Ryan, I respect your dedication, but I believe that you are 100% wrong in confronting fans that choose family obligations over a all too often made scheduling error by an incredibly oblivious athletic department. The game is scheduled Halloween Night for what, some non-existent television exposure? It is not the customers that suck, it is the horrendous scheduling of the event that sucks. Personally, I would love to be at the game, but I am not going to do that to my children.

One more reason that the UNT job is so attractive, is it is in Texas. All the state rah-rah bravado aside, Texas is one of the few states in the country that does not have a state income tax. The rates vary by state with up to 13.3% taken. There could be a million or more good reasons per year to coach at North Texas and you don't have to waste a single one of them on state income tax. And add in Denton County, it has relatively low cost of living in one of the highest standard of living counties in the country.

NT Daily Article: Attendance on the decline in 3 major sports

Lying, no, merely a sidestep...... -
The Georgia Southern Eagles, led by former Sam Houston State head coach Willie Fritz, rushed for over 500 yards while defeating Texas State. You may remember Coach Dennis Franchione, the Big Splash name that combined with his offensive wizardry was going to be so influential in harvesting the fertile Texas recruiting grounds? A whole lot of North Texas fans thought that he'd be the best replacement choice after Dodge was fired. Well, after five seasons, all at the FBS level, he has toiled away at Texas State and tonight ran into Willie Fritz and was handled 37-13 on national television. Fritz has dominated at every level as he has ascended, and he has done so by assembling competent staffs, recruiting well, and utilizing his teams talents to the best of their abilities. Despite being in transition from FCS, Georgia Southern weent undefeated in league play and won the Sun Belt title in their inaugural season, and they became bowl eligible tonight in their first season as a full FBS member. Fritz is doing extremely well at Georgia Southern and we'd be very lucky to get him. Unlike many of the other so-called favorites his head coaching experience isn't limited to X-Box or Playstation. Take substance over sizzle guys, Fritz knows what he is doing. .

2016 UNT Football Non-conference slate is out
ADLER replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Gawd, I hope not. 6:00 is blasted hot in September, and the students will again be baking in the sun for the first hour. There is too much emphasis placed on getting the people up in the air-conditioned levels home in time to watch their Golden Girls reruns. Unless there is some type of valid reason, and valid reason does not include ESPN 3 or Fox Unknown Channel webcasts, start all early season home games at 7:00 or 7:30. It's been a working formula for Texas high schools since, well, forever, and it will work for North Texas. People like to do social activities at the social time of the day. That September 3 game against SMU is our last scheduled home game with them. Everything possible needs to be done to make that game an all green sellout. Playing it in the heat of the day because of some crappy television scheduling will again kill attendance. -
It creates balanced divisions with 7 in each. 7 team divisions mean that each team plays 3 home and 3 away games inside it's division (you don't play with yourself, at least you're not supposed to), and one home game and one away game with the other division. It works so much better than 6 team divisions.

Georgia Southern lost their first Sun Belt game since joining the league tonight 31-13 playing at App State. In an odd way that's good for us. North Texas is very familiar with Willie Fritz, his background, and how well his credentials match the qualities that we are looking for. This loss, and the likelihood that Georgia Southern may not repeat as Sun Belt champions, will probably make him less attractive to some of the other schools that we could be competing with for his services.

Yes, He wanted the truth, wanted the truth, but .........He Can't Handle The Truth. I was beginning to wonder if anybody caught that.

I'll answer the question. Yes, Saban had Michigan State in the Top Ten in all polls the year he was hired away by LSU (1999). Oh wait, that's called consensus. I am not predicting that Mark Dantonio is going anywhere. I don't know Mark Dantonio and my answer is I don't have the first damn clue. Maybe he likes warm weather and likes to go to the coast. And maybe he doesn't have many friends in Michigan. I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently about the career advancement habits of Mark Dantonio. What I do know is that he has had success suitable to make his resume attractive to many colleges, and there are many large budget schools in the SEC, South Carolina included, that could certainly pay him whatever his asking price. Now, are these the questions I was really called here to answer? Can you handle that?
-
I know. Stupid SEC. It's like when LSU thought they could use an enormous amount of cash to hire Nick Saban away from Michigan State. Oh wait, nevermind.
-
There may be others that could be considered to look like "safe" picks, but Willie Fritz looks like the best combination of everything that we should be looking for.
-
That wouldn't stop him from putting in as much effort as Mack Brown would.
-
Talented player, but...............4.37 in the 40? I don't think so. Judge for yourself. Jackie Harvell HUDL Highlights That being said, he is very productive at that level. I think he may make a better receiver than defensive back at the college level.

