  1. How valuable are dominant defensive tackles, and what risks will certain colleges assume to get them? http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/07/lsu_dt_trey_lealaimatafao_arre.html http://www.shreveporttimes.com/story/sports/college/lsu/2015/06/29/lsu-boots-trey-lealaimatafao-football-team/29476563/ http://collegespun.com/sec/lsu/lsu-football-trey-lealaimatafao-claims-racism-regarding-role-in-bar-fight-that-led-to-his-dismissal http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-dixon-robbery-spress-20160121-story.html Good luck Arizona, Colorado, and Hawaii. We'll be watching to see which one of you gets your coveted prize.
  2. Brett confirmed in his blog that Jameel Moore flipped from Rice.
  3. Tyler has still not announced a commitment. Many schools have offered (http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Tyler-Tutt-85987/RecruitInterests) but North Texas may have an advantage in that it is only a few minutes from Keller to Apogee Stadium where all his friends, family, and home community could watch his games. He's isolated by hundreds of miles at every other school that has offered. http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/player/8127706n-tyler-tutt
  4. Yeah, he had quite an offer list coming out of high school. http://sports.yahoo.com/lsu/football/recruiting/player-Maquedius-Bain-131770
  5. Something is going on with Coree as far as interest from a D1 program. Coree committed to FCS Central Arkansas on Jan 17 and decommitted on the 26th. https://twitter.com/coreec11
  6. I haven't seen anything about Sherman's recruitment since he's been at Paris JC. Do you believe we have a shot at getting him or do you think his juco stop is just part of him transferring to another predetermined school? http://www.rantsports.com/ncaa-basketball/2014/06/01/recruit-omar-sherman-will-give-miami-basketball-inside-threat/
  7. The videos show that the kid can play and I am happy we got him. It sounds like he has a lot of doubters to prove wrong and I have faith that he will. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1667735/highlights/321786377/v2 .
  8. Thanks Brett. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2016/01/sunday-recruiting-blog-2.html/ Keep your fingers crossed, there could be some very good news coming soon.
  9. You'll need to read it phonetically. It's a minion that is neither very young nor very bright. "Old Dumb Minion" They have a school in Virginia that was brought into CUSA, along with UNC's Harlot, to keep ECU content enough not to leave for the AAC. I guess these R.H. Stepchildren want to replicate with stepchildren of their own by adding the schools that the Sun Belt will not accept. .
  10. I don't think that collegiate football will disappear, at least not in our lifetimes. I do think that equipment will continue to improve, the rules concerning safety will continue to evolve, and that the game will steadily become less violent as pay and even scholarships are eliminated. Football will return to the integrity it had as a spirited athletic activity for student athletes as it was originally intended. There will always be schools that place a premium on their teams winning at all costs because semi-pro football is the only significant activity in their insignificant states. Most of those schools, currently in P5 conferences, will be ecstatic when they officially become a minor league farm system for the NFL and associated with a college in name only.
  11. I dated a girl in the 80's that loved Michael Martin Murphy's music. We had scheduled a weekend at the Kerrville Music Festival only to discover that he'd cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. I took her to skiing at Red River, NM because Michael Martin Murphy owned a dinner theater there (Crystal River) and I made reservations for a night when he'd be performing. He stopped by each table after the show and spent a few minutes with each. He asked us to stay later so that he could spend a little time visiting with some other North Texas folk. It was fun because he did most of the talking, reminiscing about his time at North Texas and about how Denton had changed with a new mall and everything. We went to see him perform a couple years later when he had a concert at TWU. He was signing albums after the concert, pointed at us when we came though the line and said "Wait, don't tell me. Ya'll came to the restaurant in Red River", and then he stated our names. I was shocked then and still find it unbelievable some 30 years later.
