If I lived in Denton, I'd go to most all of the basketball games. I am planning on coming to one of the Saturday home games in February, but driving up from Austin is more of "an event" for the football games. That said.... I've been listening to some of the games and following the team this year. The team's record is a big plus, especially with some nice OOC wins. But know this......none of it means anything at this point. The Coach has to ride this team and get them to peak in the SUN BELT TOURNEY! In this conference, a good record gets you nothing but a good conference seed. And, every conference tourney is a toss up really. The automatic bid goes to the Tourney Champ. Twenty wins in the BELT gets nothing. In The Belt....You have to win the tournament to go to The Dance. If you want to get entertained....go watch the team pile up some nice regular season wins. BUT if you want to get EXCITED, then the team has to win some tournament games! I went to the Tourney in Salt Lake in the late 80's and saw NT get served up as meat to North Carolina. But...they made it and was damn cool.

I totally agree with FFR. Anyone fired should pack and go right then and there. It doesn't make ANY difference if you get serious jack from the school or not. Besides, Dickey could have pulled a "John Machovic" (UT) and stayed at the school, let them "reassign" him, and get paid in full. After all, he had a contract and could have done so....not that it wouldn't hurt him if he wanted a coaching job in the future.....Now THAT would be spite, people. Anyway...the point is: You get fired, there are emotions involved and people are flawed to begin with. Bad mix.

If DD wanted to make a negative statement by wearing all black uniforms, or piss off some fans/admin people off by doing it, then he must be laughing his butt off. He got exactly the reaction and emotional response he wanted. But the thing is....he got that response only from those exact people he wanted to irritate. The rest don't care at all. Nada... Zilch....What a brilliant move. Okay...the dude got fired. Most people that get fired aren't real happy about it. PLUS...when you get fired, you usually don't have to show up at work for another month and still work the job. Can you imagine working at Grandy's? You're stirring up the instant potatos and cleaning the bathrooms. One day...you sneeze on the chicken one too many times and get fired...only, you must continue to work there for a few more weeks. That would be totally bogus. God only knows what you would do to get back at the management for taking away your career. I choose not to think about it since I've eaten at Grandy's since it was Granny's Chick-A-Gogo on University. (BTW, my brother worked there for two weeks in the late seventies. He made the mashed potatos and cleaned the bathrooms....I swear!) ANYWAY...my point is: (what was it? oh yeah) I'd rather he'd wear all black if that's the worst of it.

Don't worry.... I read an article in the Austin paper last week that Akron is in the bottom 5 in attendance. It said they average about 5-6 thousand a game.

OOC wins are nice.....but quickly forgotten by the outside fan. Teams that go to bowls get noticed. Office bowl pools show the schools who play in December and January, not who beat who in September. I'd like to see some OOC wins, but nothing is better than going to, and winning a bowl. The bigger bowl the better. Our bowl is surely not so grand, but it is the first bowl of the season and is noticed. Troy's close losses show me something, but a loss is a loss is November and no one really cares.

On a lighter note: I just realized what a "Golden Hurricane" really is. I was sitting here drinking several cold Nattys and had to pee. Now, earlier in the day I took a large dose of vitamins, just so you know. When I flushed...presto: a Golden Hurricane!

I am watching Tulsa's video and listening to the North Texas home broadcast on my computer. I found the video's audio feed came through on my left speaker only, MeanGreen's radio on my right speaker only. I disconnected the left speaker. Looks and sounds great! Go Mean Green!

I've been to many UT/NT games; and lately there has been absolutely nothing to cheer about when watching those games! However, I found myself cheering several times.....much to my surprise and to the dismay of the UT fans around me. (Yes I was the LONE green guy in a sea of Burnt Orange. No...I didn't sit with the NT fans because I had the chance to sit under the shaded overhang and I took it!) Remember....NT was playing the defending National Champs and I was hoping for only a few things. First....I wanted us to score a touchdown. I figured we might have a chance to do this on a special teams mishap....which darn near happened in the first quarter. We got a gift and couldn't punch it in. Then...blocked field goal. (BTW, the player who blocked it is one away from setting the school record.) I thought our chance was missed.......but we put together a hell of a drive and scored to open the second half. The stadium was STUNNED! The UT fans around me were dead silent! Second...I wanted us to hold them under 60 points. Sorry to say it, but I thought that would be a decent showing since I knew our defense would be tired as the game went on. Other things I really liked: With the first quarter coming to an end....the score was only 7-0! I was amazed. UT scored at the end of the quarter, but considering the opening drive for an easy TD, I thought the NT's D stepped up. They forced punts?!?! Wow... With the first half coming to an end, we were down only 21-0. They scored to close the half, but I thought that was very respectable too. Now....think of it like this (and I choose to!) If we score early on UT's botched punt return and again to open the second half...like we did...AND UT doesn't get that late first half score, then the score is 21-14. Now...I know that is a lot of "would haves and could haves" but what the heck. I don't think UT looked all that great, actually..... (By the way, I really like to use the "......") Later

Why can't you stop Vince Young if he is the main option in the offense? If you and everyone elso knows he's going to run the ball for 200 yards......why can't the 2 time defending National Champs do something about it? Vince was a man among boys in that game....and two of those boys had Heisman Trophies. As far as the Michael Vick comparisons are concerned....time will tell. Vick hasn't impressed me in the NFL just yet. So to try to tell me who is going to be better......at this point.....just is dumb. You have no clue......yet! If you can't watch that performance and appreciate it for what it was, then you have no business calling yourself a football fan.

I can't see that. By the way....each playoff game is like Bowl win. It's like playing four bowls in one year. The atmosphere is unbelievable. They keep getting better and better. There is NO doubt in my mind that TS would have beaten us this year.

By the way...I called Monday to get tickets for Friday's game. They went on sale Monday and were sold out on Monday. I think that is awesome!
