This is certainly an interesting prospect. I have only seen film of one of his games, when Thomas led small town Ville Platte against Louisiana's powerhouse program Madison Prep his senior season. Madison Prep's roster is essentially an all-star team of the most talented players from Baton Rouge and they easily won the state championship. Michael Thomas performed extremely well matched up against 6-10 current LSU star Jarrell Martin and carried his team with something like 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks. With six minutes left the small school was only down by two shots when Thomas was pulled following his fourth foul and a close game quickly reverted to a rout. I have no idea how well Mike Thomas has developed at the juco level but he certainly played outstanding ball in his one high school game that I've watched.

Duryea played basketball at Denton (Texas) High School and the University of North Texas. At UNT, Duryea was a co-captain in 1988 for one of only three teams in school history to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

UTSA lands Michigan grad transfer Russell Bellomy

http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/russell_bellomy_765104.html Wow, his career stats are, if you can believe this, even worse than the three quarterbacks that North Texas started this past season. -
Well said GE, well said. The Cajuns would be an excellent selection to replace UAB in CUSA. Our conference has lost western members Tulane and Tulsa in recent years and replaced them with eastern schools to placate ECU and Marshall. How well did that work? CUSA added schools which each have their fine merits but are all totally unmarketable in our part of the world. We once again have the requirement to replace a departing western member and let's get it right this time. The Cajuns aren't an excellent candidate to fill the void, they're the perfect candidate.

Trey Keenan, the former standout at Argyle, plans to transfer out of Texas Tech because of lack of playing time. He's already a redshirt sophomore so its likely that he'll be looking at 1-AA and Div II programs. He probably would have developed into quite a player at North Texas but instead became just a discarded depth player in the Big 12. http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2015/01/texas-tech-loses-two-lineman-including-former-argyle-standout-trey-keenan.html/

I had a wonderful time. Arrived in San Antonio at lunch time on Friday with the family. Checked in early at the Hilton Homewood Suites on The Riverwalk (only $167 for nice suite with evening drinks and decent breakfast buffet included). Went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas for the lighting of Holiday in the Park. The park is beautiful, immaculately maintained, and the rides are much better managed that our local Six Flags park. We later returned to the hotel but were too late to attend the North Texas alumni function, went down to the Riverwalk for dinner and margaritas outside by the river. The Riverwalk was incredible in all its holiday splendor and the weather was perfect. Went to the game Saturday morning, ran into lettermen and San Antonio natives Jeff Muenchow and Tommy Harrison, and its always good to see the former players out supporting the team. The game was entertaining as the North Texas fell behind but had an unusual rally spurred by multiple UTSA muffed punts. North Texas had a last minute chance as elusive speedster Zac Whitfield rightfully tried to return a wobbly fumble for winning score. He couldn't control the ball but I'm proud that he at least tried. I talked with quite a few UTSA fans at the game and they were all very nice. Stopped at Black's Barbeque in Lockhart for a late lunch on the way home. It was a great football weekend despite to final score and a reason that I love that we now have these regional rivalries.

No, not even close. SMU reported last weeks attendance at over 19,000 when there were very, very few people in that stadium. They report tickets sold...as in all season tickets, all single game tickets, all charity distribution tickets, and 100% student enrollment since the students have already paid for tickets. It sounds fishy since the overwhelming majority of those tickets aren't actually used, but it explains how they justify the reported figures. Since all students have already paid an athletics fee, North Texas could easily do the same thing and report every event sold to capacity. I'm glad we don't.

We should always make a scholarship available for any player that legitimately has the potential to start for the next four years, especially at a position which has experienced such obvious turmoil.

Obviously Dajon did something wrong this week

Dan did say that everything from this point forward is "building for next season". I wonder what that'll mean. Any ideas? -

Mac just had so many obscenities that they terminated his interview. Wow! OK, maybe technical difficulties. -
http://www.armedforcesbowl.com/our-game/the-matchup Read the site, The Armed Forces Bowl was contracted to have an AAC team play Army this season, Right now the bowl committee is hoping and praying that there will be a Big 12 school available after that conference has filled all its other contracted bowl slots. http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=204777134 Armed Forces will have the 7th placed team from the 10 schools in the Big 12. Right now, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Iowa State are already eliminated from bowl contention. The loser of tonight's Texas -Oklahoma State matchup may have an uphill climb.

Western Kentucky has beaten Army 52 to 24, The Fort Worth Armed Forces Bowl now has to locate a replacement for Army. WIN 6!
-
This year is interesting. As rough as the season has been, if we hit six we'll probably go to a very desirable bowl. Why? CUSA will have an extra bowl slot open if Marshall qualifies as the representative in the New Year’s Six bowl spot guaranteed to the highest-ranked champion of the Mountain West, Conference USA, Sun Belt, Mid American and American conferences. That very likely will happen. Additionally, within the next few minutes WKU will be placing the final dagger in Army's bowl hopes as they deliver the Black Knights seventh loss this season. Army was slated to be in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth on January 2. The Armed Forces bowl will be scrambling to find a replacement team that can put butts in the seats and a bowl eligible North Texas would be high on their wish list. (AAC representative will quite possibly be Houston) Beat UTEP!

He wouldn't even need to touch him. He could use his detrimental telepathy. (and the free markers, if he ever received his)

Mac is a very good coach. North Texas simply is not to the point yet where the football program reloads instead of rebuilding. He's getting us there but is possibly taking longer than even he expected. I believe this season is over as far as being a bowl season. It's time to build for the future, especially concerning finding if either of our physically gifted young quarterbacks has the ability to lead this team. Both Greer and Williams seem to have ability but neither has played anywhere close to his potential.

Gutsy call lifts Southern Miss over North Texas
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
OK, which teams do you foresee us beating playing boring, run out the clock, ball? Why would that style of play provide any advantage over a more entertaining style? And would you really rather start players with limited ability instead of investing playing time in development of players that have the ability to become future stars? This season is toast. Start building for next year. -
Gutsy call lifts Southern Miss over North Texas
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Unfortunately that really was the play of the day. North Texas had the chance to sustain a drive with fourth down and less than a yard at the USM 40 earlier in the game and decided to punt. That lack of aggression came back to bite North Texas. Although not mathematically eliminated, at this point North Texas is realistically eliminated from bowl contention. Put the most entertaining product possible on the field, run a hurry-up offense and fire away. On defense, blitze constantly: sure there will be times that we get burned, but there will also be sacks and forced interceptions. That's entertainment. And, just as important, use the remaining five games of this wasted season to prepare the players with the most potential to be ready for the September 5, 2015 kickoff when the scores will actually matter again. Damn the torpedos..... -
Who was Mac referring to when he talked about bad nothing the team on
ADLER replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, and Mac was saying bad things about Santa Clause, furry little kittens, Mother Theresa, babies, Old Yeller, the American flag, first responders, etc. Wait, that's maybe not what he said. Maybe what he said was " because we came up short tonight, do not let this be an excuse to go out tonight and embarrass this program and university. If you think that's the thing to do, I'll run you out of the program so fast it'll make your head spin." Listen for yourself: http://www.kntu.com/2014/10/18/southern-miss-deals-mean-green-a-loss-at-home/ The postgame interview starts at the 4:37:52 mark -

George Dunham makes impact on UNT athletics From what height did he fall, and what did it register? Just kidding, I love ol' Georgio. I remember him as kid covering the Corky's Corner coaches shows from the extravagant Rock Bottom Lounge.
