I was yelling at the TV bc we were only rushing three and generating little pressure, but it hindsight it worked. Our DBs can’t cover so they needed the extra help. One could argue that a pass rush could also help the DBs equally but pretty damn hard to argue with a second half shut out.

Was very happy with the win but I don’t think Aune or that secondary can get it done against Smut. But 1-0 in conference, baby! Will take that any day.

I recall Bennett saying they were deeper this year, perhaps even rotating three deep. Based upon what I saw earlier, our third DTs could be Johnson and LeBlanc, who have a lot of game experience. Our DEs also seem bigger, which should help.

More or less, although there are some guys with playing experience filling in for the departed players, not just new guys. Jackson and Brown played well as backup DTs last year. Faulkner scares me at safety but has played a lot of games. Nixon and Wood have tons of snaps under their belt. Kropp played a fair amount as well. And then the new guys coming in and taking starting roles like Richards and Trieb are high performing transfers from lower levels. Most worried about the secondary but I think we will be ok.

Mazin Richards really shot up the depth chart. Very worried about that second safety position with Faulkner starting. It didn’t seem like he could cover WRs last year and I expect him to be exploited. Still lots of “or” on the chart that hopefully gets sorted out after UTEP.