  12. I'm saddened by the loss. I do believe that I am uniquely qualified to respond on the other listed topics. I attended a dinner at the Gateway Center that was Dr Pohl's way to recognize outstanding alumnus Don Henley and raise awareness of the Caddo Lake Institute. Dr Pohl joked at the podium that he was thankful that Don named the band after his college mascot. My Bride thought Dr Pohl as serious and asked Don afterwards at the meet and greet. I initially cringed when she asked it, but Don explained that the band was not specifically named after North Texas, but they had gone through several animal suggestions, and they thought Eagles sounded iconically American, and then Don added that he'd already identified with that moniker from his college days so he was all for it. As for the Ford Mustang being named after the SMU team after the SMU - Michigan game of September 28, 1963. Total bunk. That story was Hayden Fry playing a Jedi mind trick on weak minded SMU fans. Mustang was the name for several Ford project cars starting in 1961.The Ford Mustang coupe prototype was already on display at the Purdue University Union in September, and the convertible prototype was unveiled weeks later at the US Grand Prix.
  13. Scout rated Mike Thomas to be the nations 18th best center for the class of 2014. I hope he is staying in shape, developing his game, and getting his academics in order to join the program this summer. He has a ton of raw ability and could certainly be a contributor on this team.
  14. Darius Anderson has been waiting for a Texas offer or Missouri offer that don't seem to be coming because of his 6'0" height. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/college-football/article/Hightower-s-Anderson-endures-foibles-of-recruiting-6721946.php http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3606751/highlights/293113407/v2 https://twitter.com/d1_danderson99
  15. Best of luck to DeVante in his career at Grambling. According to the Clarion-Ledger DeVante received interest from several FBS schools closer to home but there were no recorded offers. I wonder if the foot injury that he sustained while practicing for the FBS Championship and subsequent surgery scared away potential suitors. Kincade added he received interest from Houston, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, TCU, Texas and Sam Houston State but chose Grambling for the opportunity to play and the coaching staff. His career with the Tigers, however, hasn’t started well. Kincade broke his left foot while warming up for the Sugar Bowl. He was in a walking boot and on crutches after the game and underwent surgery to insert a rod into the foot last week. He will be out for another six weeks and won’t participate in Grambling’s spring workouts. .
  16. To clarify, he has been accepted to UNT, it does not say he has accepted a scholarship offer. He may be a scholarship recruit, and he may be a regular student that plans to walk on at UNT. He's got a large frame, and at only 17 so he may still be growing.
  17. Doro Omerhi seems to be receiving some interest from UNT. Pearland varsity starting right guard #77 District Champs 22-6a 1st team all-district Taking AP classes and already accepted to UNT https://twitter.com/DOROOMERHI75 http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tx/pearland/pearland-high-school/doro-omerhi http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1878047/highlights/304088384/v2#
  18. North Texas alumnus Adel al-Jubeir was honored as Time Magazine Person of the Week in December 2002. I had the opportunity to meet Adel al-Jubeir at a dinner hosted by Dr Pohl during the early 2000's as part of Dr Pohl's Distinguished Speaker Series. Adel al-Jubeir has been a steadfast opponent to radical terrorist groups, and there was a documented Iranian sponsored assassination attempt several years ago in Washington DC when they attempted to kill Adel al-Jubeir, and bomb both the Saudi and Israeli embassies in the US. Link: Iran Assassination Plot An interesting point to this 2011 plot was that US Federal Judge Andrew Napolitano declared the assassination attempt legally an act of crime. If the plot had been carried out, the United States would have declared it to be an Act Of War by Iran. .
  19. I'm right there with you Got5. DeVante was phenomenal in high school and I would love to see what he could do at the college level with all restraints removed.
  20. I was able to uncover this video, and I believe it holds the concealed information that the impassioned requester requires. The video containing text
  21. Our staff should also check on UNT 2014 signee Fonzale Davis from SOC who didn't qualify and was 'placed' at Kilgore JC.
  22. Interesting note on Jordan Stevenson. He played his junior and senior years at South Oak Cliff, but had previously been a star running back at Dallas Skyline, playing in the backfield with quarterback DeVante Kincade. Stevenson transferred schools when Kincade went to college at Mississippi. 23. ...and put the Honey Bear in there for short yardage goal line situations These guys could be an incredibly entertaining group.
  24. I posted about this possibility (Jordan Stevenson from South Oak Cliff to UNT) earlier this week in the "Combo of English and Kincade" thread. He was incredibly productive in high school and I'd love to have him playing for North Texas.
