As I had been harping on, we need Aune at or above 60 percent completion percentage for this offense to be successful. He wasn’t last week so UTsa kept the box stacked and our RBs had nowhere to go. He was accurate early this week and we had running lanes bc WKy had to put more players in coverage. It’s really that simple. We will have receivers open early in the game because the game plan is to make Aune beat you instead of our run game. Today he did that.

Oh FFS

Which is true. Watching Adam’s breakdown of the running game, a couple of things were clear. Our pulling game works really well if the opposition hasn’t completely sold out against the run. But against UTsa, they extra 1-2 guys disrupted our blocking just enough to cause them to be slightly late getting around or miss enough so the defender could get on a hand on the RB and slow him down resulting in shorter gains (or blowing up the play in some cases). Aune had the opportunity - but not the ability - to throw to WRs in single coverage. Unfortunately, there were some wasted opportunities in the first half. I have noticed that Aune seems to be even more inaccurate when on the move. This is a real shame because with that much pressure coming up the middle he could avoid the rush and rollout to gain time. But it’s all for naught if he can’t hit the receiver. The pass to Shorter early on was a good example. Maybe he should have caught it anyway but the ball was overthrown.

From what I can see, when we did throw the ball early in the game to take advantage of their aggressiveness, Aune missed the receivers.

A more accurate QB beats UTSA and Memphis for sure.

Aune better not see the field again this season

Aune’s completion percentage determines the fate of this team. Teams know they should stack the box and dare us to pass. Aune has consistently proven he can’t complete enough passes to sustain drives and make the defensive back off to open up running lanes. Our defense was exhausted at the end of the game because they rarely had any rest. A 2-3 gain burns twice the clock as an incomplete pass but we only ran the ball 21 times and tried to rely on Aune, who never even hit 50%. UTSA had nearly TWICE as many plays as we did. It is no wonder the D had nothing left in the tank to stop Harris from winning that game. -

This. They dared him to beat them and he couldn’t do it. Under 50% and an INT was the difference in the game. -
Well be prepared to be let down since they can’t announce commitments. Edit: not actually sure how that works with the portal. Anyone know?

Exactly the points I would make. Especially keeping containment on Harris. He is going to get his yards through the air. We can’t afford for him to run for a bunch as well.
-
If he continues to develop and we keep throwing to him, Gumms could be in the Top 10 eventually.

Should We Still Utilize Redshirts? - 2018 HS Signing Class

Not sure I understand why it is a bad thing for a kid to get an extra year in college. Are we so obsessed with salary and consumption that we can’t just we happy a kid gets a free education and a chance to enjoy college life a little while longer? From a practical standpoint, it could be during that “extra” year they mature a little more (making them better prepared for adult life), meet the future spouse, find their true calling, up their game and help the team/ themselves, etc. -
I disagree. It wasn’t the WRs job to recognize the safety was in position to come over and make a play, it was the QBs. The WR had the CB beat and was in position to make the play and was reach out for the ball when the S jumped it.

UNT Football in C-USA 1st place 🥇

Well, those 3-4 teams would be 4-3 had they beaten us. -
They were frustrating at times, but had a nose of TFLs and sacks - something we are sorely missing this year.
