Maybe start Enoch at NT and put Rod at DE. We have a competent NT backup in Moore who reportedly is playing well. This moves Mazin back to LB as an outside pass rusher (quasi fourth lineman). Honestly I don’t know the answer but a 240lb DE in this system isn’t working and our LBs are on the small side. This would improve both problems.

Agreed but in case you didn’t notice, the first half pick six ended up being the difference in the game. Earle’s other two TOs and 50 percent completion rate didn’t help much either. The difference in QB was remarkable.

We don’t lack the size and talent needed to beat powerhouses like FIU, Temple, LaTech, and Tulsa. We are not using the personnel we have appropriately and we didn’t fill the gaps we needed to run the scheme they are trying to force.

It depends. If we win but let LaTech score 50 and barely scrape by because he started Earle who turned the ball over a bunch only to have Rogers come in and save the day: no. If we have a solid offensive performance and Tech scores under 30, then yes - a little. But would then need to blow out ACU, and beat one of Navy or Temple without getting embarrassed in either game. Then we will see. Anything other than the above should result in a new DC at least.

I don’t buy the argument that Morris came too late to build with the portal. We lost all our best players after his arrival so obviously others were able to bring in people after early December. Players were out there.

Robertson leaving definitely makes more sense. We didn’t need another undersized DE and maybe he didn’t want to or couldn’t play LB. I honestly don’t understand how we don’t have DL depth. We had enough linemen to play a four man front so now we have too many DL. I know they aren’t the ideal size but maybe move some guys around. We have three legit 300 lbs guys, so can we play one at DE? This system doesn’t seemed to be designed for the DL to be primarily play makers anyway so let the bigger guy play end and take up more space. Mazin can - and should - play LB. Put Mazin at MLB (and Kadren Johnson) and let the smaller LBs play outside and rush the passer and cover RBs/TEs as needed. Does that make sense?

One thing worth mentioning: only two tackles for loss last night. You can probably get that many in a game accidentally.

What I didn’t understand was why we consistently only put 5 in the box, even in run situations and after they and Cal had so much success against that.

If the primary receiver is open, Earle is a pretty good QB. If not, he isn’t. Does seem to read the field very well.
