  1. About 16 years ago North Texas signed another big quarterback like this who had played at Llano High school. If I remember correctly, he never threw a pass or even took a single snap his entire career at North Texas. He did develop into a pretty solid linebacker though, twice being team MVP, conference MVP, and then played 6 years in the NFL with the Titans and the Jets. That former quarterback, Brad Kassell, was inducted into the North Texas Hall of Fame in 2008.
  2. I don't know if UTSA will go bowling his year, but I sure hope they do. It would be good for us because it not only raises the regional perception of our conference, but it also financially benefits the entire conference in bowl game revenue distributions. The message board banter leading up to the game is fun and all, but we should want nothing but the best for our conference mates once the game is over.
  3. We needed one loss to be eligibe to receive an invitation to the Heart of Dallas Bowl instead of getting locked into the Liberty Bowl. As much as I hate to lose any game, this is better than the interuptions caused by a December 7 trip to Greenbough, NC and having to lose there to avoid the Liberty. We are now on course for a New Years Day date in the Heart of Dallas Bowl in the Cotton Bowl Stadium. That is, and always has been, the best case scenario for North Texas this season. The athletic department needs to work with the university and the City of Dallas to create the biggest New Years Eve party possible in the Dallas West End complete with outdoor stage for cheerleaders, dance team, Green Brigade, and to promote this party to the North Texas students and alumni. There's more than a month to plan, it should be done correctly.
  4. Bellazin was the subject of a recruiting battle between North Texas and SMU which North Texas won. http://ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=42953&sid=a1b6e30a0a1799573bd624de6407832e
  5. The weather is forecasted to be chilly for this weekend's gamewith temperatures in the mid to high 40s, and there's the cold bowl game at New Years, the game at Tulsa, and possibly a CUSA CCG played at Apogee in early December. This bright green shows up great on television. The Finish Line is currently running a special on their $40 North Texas hoodies, two for $40, and its even cheaper, two for $35 with free shipping if you order them online. 6. Meanwhile, up in Iowa City....... The Hawkeyes are bubbling with excitemet about the prospects of playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl: http://iowa.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=804&tid=168335881&mid=168335881&sid=940&style=2 http://iowa.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=804&tid=168254529&mid=168254529&sid=940&style=2
  7. North Texas plays New Years Day in the Heart of Dallas Bowl if we lose to either UTSA or Tulsa. North Texas plays New Years Day in the Heart of Dallas Bowl if we win CUSA-West but lose to either Marshall or ECU in the CUSA Conference Championship Game. North Texas plays New Years Eve in the Liberty Bowl if we beat both UTSA and Tulsa AND win the CUSA Conference Championship Game. Either bowl is outstanding. ps - Make sure you give and get the new Mean Green hoodies for Chrismas. 8. It sounds like his team is extremely reliant on him. Per the DMN: "What he did: Franklin had touchdown runs of 52, 11, 10, 6 and 4 yards to beat Irving MacArthur, 49-25, and clinch Irving’s first playoff berth since 2008. The diminutive running back, who transferred from Euless Trinity before the season, touched the ball on 39 of Irving’s 61 plays."
  9. This looks like an interesting prospect: Irving RB Antonio Franklin 5-9, 162, 4.38 40 Irving RB Antonio Franklin played last season as a reserve at Euless Trinity. In limited action last year, the speedy back rushed for 469 yards and nine touchdowns. He ran a sub 4.4 40 at the SARQ Combine in Allen this past April, transferred to Irving High, and has been tearing it up since. Irving had won one game each of the last three years. He ran for 300 yards this past week against rival MacArthur to clinch a playoff berth for Irving and was awarded as the Morning News Offensive Player of the Week. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/high-schools/athletes-of-the-week/20131110-offensive-player-of-the-week-1111-irving-s-antonio-franklin.ece
  10. Guys, let's not get into speculation. Nothing is basketball fact until Cooley posts it on this board.
  11. Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies and everyone goes....... NOOORTH!!!
  12. I like the idea of of a bronze Texas Armadillo but holding a football instead of a bottle or can. As far as the recipient of the award, I say don't limit it to CUSA teams, but open the competition to all the Texas D1 colleges. Place a minimum requirement of at least two road games and award the trophy every year to the Texas D1 team with the most victories against other Texas D1 teams. Sure there may be years that schools tie with equal win counts, but just present a trophy to each winner.
  13. Let's revisit this post on November 24 to see if Houston is having a dream season compared to ours. Their road is about to become a lot rockier.
  14. Bingo!!! We have a winner. Isn't it amazing that the purple pirates don't talk about this. If it happens, North Texas quickly passes ECU. Oh, and here's the link to the REAL rankings: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/bcs Now do you know why they're all skeered? Websters defines it as: Apogeephobia: Fear of getting your arse kicked at Apogee.
  15. I wish the athletic department would just make these last two games free general admission wing zone seating for kids 14 and under. They've only done this for the one night that they knew no elementary aged kid would want to be at a football game. Do this promotion any other day and it will be very successful.
  16. I second that, and I've been attending games for a long time as well. The perfomance was fun to watch and they looked like they were having fun.
  17. It's the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. Go to the game at Tulsa if you can.
  18. FAU leads 20 - 17
  19. Crappy CUSA refs forgot to assess the penalty on before the kickoff..............met after the play, then finally gave up. FAU picks off pass, third Tulane pass picked in a row, and has returned to Tulane 27
  20. Tied at 17 FAU called for excessive celebration even though the celebration was off the playing field (outside the white lines)?
  21. I like Tulsa, but this win was good for us. * UTSA will be up for their home game against Tulane. * With a victory over Tulsa and possibly Tulane, UTSA will brind a significantly larger group to Apogee. This is a rivalry that we need to cultivate. * This demolition at home by UTSA may diminish the resolve of Tulsa, and a significant percent of their fan support will have quit on them by the time that we play there Thanksgiving weekend. That game may wind up being like a home game for North Texas.
  22. Here's the problem: The Stand could only end on a turnover play. Those referees were certainly going to throw another pass interference flag on North Texas if that ball was thrown anywhere in the end zone, and were going to call unnecessary roughness if we'd caught the quarterback, just like they did at La Tech. That officiating crew, which had blatantly screwed us at Tulane, and tried to at La Tech and vs Rice should not be allowed anywhere near any more of our games.
  23. Movies about Gladiators?
  24. Absolutely amazing.
