Looking back on my season prediction

I would rather be a sandbagger than someone that blindly follows a person without regard to results. And who says worms are bad? -

Eagle-96 replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
So if we critcize DD for his abysmal non-conference record and and his stubborness with respect to running the ball at 9-man fronts ad nauseum we are treating him harshly and/or unfairly? That's rich. -

OK, then explain your point. Do you even know what a sandbagger is? -

Well, there you have it. The fake Johnny Bench says that we are worm eating sandbaggers if we bag on DD. It is official. We are not allowed to question the coach no matter how bad we lose or who we lose to. Any dissent will be met with an iron fist. All offenders will be thrown into a gulag and alternately flogged about the head and shoulders with an autographed copy of Bootleggers Boy and a bag of sporks. -

Mean Green Offense Feeling Blue 10:25 AM CDT on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 By Jeff Fatha & Joe Mama Special Contributors to The Denton Record Chronicle The Mean Green offense has been struggling early in the 2005 season to find consitency. The duo of Hut Alred and Abner Haynes have found little room to run after big pre-season expectations. Quarterback Scott Davis has looked average completing few passes and rushing for even fewer. Freshman back-up Ken Washington has seen limited action but has not faired much better. The offensive line has been offensive for lack of a better word. Starters. Philip Armour, P.B. Stovall, Quincy Armstrong, Brian Waters, and Glen Holloway. Have given up 8 sacks and have provided few holes for the running game to get going. Coach Rod Rust has shown frustration with the execution from the players and points to the downfiled blocking of receivers John Love and Troy Redwine as examples of not paying attention to the little things that can make a difference. "I think that the kids need to step it up and start executing the game plan that I have put into place". If the team doesn't start clicking, you will see dwindling support and few fans at Eagle Stadium. Tight End Luis Silva sums it up well, "If we can't execute the wing T to perfection like coach Rust expects, we won't see many fans the rest of the year".

It's one thing to print the incorrect name but he did it FIVE times. It's like the Denton Wreckord Chronicle isn't even trying anymore.

http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...0&ATCLID=190833 Second Straight Top 10 Finish By Graham Paces The Mean Green Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 09/27/2005 NEWPORT, Rhode Island (9/27/05) – For the second straight tournament, North Texas redshirt freshman Harris Graham has posted a top 10 finish, this time at the Adams Cup of Newport Classic to pace the men’s golf team to a seventh place finish. Graham, playing in only his second tournament for the Mean Green, shot a final round of 4-over 76, and finished tied for 10th place with a three round score of 228. North Texas climbed a spot after the second round to finish in seventh place in an elite field of 16 teams with a three-round score of 931. “I wish that we could have done a little better than we did, but I did start to see some more consistency out of our guys which I was looking for,” said North Texas head coach Jim Bob Jackson. “We are getting there as a team and I’m really excited about this group and there potential”. Sophomore Anthony Broussard fired a final round of 5-over par 77 and closed out his three-rounds at 233, tied for 25th. Austin Welch was three shots behind Broussard and tied for 34th with a 236 for the tournament. Senior Andreas Kali had his best round of the tournament after struggling the first day as he fired a final round of 4-over par 76 to finish at 240. KT Livingston shot an 84 in the final round and had a three-round total of 242. North Texas is back in action on October 10-11 at the Missouri Bluffs Classic in St. Charles, Mo.

You will need a TV to be able to see the game from the endzone seats.

Let’s lighten Up – Any Trojan jokes
Eagle-96 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
A football fan walks into a small shop in Troy. He spots a bottle labeled “Mean Green Football Player Brains” , $5 an ounce. He asks the clerk if there are any other bottles. The clerk replies, “Well, we’ve got Ragin Cajun brains for $10 an ounce, and Trojan brains for $1,000,000 an ounce.” The man says, “Why the big difference in price?” The clerk answers,”Do you know how many Trojan football players we have to kill to get an ounce of brains!” -
http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...0&ATCLID=190694 Graham Leads North Texas After The First Day Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 09/26/2005 NEWPORT, Rhode Island (9/26/05) – Blustery conditions greeted the North Texas men’s golf team at the first day of the Adams Cup of Newport, but that didn’t stop freshman Harris Graham from posting a top 10 score after the first 36 holes. Graham shot a three-over par 75 as the winds wrecked havoc on the entire field with only one player shooting under par in the first round of play. In the second round Graham fell back with a 77, but remains only six shots behind the leaders at 152. No player fired a two-round score of under-par as the conditions at Newport National Golf Club worsened throughout the day. North Texas is alone in eighth place after back-to-back rounds of 310, 17 shots behind the leader Texas A&M who carded a two round score of 603. Austin Welch rebounded in the second round with a 76 and posted a two-round score of 154, two shots behind Graham and tied for 18th place. Anthony Broussard is two shots behind Welch after a second round of 77. KT Livingston is at 158 after the first day and Andreas Kali fired a score of 164. The field of 17 teams features such powers as North Carolina, Houston, Iowa State, Georgetown, and Texas A&M. In a tightly bunched group, North Texas sits only 11 shots behind second place South Carolina-Aiken heading into the final round. The third round of the 12th annual Adams Cup of Newport begins tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

