http://www.sunbeltsports.org/ViewArticle.d...;ATCLID=1211055 Sun Belt Football Players of the Week Announced Offensive Player of the Week Fitzgerald broke North Texas and Sun Belt Conference records for receiving yards in a game and broke the Sun Belt Conference record for receptions in a game when he caught 18 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-31 loss to SMU. Fitzgerald’s 327 yards was the fourth-most in NCAA Div. I history for a single game. He averaged 18.2 yards per catch, which included a long of 66 yards. His touchdown receptions came from 25 and 26 yards out. He entered the game with 12 career receptions, which included seven in the season-opener last week. His performance this week makes him the nation’s leading receiver with 226.5 yards per game. Fitzgerald broke the North Texas receiving record that had stood since 1992.

What is the name of the paint company as some mean green fans may want to throw some business their way?

How many recruits were either at the game or checked the stats in the paper or on tv and are now salivating over the prospect of playing for such a prolific offense. We may not have won on the SCOREBOARD(we all understand that wins are the most important thing D2007), but we may have gotten some players to think a little more about playing for Dodge. Getting the right players in this offense will only speed up the process.
-
Pardon us for getting excited about an entire years worth of passing stats from Dickeyball in one night of Dodgeball. We didn't win but once again this is the SECOND GAME under this new regime and everyone is still learning. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you regarding the team not finishing but we need to give this team some time. Belt teams will not be able to handle this offense.
-
And we are just getting started.
-
Is it out of the realm of possibility that we could be looking at season records in the following manner: Meager: 4000 yards passing(needs to average 329 per game) Fitzgerald 100 rec for 1500 yards(needs to average a little over 7 catches and 104 yards per game) BJax 75 rec for 1000 yards(needs to average 6 catches and 78 yards per game)

SUE, I couldn't have said it better myself. So I won't.
-
Smitty, I'm not sure everybody gets it and I just don't understand why. I guess I'll reiterate it. This is the SECOND GAME in this new system. I don't know how many times it has to be said. It is gonna take time to jell on offense and defense. When we we're at the one yard line, I knew we were gonna score. I can not say that of any DD offense. This team has heart and determination. It does not quit. Roman is coached when to actually take the fair catch and when to signal and then get away. He is signaling with no intention of catching the ball when he is inside the 15. THAT IS HOW HE AND EVERY OTHER RETURN MAN ON EARTH IS COACHED. If you are one of the ones that didn't like how Roman handled it, then blame coach Dodge not Roman. He is gonna do what he is told. Don't like the 10-15 yard cushion he is giving to receivers? Blame coach Mendoza cause that is the play that is called. Do you guys really think that they call a play and Evyn just goes out there and says," Hmmm, I think I'll defy my coaches and jam the receiver on this play". Get real. And another thing. Justin Willis is a damn good quarterback so let's not take anything away from him.

I Must Have Watched A Different Game Than Many
Eagle-96 replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
It is absolutley ridiculous to lay this loss on Meager. The TEAM lost the game not any one player. Meager played his a$$ of along with every other player on our team. Dodge expects no less. We witnessed one of the greatest offensive displays in school history and everyone wants to focus on Meager's interceptions as the reason for the loss. How about Kelvin Drake snapping the ball three miles all the way back to the 26 yard line. Want to bench him? How about Fitz dropping a sure touchdown when we are up 14-3. Want to bench him? SMU's punter had a better average than Spencer. How about we bench him. Mendoza didn't run his pick back for a touchdown like SMU did. He should ride the pine for sure. Give these guys a chance. We wouldn't have even been in position to win if it weren't for Meagers play to get us to that point. The loss hurts but let's all step back and take a dose of reality. The entire team lost this game and I assure you that they will be working for the next 2 weeks to correct their mistakes and improve. Watch out FAwho because their will be some angry Eagles that come down upon you at Fouts Field. -
I think these are the points that need to be looked at most closely. The offense performed like that in its SECOND GAME. This is what gives me hope going into the rest of the season. What will this offense look like towards the meat of Sunbelt play.

