  1. I guess being a backup at Wisconsin is a popular move, or at least more appealing than playing at North Texas!
  2. Bloesh is Cal’s OC.
  3. I was hoping we had ANY East Coast games this season so I could more easily make a game but our F_U games were all in Denton, we didn't play Charlotte, and Marshall and ODU left CUSA. Next year I am back in Europe, otherwise I would absolutely do Miami. I did it from Honduras in 2011 for the beginning of the Mac regime. Shitty weather and not much better play on the field from UNT, but still a trip worth making. Such a horrible, erector set stadium, however.
  4. Could be a hybrid LB/S if that position is still in this new defensive system.
  5. Likely not until spring ball; however, one has to think the new S&C team can work the QB room out at any time to see what kind of S&C plan they need to implement...
  6. Although we have no idea what this team will look like, last year's team with improved coaching/QB play could win 8 in this schedule. Let's hope that's the case.
  7. Good destination for the team and fans. Winnable game on the road. Familiar opponent. Then get them at home in a few years. Makes total sense. Not sexy but solid scheduling given the situation.
  8. Looks like he has a handful of FBS offers already from G5 teams.
  9. looks like he has a ton of FCS offers and then recently added New Mexico and Miami (OH).
  10. I think Addaway is our best back. I wonder if his ankle will limit his portal options.
  11. Did we just offer a D2 RB with 4 carries last year?
  12. Just curious about this now that hires have been announced. Why are almost all of the assistant hires relatively inexperienced if we added so much extra to the assistant money? This post made me think that they planned to add very experienced people to fill these positions but most have not been that at all. Why did we need to spend so much more to hire people less experienced than the staff we let go?
  13. This is wildly inaccurate. I don’t dispute that Seth did not have the best record with QBs but this statement doesn’t hold up to facts. Year one he went with Morris and only went with Fine when Morris struggled. In the first two years after Fine, they tried to do anything but start Aune. Year one it was Bean who started the year and then later came in when Aune struggled and vice versa. Year two it was Ruder who was handed the keys and couldn’t hold on to the job. And even though Aune started this whole year, they brought in three former starting QBs to try to get someone to take the reins from Aune. I think they knew his very obvious limitations and tried to replace him but no one could match his extremely average performance.
  14. Trying to figure out how someone who has never held a position eligible to recruit is considered a strong recruiter. Anyone care to enlighten me?
  15. When I comes to our athletic teams, people know us as North Texas or the Mean Green. This was an intentional choice to create a unique, recognizable brand. It worked. No need to change. Nationally, people who have ever heard of UNT know about us mostly from athletics and say “North Texas” when mentioning the university and “Mean Green” when talking about our teams. Focusing in on Mean Green was possibly the smartest move Rick Villarreal ever made as AD.
  16. Hence the “we” in that sentence. I question most of the hires due to their inexperience. I am not qualified to evaluate their coaching abilities so I can only go off their resumes, which in my opinion are way too short and/or lack little direct experience at the position they were chosen for. I think that is a very logical assessment for a fan to make.
  17. Seems like we are working really hard to justify these coaching hires. That should be a red flag.
  18. I would have been more ok with an experienced DC bringing in young, hungry talented assistants or an upcoming young DC filling in his staff with some solid veteran coaches. I feel like we are getting neither.
  19. Exactly. Was waiting to judge the DC hire based on who they got to support him. This ain’t the type of guy I was expecting.
  20. Don’t be silly. It’s way more than half.
  21. See my above posts. I don’t think Aune was completely to blame. As I mentioned the coaches didn’t develop him or replace him with someone better. Also they relied heavily on a game plan that required the QB to be accurate without an accurate QB. On the flip side, opponents gave him single coverage and he still missed open WRs in the l majority of situations when we needed a completion early in games. Hence the 1 minute drives that led to our defense getting worn out. And not that I didn’t love the quick scores but they also paid a toll on our D. But we struggled with methodical drives and often relied on the deep ball, which seemed to be an all or nothing approach, or receivers breaking short passes to score. I don’t have the stats in front of me but our red zone and short yardage seemed weak again.
