Is it too late to cougshirt everyone? -
Thems the jokes. Dickey was a very funny guy. Remember who he worked for, that's a tough row to hoe.

So, doing what the coach wants = selfish? Doing what the coach doesn't want = selfish?
-
No that is where you are wrong. The coaches truly thought the best way to win those games with the talent we had was to play to our strengths, run the clock, and be within striking distance. Whats the alternative? Get in a track meet? Dodge tried that, did you go to that first OU game? I did, and the only reason they didn't score 100 on us is because Stoops didn't want to. You may not have liked the gameplan, if for some unknown reason you had been in charge you would have made a different gameplan, but the fact of the matter is that the coaches thought that game plan was the best way to win. Not to get the game over with without trying to win. Just thinking that proves to me you have no idea what kind of people college football players and coaches are. They are never going to do anything except try and win.

I commend you. I don't remember if you bad mouthed any of the players, but if you did, sending them a nice handwritten note would probably go a long way. 🙂
-
No, because they aren't 12 year olds. They will tell you you are wrong, which you are.
-
The coaching staff didn't either. Everyone on the team tried to win those games, you may disagree with how the coaches structured things, but they did those things to try and win those games. I never understand why everyone bad talks those accomplishments.

The next time you meet a Dickey player tell him they layed down for their OOC games. A bunch of those Letterman are at every home game, I'm sure they would love to discuss this idea.

I wonder if all those people who jumped up and down on the red-shirting players and called them quitters and "what's killing college football" are now go to do the same to Holgerson. You know, guy who is getting paid $3.7M this year to "let down all the other players who worked so hard for selfish reasons."

Stop searching the dark web for designer drugs and it won't keep popping up. Aren't you in Eastern Europe anyway? That's where the dark web lives, just go outside and ask for some.

Diagnosing the bad taste that won't go away after the Houston loss

North Texas fans seem to take solace in bashing their own conference, whether we win it or not. Everyone bashed the SBC, everyone bashed the BWC, everyone bashed the SLC. I wasn't around for it but I am sure people bashed the Missouri Valley, Gulf Coast, and Lone Star. -
I can't think of any G5 program (besides BSU) who has been able to not have to go through periodic down times. Marshall went on an absolute tear for six straight bowl games, but then missed out 5 of the next 6 years. USM went to 10 straight, but then missed out on 4 straight. I am not happy with the current state we are in, but really it's just a year early. It was going to take some time to adjust to the post Fine era, it just looks like we are having to start doing some of that now.

No I don't, because I think you are choosing to believe in an alternative reality that doesn't exist. Why? At first it was "amateur = no compensation". Then it when people started to give compensation there was a bunch of gnashing of teeth and claims this was the end of college football, except it didn't end. Then people said fine "amateur = compensation in the form of an athletic scholarship". Then when the stipend was first introduced there was more gnashing of teeth and claims this was the end of college football, except it didn't end. Then people said, alright, "amateur = compensation in the form of an athletic scholarship and a stipend". Now, people are discussing allowing student athletes the right to their own name and image, and now there a bunch of gnashing of teeth (along with some good old rending of clothes) and the usual claims this was the end of college football. College football survived all that teeth gnashing before. In fact it's gotten bigger over time. Sports change, I hate the DH but it's never going away. The forward pass is legal. We'll adjust to this as well. If compensation = College football is dying then it's been dying for about 145 of the 150 years it has existed. They don't. But they do have have legislative control of the money that the state sends to California universities, and if they want to continue to receive that money from the state they have to follow state law. A new law says a state university can't remove an athletic scholarship or stipend if a student athlete exercises their right to own, and profit from, their own name and image. That's all the law says. It doesn't say the university has to pay a single penny more to anyone, just that they can't prevent student athletes from exercising a right every other student has. Look this is the NCAA's fault. They new for years this was going to happen, and they never even formed the committee they said (in 2014) they would to address it. They can't ban the California schools, New York, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and Oklahoma has people working on similar bills. What are they going to do, ban the SEC, B12, and PAC12 from the CFP?

Good. Grief. If any of you honestly think that college football in it's current form is an amateur sport, then I don't know what to tell you. Real amateur college football ended a few years after it started. First college football game was 1869, by the mid 1870s dozens of colleges provide financial incentives to play. The era of the "fake amateur" college football came to an end when OU won NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma. Once the television money came into CFB, it was just a professional sport, just one where leadership managed to convince 1) the buyers that they needed to pay huge money to watch it, and 2) the workers that they didn't need to get paid. It was fun (for the NCAA and the colleges) while it lasted. College Football is a 14 BILLION dollar industry. It isn't an amateur sport and it hasn't been for a long time. PS: If what you really care about is "amateur" status, the soccer team would love to see you buy season ticket. Track and Field has a really nice new facility for you to check out as well.
