It is my belief that the P5 will shrink down to a P4. There are "haves" that will become "have nots", I don't think anyone who isn't a P5 today has a shot at the P4.

He doesn't need to break 300 yards. He just needs to keep doing the incredible things he is doing. He threw for 31 TD / 16 INT last year. About 2-1. He is at 16 TD / 1 INT this year. He would need to throw for seven straight interceptions without a TD to drop the TD/INT ratio to 2-1. He took 39 sacks last year and is at 9 this year. Did the OL drastically improve? Or is he making decisions faster, including dumping the ball when needed. His completion rate is up, his YPA is up. Everything is incredible. Those 3 games you are dogging on him for he threw for 296, 294, and 292 yards. 6 TD / 0 INT. About 65% pass completion. That should be more than enough to win if the defense does their job and the run game has any success at all.

UAB has 35+ RS seniors. A ton of RS juniors as well. They received special wavers when they started up the program so some of them are 24 or 25. Grown men. There will likely be a big drop off next year, but this year they are likely the toughest team we will face. They easily handled LaTech 28-7. No doubt we are the best offense they have seen. Offense needs to play lights out.

It's not confusing. Demand is much higher than supply. Yes, Texas is talent rich but there are 12 FBS teams here and every single P5 conference in the nation recruits here heavily. Last year we lost tackles late to Call and Iowa.

It's not that big of a head scratcher. Through more than a half the USM offense had put up 7 points. Yeah they moved the ball some and almost scored more points, but we almost beat LaTech. Neither almost counts for anything. They had a QB battle that the second string qb almost won, and who had played last year. Coach was just looking for an offensive spark. They didn't get it. We can argue if the decision was a good one or not, but the motive seems clear to me.

Conservatively you think we lose three out of UAB, Rice, ODU, FAU, and UTSA? Seems pessimistic.
