Reasons to believe we MIGHT open the offense up
ADLER replied to GOMG2013's topic in Mean Green Football

From one July 28th birthday guy to another, Best wishes and may this year be even greater than the last. Cheers

The Ravens fans must have been doing their research on their free agents as Zach has moved up in their poll. He still may need some fan assistance though to officially be labeled their fan base favorite.

I want to see Hafoka Olie and TJ Tauaalo leading the haka after every big North Texas win. -
My Bride purchased a news clipping for this game from a retired Wichita sportswriter. The article included a picture of North Texas All-American Joe Greene, and he sent the 8 x 10 photo that he was provided by the North Texas athletics department.

Maybe so, but if the Heart of Dallas Bowl moves to become a weeknight game, they are going to do everything possible to get North Texas as their CUSA representative.

Note***The ones on the Belk site are a different style from the picture above with stitching also on the lower boot. (I couldn't get the Belk pic to copy). The new stadium overlaps the site of the cavernous old Tulane "Sugar Bowl" Stadium which hosted three early Super Bowls before it was dismantled in 1980. The new stadium is low-profile to appease the residents on the adjacent Audobon Boulevard and designed to deflect noise away from the neighborhood. There are no parking lots for the new stadium, just a small lot by the baseball stadium. Odd trivia - an Egyptian mummy was found in one of the many storage areas of the old stadium. Nobody knew how or when it got there, and there was no known history of the university having it.

DL Xavier Washington 6-1, 238 4.85 Cedar Hill (offer)
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
No, and they don't count against the scholarship limit until the next season. There are real benefits to receiving a grey shirt. College entry is delayed for one semester giving these new signees the opportunity to work out 24/7 like pro athletes with a weightroom and excercise regimen directed by the strength and conditioning coach. The benefit that parents see is that their kid will receive 9 semesters of paid education instead of 8 (11 if there's a redshirt year). This enables athletes to graduate and start working on graduate programs while still on scholarship. -

Per Ask.com A grey shirt in college football is a freshman athlete, one who has just completed high school, who does not enrol in the institution with the others in the fall, but waits until the second semester. Some institutions grey shirt a player because they have a small class or because they have already committed to a certain number of prospects. -
Sam: I keep askin' myself: what is the point to life? Woody: Whew. That's a tough question. Cliff: Ehh. Well, I got the answer. Frasier: Somehow I knew you would. Cliff: Comfortable shoes. Frasier: Shoes? Cliff: Yeah. If you're not wearin' comfortable shoes, life is just chaos. I mean the greatest accomplishments in history have been made by men wearin' accommodating shoes. Uh, Frasier, tell me, who do you think is the greatest thinker in all mankind? Frasier: I don't know, uh... Aristotle. Cliff: There you go: sandals. Perhaps the most comfortable shoe there is. You hardly even know you have them on. Well, that's at least Cliffy's version. Norm's version is probably more accurate, and probably the reason that you're reading this right now.

This is the easiest question of the day. Answer: We knew the day that he got injured and was still within the first four games of the season. The injury report was submitted to the conference and automatically approved. It only becomes an issue requiring NCAA approval if Dajon needs a 6th year to complete his 4 years of eligibility. Next?

True John Denton died after a raid on the local tribes, but he is not burried in the grave on the square. He died in Tarrant County of injuries incurred in the 'battle' and was burried in a shallow grave. People went years later to find the body for the memorial grave that was to be placed on the courthouse property and came back with some bones to bury. Decades later it was proven that the bones were not John Denton but instead from a Native American woman.

2014 Offer Tre Betts Sand Springs OK DB/S
ADLER replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I seriously doubt that we pulled the scholarship offer. This was likelier to have been a grayshirt offer and the kid found an FCS school that will offer him a scholarship immediately and probably an opportunity for a lot of playing time early in his career there. Although I hate to ever lose any of our commitments, it sometimes is for the best for all involved. The kid may have pro football asperations and couldn't risk going somewhere that he may be burried on the depth chart for his first couple of seasons. The league has very little interest in players that are not the ideal height, weight, and speed unless they have proven themselves as multi-season starters. -

Here's a new 2013 highlight video featuring all 25 of Xavier's sacks. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1443616/#highlights/78074375 I think that not only would Xavier be great for North Texas, but North Texas would provide an excellent opportunity for Xavier to display his skills. I guess the whole Mean Green Nation is waiting on his moment.... -
That's how it worked for us as well. The security officer at our staircase held up his hands in 'stay back' position while watching over his shoulder. After the UNLV team had congratulated the victors and left the field he put down his hands and motioned that people could then come down. He was getting his picture made wih the UNLV cheerleaders by the time my group got down to the field

Heart of Dallas Bowl HOD through the eyes of the Green Brigade (Vid)
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Greatness. It was wonderful to get to see the activities from the Brigade's point of view; the enthusiasm, the cheering in the stands, and the greeting of the players, and I especially loved the cinematography while marching. -
I gotta admit, I am really looking forward to @UTSA next year!
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Like it or not, their arrogance is beneficial to us as well as them. Their success including their miraculous upset of North Texas and their exaggerated cockyness is helping the streetbirds quickly establish themselves as a known commodity and worthy rival. I don't know where this game will be played this year as CUSA has to juggle schedules, but I would like to see this game scheduled every year on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, and to enhance the rivalry I'd like to see students of the visiting team receive free or greatly reduced admission in Denton and San Antonio.- 63 replies

Like it, or not like it, North Texas is on the list of teams that CUSA will have to provide as an opponent to one of the military academies in the Heart Of Dallas Classic during the State Fair. Probably at the top of that list with stars next to our name. We can all plan as if its an honor and rally the fanbase to participate in this essentially home game against Air Force, Navy, or Army as a charity benefit, or we can kick, scream, and flail ourselves around on the ground protesting. Which method of acceptance would ya'll prefer? Either way North Texas will still be obligated/honored to participate in this charity event to raise funds for military veterans. Like all of you, I hope these game(s) do not come at the expense of a home game at Apogee. Instead I would hope that we could cancel the opportunity/bodybag/payday game each season that we play in the HOD Classic.

Greatness. It had everything including the trophy presentations. Thanks Huff.

It's not even a close comparison between North Texas and Houston success this season. Houston had only 7 FBS victories this season including only two wins over bowl teams: Rice (by 5 points), Rutgers (who finished the season at 5-7 in FBS play with all 5 wins against teams having horrible seasons) North Texas had 9 FBS victories this season including four victories over bowl teams: Ball State, Middle Tennessee, Rice, and UNLV (and won those by an average of 17 points) And if there's still any doubt remaining the seasons success, please compare the North Texas Bowl Champion Rings to the Houston bowl participation ribbons.

North Texas bowl win photo selected for publication in the U.K.

I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come. And I believe it could be, something good has begun. -
People were saying the same thing when A&M was down to Duke. This game still has a lot of football to be played. Vandy may be a small private school from the SEC but Houston, from the AAC, has a whole lot of experience playing with its own tiny privates.