I may be sick and tired of the non-conference losses, but I'll be there and so will my wife, and she's an Aggie. If she makes it then everyone better make it(Those driving from Houston excluded). -

What have you been smoking. Our roster includes: 44 Freshman(that includes red-shirts that have been practicing and in the system for 1 year) 22 Sophomores 20 Juniors 12 Seniors Team youth and inexperience explains the crappy performance in this years non-conference schedule. How about the last 10 years? We have been back at D1A since 1995. Boise State made the move up the same year(they were Division 2 from 1973-1977, D1AA from 1978-1995). Let's look at their records during that span: 1995: 7-4 1996: 2-10 1997: 4-7 1998: 6-5 1999: 10-3 2000: 10-2 2001: 8-4 2002: 12-1 (AP #15, Coaches #12) 2003: 13-1 (AP #16, Coaches #15) 2004: 13-1 (AP #12, Coaches #13) 4-1 in Bowl games in that span. They seem to be doing alright and they have to recruit kids to IDAHO. 81 of the players are from out of state.

All you DD lovers - I have a question?
Eagle-96 replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
Are you kidding me? We can't even sell out Fouts as the four time conference champs. If we went 0-11 you'd see just how empty the stadium would be. That is a ridiculous statement about finger pointing. Just because you voice your opinion about a terrible OOC record does not make you a bandwagoner. -

Eagle-96 replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
You seem to be skewing the numbers as well: OOC record for 2001-2004 4-20 We have beaten Baylor, Troy, Cincinnati, and Nichols State in that span. Add two more OOC losses this year so far and his record is 30-23 overall but 4-22 in OCC. -
This board is so funny sometimes....
Eagle-96 replied to GoMeanGreen1999's topic in Mean Green Football
You're right, if your idea of fine is winning the possibly the worst conference ever assembled again. We are better than 7 of the worst teams in college football, SO WHAT. The first couple of titles in 2001 and 2002 were great because we hadn't done that in forever and a day. Now more and more people are realizing that we're just the prettiest turd in the yard. We may be the prettiest but we're still a turd in the college football landscape. -
We are hurting in many areas. It would take a PMG-length diatribe to name even half of them but one stands above the rest to me and it is quarterback. Mitch Maher was one of the best quarterbacks to ever lead the North Texas offense. He could hit the deep ball. He could hit the out to the wide side of the field. He could go over the middle. He could throw any pass with zip and accuracy. We all got a taste of what he meant to the team when Jason Mills led the team against then NE Louisiana in the meaningless 1994 regular season finale. For five years we had a revolving door of quarterbacks that could not get the job done. Mills, Corley, Bridges, Attaway, McClain, Gully. Then Scott Hall and Andrew Smith came around and we were solid at quarterback. Hall graduated and we all know the tragedy involving Smith. We lose Byerly to grades and now we are starting a quarterback who if we don't lose Smith would probably be a 3rd string guy. Inexperience at quarterback is what's really holding this offese back(wow there's a revelation nobody on the board knew). We are NO THREAT to pass. Southern Miss knew it, MUTS knew it, Tulsa knew it, Kansas State knew it. EVERYONE knows it. Every team from here on out will stack the box with 8-9 and dare us to pass which we will not be able to do. Meager is simply not a threat to throw downfield and if it is because he has not fully healed from his shoulder injury then he has no business being in there. If Meager can't throw the ball at 100% then get Philips in there. DD stated that Meager missed reads about 70% of the time against MUTS. I don't see much improvement from him. Meager may turn out to be one of the best that's ever played for us but right now his inexperience is hurting us more than anything else and it is going to take time for him to gain experience. We may be in for a long 1995 or 2000 type season.

Offensive personnel we lose next season
Eagle-96 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Since Lineberry was a partial qualifier when we recruited him, he can play next year if he graduates this year. Much like Jonas Buckles did. -
You make some great point Emmitt but think about what you said. ""The Sun Belt defenses ARE NOT, let me repeat are not, of Tulsa or K-state's caliber". We are the best of THE WORST conference in football. We have beaten the worst teams in America the last four years and that is it. Are you guys happy being #95? Are you happy being the best of the worst? If you are then more power to ya.
-
The point of a fan discussion board is to discuss games. We have every right to complain about the caoches, players, administration, and whatever else we want to after 2 abysmal games like that(not to mention the last 8 years of OOC games). It is because we don't complain that outcomes like yesterdays have become acceptable to the administration.
