  1. Not over... yet.
  2. I don't have time to type up the sources right now, but some more details have emerged from various channels. Implementation deadline is Jan 2021 Each division will form a working group to come up necessary rule changes. Each division will draw up its own rules, which means FBS/FCS will have the same rules. Would not follow "California model" of unrestricted freedom. NCAA would likely have "role" in all endorsement deals. NCAA states they would strongly prefer a uniform national law Interesting corollary: Mark Walker (R-NC) has drawn up a federal bill to that would force the NCAA to give up the ability to govern student athlete image rights, or have the NCAA lose tax status.
  3. I agree, that's the problem. Coaching is about making the most out of what you have.
  4. You should have mimeographed this message off to all your friends as soon NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma, 468 U.S. 85 (1984) was handed down. Once that much big money was injected into the system, the old system of college football was dead.
  5. FootballScoop: NCAA announces it is moving forward to allow college athletes name, image and likeness rights
  6. Pretty sure the NCAA doesn't know yet. Guidance to follow.
  7. Still a lot of unanswered questions.
  8. No, the 3-3-5 is for people who can't keep a rotation of NT/1Techs, and who tend to recruit db/lb tweeners. Good athletes but either a little small to be great LBs or a not have the coverage skills to be a shutdown island guy. Cover db's are incredibly rare, the only thing rarer than them is effective interior linemen. When those guys are identified, they get swept up by p5s. The 3-3-5 is supposed to take those tweeners and put them in a system that causes mass confusion to the offense. Except we seem to line up in it and then play conventional schemes and then use not enough pressure, and not have it come from different angles, which has not worked at all.
  9. I doubt we'll see any major playing time changes unless we fall out of bowl eligibility. I think SL knows the optics on that would be terrible.
  10. That isn't how probability works. They had the chances of us winning at 63.7% In other words if we played them 1000 times we would win 637 of those games and lose 363. Probability >50% doesn't mean a guaranteed win, and <50% doesn't mean a guaranteed loss.
  11. We need all hands on deck when it comes to recruiting. I don't ever want to see an official coach not bust his ass on recruiting. It has come to bite us more than once. Only the HC and his 11 assistants can coach on game days and go out to recruit. Having a RC is important to coordinate the recruiters efforts and make the campus visits memorable, but they can't actually go and recruit.
  12. Sometimes he'll pull an interior DL and bring in an extra LB. Especially against pass catching RBs or a big running QB.
  13. Patterson's D is a base 4-2-5, he just runs a 3 man front on some passing downs.
  14. But with, you know, a DC that will actually leave campus to recruit.
  15. I'm about to create an SMU sub forum on this site...
  16. Special Case. They not only were able to get transfers without them losing a year of eligibility, all of their transfers and recruits had their eligibility clock paused while the program was shut down for two years.
  17. Unless something has changed recently, coaches recruit by territory. You may be the running backs coach, but you'll try to recruit anyone in your area, regardless of that recruit's position. Now the actual position coaches will often have say into whether or not a recruit is worth the offer, the coordinators will have more, but the final decision to offer that scholarship or not is up to the HC. Coordinators have a lot of input into the process because all the coaches are recruiting to their scheme.
  18. It is.
  19. You guys are acting like most kids aren't already passing up an offer from North Texas to be the Alabama's 4th string left guard.
  20. If that happens, that's on them. I was a freelance programmer during my college years, and I always filed my taxes correctly. If compensation for your likeness becomes approved I am sure every institution will take time to train student athletes on their responsibilities.