Ivin Jasper - Needs to be new HC at North Texas
ADLER replied to Ben Gooding's topic in Mean Green Football
There is very little gamble involved with Willie Fritz. Put plainly, he wins, and he has won everywhere that he's coached. The only possible drawback for Fritz is that his services will command a premium salary since he is now a proven commodity on the Division 1 level. Can North Texas afford what Fritz would be asking? It would certainly be amongst the higher CUSA payrolls for Fritz and his staff. -
Getting the Athletic Director position at North Texas would be a dream job for Mack Brown. He would approach it with so much fire and passion that there's no way that he would just be using North Texas to pad millions into his account while he did absolutely nothing. Wait, wrong on both counts. Brown would be a monumental mistake. If you guys really desire sizzle over substance, get somebody like Charlie Sheen (Winning!!! is his motto) or Gary Coleman (what recruit could turn down What you talkin' bout?) Both hires would get more media attention than hiring Mac Brown, and each would certainly perform the job better than Mack Brown.

Would You Give Canales A 1 Year Chance
ADLER replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey, spend hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars buying tickets for North Texas Football. Over the last decade the last two coaches have driven the program into the ground. Recruiting has been awful and the on-field results have been humiliating for the university and for everyone associated with it. But now we've hired their second in command to run the program. Sorry, that sales pitch doesn't work even with the best of outcomes for the remaining 6 games this season. North Texas has got to be able to sell that a real change has taken place. It would be like Blue Bell trying to sell "possibly reduced listeria" ice cream. Nobody is going to buy it. -
I don't know if I am more surprised by your reaction or by the suggestion that Scott Hall made a pass at you. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
-
It was nice to see a quarterback try to make something happen when pressured instead of just throwing the ball away. (Or the taking a knee guy) Thank goodness the folly is over.
-
I hope he does really well to the point that he would be considered a viable candidate. The more qualified coaches that we have to choose from, the better. Now, in Mikes case, these next 7 games are huge but he would also be evaluated on his ability/inability to recruit and develop offensive players over the last six years.

