traumatic injury occurred at the "practice field next to Fouts, behind the Beer Barn". Student rushed to hospital. Sounds like it may have been an intramural game injury.
  14. Poor O'neil Peterson, star quarterback from Ennis that last minute changed his commitment from North Texas to La Tech. According to his cousin, Peterson's switching his commitment to La Tech was the biggest mistake that he'd made in his life.
  15. Make sure that you are driving at a reasonable speed. Louisiana vehicles have no front license plates making it easy for the Louisiana Highway Patrol to target Texas cars.
  16. North Texas lost by a field goal in overtime. North Texas won the overtime coin flip, and Corky who was unfamiliar with the 1AA overtime rules replied "Hell yes we want the ball first". North Texas made one first down but then fumbled when pushing for the touchdown. Nevada's star kicker Tony Zendejas then trotted on the field and simply kicked a short field goal to win the game. And that suddenly, a great season was shockingly ended.
  17. I was kinda shocked to hear that it still plays at Fouts during our Apogee games.
  18. I too agree with Harry. YALLS vs YATS BRING IT ON!
  19. Jacob was substitute teaching Social Studies and Political Science at my daughter's Jr High in Flower Mound this past week. He wore his North Texas Basketball shirt on Friday and reminded all the students to try to make a few games this season. The students really liked him.
  20. Thanks. I just think we're looking at a real opportunity and would hate to miss it. There are several games left this season, the team is doing well, and attendance should be strong at the remaining games. This could be an ideal time to establish the postgame tradition at the Alumni Pavilion. The first home game of next season is SMU. There will be many North Texas alumni on campus that haven't been involved in years. That game should be an outstanding display of school spirit. If all goes well on the field as I hope, there will be a lot of alumni anxious to rekindle their relationship with their university through the alunmi assocoation and the Mean Green Club. SilverEagle, on 25 Sept 2013 - 10:11 AM, said: I just didn't know if waiting until that situation would be the ideal setting for a trial run for these events.
  21. I think the postgame tailgating could be a real selling point for the alumni association. I'll even be willing to cover the costs for the first keg of beer. Kram, would it be possible for this to start this season?
  22. Christopher? Kram? I think these are legitimate questions, and I agree that it seems like a great idea to start this season, even if for nothing more than preparing for next season. Is it posible for this season? If it's not, is there anything that we could do to help make it possible?
  23. I agree that he's probably too small to play quarterback on a full-time basis, at least at the D1 level, but the kid is an amazing athlete and I hope we go after him as a receiver and wildcat quarterback.
  24. Is anyone really that concerned about UTSA? Of course I'd like the Mean Green to beat them just like I would with any other opponent, but I also am happy for the early success that UTSA has earned. Hopefully both programs continue to improve and this series can become a noteworthy rivalry.
  25. I talked with Mark M recently about the possibility of opening up the Alumni Pavilion at the end of games. Fans could go there, have a beer or two, and celebrate / commiserate while listening to the George and Hank doing the KNTU postgame show and watch the days college game highlights. Another posibility would be to ask Evan, Harry and guests do their GoMeanGreen.Com postgame show live at the pavilion after the KNTU postgame show ends. Mark said that it was entirely possible for the future, maybe next year, that there would be minimal costs other than the required licensed beer servers, and that even modest beer sales would cover that. His only question was if this would actually be something that the fans would be interested in, and if it would create additional incentive for fans to join the alumni association. My thought was that events like this provide tangible benefits for current alumni association members as well as being an excellent way to involve potential members. What are your thoughts or ideas on this subject?
