What do y'all think about dino babers???
ADLER replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Tom Fornelli at CBS Sports is touting Dino Babers as the best candidate for the Miami job. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25356638/dino-babers-is-the-kind-of-different-that-miami-hurricanes-need -
Thankfully all "Canales for Coach" talk is over

Are you sure you're that ready to lionize the guy for edging a really, really bad UTSA team? I'm happy to have the win and all, but we got outperformed at home by a crappy UTSA team starting a 4th string walk-on quarterback and had to rely on a fumble return to score enough to win. Everything else has been the same horror show we've been watching for two years, just with a little more rah-rah. I like Mike, my bike likes Mike, but he's just not a viable part of the future of this program. -

Looks like a viable candidate. 15-8 at Bowling Green, 7-2 including wins over Purdue and Maryland this year. 4 years at Baylor under Art Briles and 2 working with Sumlin at A&M during Slocum era. http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/schedule/_/id/189 http://bgsufalcons.com/coaches.aspx?rc=526 I hope he has his people contact our search committee. -
This does highlight one of the advantages that we (and other Texas teams) have. Sonny may be making $2 million per year in California, but the cost of living is incredibly high and he's paying $270 thousand per year in state income taxes. Suddenly $1.5 million doesn't seem so non-competitive, even with some of these P5 schools.

Well, looks like he may have been blowing smoke after all......... Cal and Dykes are now in negotiations to extend his contract. http://www.californiagoldenblogs.com/2015/11/8/9693398/sonny-dykes-california-golden-bears-head-coach-academics-contract-extension I'd still love to have him coach here but it looks like he was never really slated to be available. He still belongs in Texas though.

The WHORE GAMES need to end. They have severely damaged the image of this athletic department, and worse yet, have cast a very negative public image of the university. We were told they would end, that North Texas would be able to play attractive opponents in home and home arrangements. Our schools dignity would no longer be sold to the highest bidders. That hasn't happened. of losing Instead, cash is taken now for selling our team far into the future. North Texas hasn't won a WHORED GAME during the lives of any of it's players. That's a damn long time and this well established legacy of losing makes recruiting to North Texas very difficult. PLAY THE GAME THIS WEEK AND THEN TEAR UP EVERY SINGLE FUTURE WHORE GAME CONTRACT SET ON FUTURE SCHEDULES. IF ANY OF THOSE TEAMS STILL WANTS TO PLAY NORTH TEXAS, THEN IT WILL HAVE TO BE A HOME AND HOME SERIES. 09/17/2016 - at Florida09/16/2017 - at Iowa2018 - at Arkansas10/05/2019 - at Wisconsin09/12/2020 - at Texas A&M Those are all embarrassing losses on our schedule years before they are even played. Cancel every one of them if they will not play home-and-home.

I had no idea Sonny was looking to leave Cal. That would be a dream job for an awful lot of west coast coaches. Sonny Dykes or Willie Fritz would be my first choices because they have already proven that they know what they're doing. Several of the coordinators that we are receiving interest from are also quite promising. http://www.californiagoldenblogs.com/2015/11/1/9655868/sonny-dykes-california-golden-bears-coaching-rumors http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/ *Dykes currently makes $2 million per year but Cal hasn't extended him past 2017. He may be just posturing for an extension.

from the Monroe NewStar: After the game, North Texas interim head coach Mike Canalas said Smith was moving his hands and feet before he left on the stretcher. "He was able to bend his knees and I think he was just a little sore in his lower back and it was just precautionary to take him to the hospital," Canalas said.

Thankfully all "Canales for Coach" talk is over
ADLER replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Did you not notice that we had zero points until trash time again. Canales isn't to blame? That's like saying that we can't blame rain for getting the ground wet. Chico has been building his offense for six years and it is functionally inept as far as contributing to the games outcome in any way, shape, or form. It is 100% Chico's responsibility.- 39 replies

La Tech has easily ended any debate and discussion. Best of luck to Coach Canales wherever he winds up.

It said "OZARKA TEXAS SPRING WATER" ? Give me a minute to get out my FRVC Secret Decoder. What does it say? What does it say? The fate of the athletic department is resting in my hands. What does it say?

Bring back Dickey? Really? Why will a dog that has eaten something noxious later go back and eat its own vomit?

WHORING YOUR TEAM FOR ANY AMOUNT IS A BAD DEAL. IF NEBRASKA WANTS TO PLAY THEY'LL NEED TO MAKE IT A HOME-&-HOME DEAL. OUR SCHOOLS DIGNITY SHOULD NEVER BE FOR SALE. And anybody that compromises this value should immediately be fired.

I think he actually has a pretty good shot at the job if he beats Tennessee.

I can see them hanging 50 on us in the first half. I am soooooooooooooooo damn tired of supporting a school that whores out its teams for cash. fixed it for myself

Kendal Briles -- North Texas Head Coaching Candidate
ADLER replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Great recruiter? Nothing against Kendal because I don't doubt that he's a really nice guy and good coach, but....(there's always a big but) Calling anybody that recruits to a top ten program a "great recruiter" is like calling someone that orders food from good restaurants a great chef. A ball of twine could be considered a "great recruiter" at Alabama because every top recruit is interested in playing there.- 187 replies

Fine by me if Canales is signed to a 3 year contract, but only as long as not a single cent is guaranteed past year one. There's no way that North Texas should wind up buying out the contract of a very questionable interim. He needs to prove to us that he can do it as the head guy. Trial By Fire is the only way. Get results or get lost. Would Canales be up to that challenge?

#2 NMSU, #4 North Texas, and #10FAU all won and should be moving off the list. Looks like UT-SA and SMU will be earning their way onto this week's Top Ten. Hopefully they will have the strength to remain there for the rest of the season.
-
Well, we waited and didn't make an offer. Now California has offered. Good things come to those who wait, except in recruiting.

http://www.rowdytalk.com/showthread.php/7420-Is-this-the-worst-loss-in-program-history The point is, no matter how bad it was for them, NOTHING EVER IS AS EMBARRASSING AS LOSING TO UT-SA.
-
This program has hit rock bottom, and from an attendance point is an unsellable product. It will be nearly impossible to sell season tickets to see the guy who faltered under Dodge and absolutely tanked under McCarney lead the team. That being said, I would not be opposed to Canales receiving a ONE YEAR CONTRACT TO PROVE WHAT HE CAN DO if, and only if, he is able to produce a couple more wins this season. I, in no way shape or form, would even consider entertaining the thought of an extension past one year before the morning of September 4. Until then there should be no guaranteed contract for Canales: 2016 only. Because of the circumstances that he helped create he would have to survive trial by fire to get any contract beyond the 2016 season.

The outcome of Saturday Night's game against North Texas is very embarrassing to UT-SA. But UT-SA fans have found solace in the fact that it is nowhere as embarrassing as when North Texas lost to UT-SA in 2013, or even 2014.

Hey, any win is a Super Bowl win when you're convinced that your team is one of the worst in the history of football. It's just extremely nice to verify that one is actually worse, and that's where UTKFC fits in.