Well, after a year at prep school and two record setting seasons playing for Brad Smiley at Trinity Valley, Jerod Evans is now available again.
-
Yes, maybe not as experienced a Willie Fritz, but a whole lot of upside, especially for somebody his age; Brad Smiley, TVCC Coach (and AD) Named by American Football Monthly magazine as the 2014 Rawlings Football National Junior College Coach of the Year, as well as the 2014 and 2013 SWJCFC Coach of the Year, Brad Smiley has just finished his eighth season at the helm of Trinity Valley Football. He has built the program from only 2 wins in his first season to back-to-back double digit win seasons, back-to-back SWJCFC Conference and SWJCFC Regional Championships, back-to-backNJCAA Bowl Championships and currently holds a 21-game unbeaten streak. Smiley is the only current head coach in the conference to have won both a regular season and regional championship, as well as in the same season. Smiley is the first SWJCFC coach to accomplish that feat in back-to-back seasons in 20 years (Willie Fritz,1995-96). The Cardinals have been the most dominant team in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference recently qualifying for the playoffs 4 of the previous 5 seasons and making the SWJCFC Regional Championship game 3 of those 4 seasons, of course winning it all twice. They have also had 7 different players recognized as the conference's overall, offensive or defensive players of the year since 2009. The Cardinals are also one of the nation's leaders in placing players at the next level with both 4-year universities and Division 1 Football FBS and FCS programs, leading the nation in 3 of the past 4 seasons. The Cardinals run in 2014 was a historic one, becoming only the third team in school history to finish with a perfect 12-0 record and the fourth to finish the regular season undefeated. The SWJCFC Championship was the 20th in school history, and the trip to the 2014 C.HA.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl was the 20th in school history as well (TVCC leads the SWJCFC all-time in both categories). The offense put up unprecedented numbers in 2014, breaking the NJCAA All-Time record in total offense (7,778 yards), yards per game (648.1) and placekicker Leo Peralta broke the NJCAA All-Time record for PAT's (95). The Cardinal offense led the nation in al of those categories, as well as points scored (704), points per game (58.7), touchdowns (96), passing touchdowns (52), passing yards (4,343), rushing yards (3,434) and yards per carry (7.6). The offense also finished 2nd nationally in passing yards per game (368.6), rushing yards per game (289.5) and were 3rd nationally in rushing touchdowns (43). 10 of the Cardinals 12 games in 2014 rank among the top 35 highest scoring games in school history, going for more than 50 points ten times, 60 points five times and 70 points three times. The Cardinal defense also had a great year, finishing first in the conference in total defense, passing defense, points per game and yards per game. Also, Cardinal sophomore linebacker, Cortney Finney, was named both the 2014NJCAA and SWJCFC Defensive Player of the Year. In 3 of the past 4 seasons a Cardinal has won the conference's defensive top honor. In special teams, the Cards led the nation in kicking points scored (128) and PAT's (95), both breaking SWJCFC Conference records set by the Cardinals kickers in 2013. The 2014 Cardinals once again led the conference with 11 first or second team All-SWJCFCselections, and had 2 NJCAA 1st Team Al-Americans, OL Reggie Harris and LB Cortney Finney. During his tenure as head football coach, Smiley boasts 15 NJCAA All-Americans, 7 SWJCFC MVP's, 26 SWJCFC Players of the Week, 10 NJCAA National Players of the Week, 1 NJCAA National Player of the Year and 66 1st or 2nd Team All-Conference selections. As a team the Cardinals have played in the 2014, 2013 and 2010 SWJCFC Regional Championship games (winning in both 2013 & 2014), the 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014 Regional Semi-Finals and bowl games in three of the last four years (2014 an 2013 C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl, 2011 Citizen's Bank Bowl). Statistically, they have been among the conference and nations leaders in offense, defense and special teams. As head coach of the Cardinals, Smiley has been a part of 26 of the top 40 scoring games in school history. Smiley came to Trinity Valley after spending 7 seasons coaching at Divsion I - FBS Tulane University. During his time in New Orleans he was the recruiting coordinator and coached the Green Wave tight ends. During his tenure at Tulane he was a part of an offensive staff that helped produce the university's all-time leading passer, leading scorer and leading rusher as well as several all-time leading receivers. Smiley began his coaching career at his alma mater, Baylor University, as a student assistant in 1995. In his 3 years as AD, Trinity Valley has seen unprecedented success. In 2014 and 2013, all 5 sports reached the regional playoffs, 5 conference regular season championships have been won (football (2), women's basketball (2) and men's basketball (1), 4 regional championships (football (2) and women's basketball(2), 2 won the NJCAA National Championship (women's basketball) and 4 competed in NJCAA post-season tournaments, bowls or national championship competitions. http://www2.tvcc.edu/Football/article.aspx?articleid=862&zoneid=295&deptid=200

6-4 230 Quarterback Jerod Evans is back on the market and putting up monster numbers at Trinity Valley CC. The former Mansfield QB is receiving interest from several schools but his only firm offer is from UAB with another possible offer from Memphis. http://njcaaregion14.com/sports/fball/2015-16/players/jerodevans1gtp http://sports.yahoo.com/uga/football/recruiting/player-Jerod-Evans-176177 http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3754973/jerod-evans http://herosports.com/collegefootball/jerod-evans-trinity-valley-community-college-highlights-quarterback-two-offers/ And he was NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Week a couple weeks ago for his performance torching Kilgore.
