No, they need 7 teams who all play mens and womens D1 basketball to be a multisport conference. That is the minimum for a D1 conference. They need 8 full (as in not part of the FCS->FBS transition program) FBS members to be an FBS conference. Being an FBS is probably out of the question now. But if they can get to 7 they can stay a D1 multisport.

Fry has him beat, and he did it in six years compared to Dickey's 9. 1974 SDSU 8-2-1 1975 Tennesse 7-5 1976 LaTech 6-5 1977 West Texas A&M 6-4-1 1977 Memphis 6-5 1977 LaTech 9-1-2 1978 NMSU 6-5 1978 USM 1978 7-4 1978 ULM 6-4-1 Still, that's one a year.

7 more than Traylor, which is who we are talking about. Also, you probably don't want me to go through the record for every other coach. He probably has everyone except Odus Mitchell beat.

That's the standard for coaching contracts. Usually it is some percentage of base pay (in his case 60%) x years left on the contract. It goes down as the number of remaining years goes down.

It's not over till the fat lady sings, though I think she might be warming up. CUSA just needs to convince 4 D1 basketball schools to join, that keeps them alive as multisport conference, even if the 3 FBS schools have to go independent. If they can just limp along for a couple of years they can still receive exit fees from 11 schools, somewhere in the $33M-$45M range, that's a lot of incentive for those schools.

Your Preference - Background of a new HC

Good call. But remember that OR% and DR% is a much better metric than the flat rebound total. -
I'm old and I was never that sharp in the first place.

Fry was 44 when he came to NT, Patteron is 61. 4 years older than Danny Mac when he came here. I'm not saying it would be a terrible move, but I have heard from TCU boosters than GP has really stepped back in recruiting and day to day operations.

Side judge threw his hat, means he saw the WR go out of bounds but judged he was forced out and therefore a eligible receiver. -

Missing those deep routes isn't totally on the QBs. If a WR goes up and gets his hands on the ball he has to come down with it. -

The Death Knell of C-USA continues to toll
Cerebus replied to UNT Texas Hooligan's topic in Mean Green Football
CUSA isn't going to die. It would be great for us if they disbanded because it would save us the fees, but they'll limp along to gather those. NT is moving to the AAC because we have spent $130M in facilities in the last decade, and we have a total coaching pool higher than some P5 schools. Commitment, commitment, commitment from the school and the donors. That is why, that's not luck. If the AAC had not expanded to 14, we would have moved to the MWC. Again, not luck. Some of you are in a tizzy because we are bad on the field right now. It doesn't help that UTSA has caught lightning in a bottle with their last coaching hire. However, believe it or not we are in a better position. Neither of us is the top of the food chain, any good coaching hires we have will get poached. Having the better underlying program will make it more likely that you can hire another promising coach. At the end of this year, NT and UTSA are both likely to be looking for new coaches. NT will have a better program to sell candidates. That's what really matters. No matter how much this particular year sucks. -
The Death Knell of C-USA continues to toll
Cerebus replied to UNT Texas Hooligan's topic in Mean Green Football
I disagree. AAC reached out to the MWC teams, AFA and CSU were extremely tempted and wanted to make the jump, why? Because they recruit heavily in Texas and they want to have games in Texas. Specifically, they want away games in recruiting hotbeds so they can invite Texas recruits to see them. Now, they were unwilling to make the jump this time because they didn't want to be separated from Boise. What the AAC has done is take away all the Texas recruiting hotspots from the MWC. In the future, AFA/CSU are going to have to decide which is more important, getting those Texas recruits, or sticking in the MWC. If Boise does leave for the B12, it should be much easier for the AAC to pull them out if they want them. -
The Death Knell of C-USA continues to toll

You need 8 full FBS members to stay an FBS conference, but you only need 7 members who play D1 mens and womens basketball to be an all sports conference. In that scenario the remaining FBS football schools would have to become FBS independents, but CUSA would continue to exist to receive those exit fees. The conference would invite FCS schools who plan to transition to FBS, and once thy have they can re-certify as an FBS conference. Finding 4 more teams willing to that won't be easy, but the alternative is giving up all those fees. If they need to I bet the remaining teams would be willing to share them to help some FCS teams make the transition -
McMurphy is wrong on this. NCAA Bylaw 20.02.6 states that for a conference to keep FBS status they need to have eight football playing members that meet all FBS requirements. However, don't think our exit fees go away even if CUSA loses FBS status. They only need seven members to be a multi sport division one conference. They can get to seven members, probably a mix of current FBS independents and FCS schools who want to transition to FBS. If they can't get to eight FBS members right away, the current CUSA members can go independent until the new members move to FBS and then reform the FBS CUSA. They'll have $27M in exit fees to re-distribute to keep them afloat until that happens.

CUSA will continue to exist as a conference. It has an NCAA tourney autobid, which is GOLD, because it’s widely believed no NEW conference would ever get an autobid again. So it doesn’t matter who leaves CUSA. The conference will be able to attract new teams due to its FBS status and it’s autobid. My guess is Liberty, JMU, and NMSU are already burning up the lines. it doesn’t even matter if every fbs team leaves CUSA. The conference will exist and collect those exit fees and distribute them to whoever the new members are. That’s what happened to the Big West and the WAC. The only possible out is that some conferences have a provision in their membership agreement that states that if X number of teams leave then the conference dissolves. I have never heard of CUSA having that provision.
