  12. If I didn't know who Larry McMurtry was I would be embarrassed to admit it.
  13. VOTE??? Nobody asked me if I liked the new shade of green. I agree with good_ken. It's almost as if the powers that be are afraid that if anything stays around more than a couple of years a tradition might arise.
  14. I grew up in the Wichita Falls area and I am fairly certain that Iowa Park borrowed "Mean Green" from UNT, although I am not certain of this. I do know that I never heard the Iowa Park Hawks referred to as "Mean Green" until after I graduated high school in 1967, and my high school played them every year. My best guess is that UNT popularized "Mean Green," and the Hawks adopted it shortly thereafter.
  15. Screaming Eagle...I arrived at North Texas as a freshman in 1967. I distinctly remember putting a bumper sticker on my car either that fall or the fall of 1968 that said, "Mean Green." The reason I remember is that my brother, a graduate of OU, looked at that bumper sticker and said, "WHAT is a Mean Green?" I answered him, "Oh...that's kinda like a Big Red." Then he understood.