Wow! Nt 3rd In Nation In Passing Offense
Eagle-96 replied to GreenTiger_OriginalAcct's topic in Mean Green Football
Fitzgerald is the number 1 receiver in the NCAA with 226 yards per game and number 3 with 12.5 receptions per game BJax is number 17 with 108 yards per game and number 9 with 8.5 catches per game. Meager is number 7 with 343 yards of total offense per game -
The saddest part is that Rich Phillips is a UNT grad.

Please Provide Some In-game Updates
Eagle-96 replied to SouthBendGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Tap the brakes guys. Meager just threw for 597 yards in ONE game. Fitzgerald had 326 yards receiving and Bjax had over 100. Sure Meager had three picks but if you think the offense cost us this game then you are wrong. This is our SECOND GAME in this new offense and we just broke the single game passing and receiving records. It is gonna take time for the team to get where we want to be but we just put up 634 yards of total offense. This offense is only going to get better. And remember when high school seniors that play on the offensive side of the ball see these kind of stats they will start salivating over playing in this kind of offense. We may have lost on the scoreboard, but we may be winning some recruiting battles with this kind of output. And please explain to me how this defense was going to be the clear strength of this team. We may have brought back a majority of the starting defense from last year but that goes out the window because last years defense stunk. This defense hasn't been good since Gary DeLoach left. -

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...n.af577ebf.html 70 cars burglarized in Denton Vehicles at 4 apartment complexes targeted in one night of break-ins 02:23 PM CDT on Friday, September 7, 2007 By DONNA FIELDER / Denton Record-Chronicle A day after burglars swarmed through four Denton apartment complex parking lots, breaking windows and stripping available property out of 70 vehicles, police had few leads to follow, a sergeant said. They took “everything from loose change to car stereos,” said Detective Sgt. Brad Curtis. “We don’t have an estimate yet on the dollar amount, but there has to be between $6,000 and $10,000 in broken windows alone.” Sgt. Curtis said he believes the criminals hit the complex lots between 1 and 4 a.m. Thursday. Vehicle owners from the Coventry Apartments in the 500 block of South Interstate 35E, Oak Meadows at 1804 Teasley Lane, The Ridge in the 2700 block of Colorado Boulevard, and Campus Park at 1541 Meadow St. reported burglaries. “Every one of them was along the I-35 corridor,” Sgt. Curtis said. “I’m pretty sure they’re all going to be related.” The sergeant said he did not know why the four complexes were selected for the crimes or how the burglars chose the vehicles they broke into. Most were locked, he said. Investigators still are working to determine whether the burglaries could be connected to similar large burglary sweeps in Fort Worth recently. Sgt. Curtis said no witnesses had come forward. With that many windows breaking, he’s hoping someone saw something they did not realize was criminal behavior at the time, he said. Saying he took the break-ins personally, Sgt. Curtis said the police were working hard to solve the case. “That’s what we do,” he said. “I’m going to work it and stay on it until I just think there isn’t any further I can go.” Anyone with information should call Denton police at 940-349-8181 or call Denton County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-388-TIPS (8477). Callers will remain anonymous.

http://media.www.smudailycampus.com/media/...s-2950257.shtml Bennett Readies For North Texas Coach says team must put Tech game behind them There was little time to dwell on the shellacking SMU received from Texas Tech at head coach Phil Bennett's weekly press conference. He and his team were already turning their attention to Saturday's opponent, the University of North Texas. "Right now, after this game, I thought we were further along than we are," Bennett said. "Right now we're a work in progress." Bennett said he spent most of Monday night at Ford Stadium. He wants to make sure SMU comes out prepared on Saturday, avoiding a repeat of last year's 24-6 loss to the Mean Green. One major change will be the way SMU runs the offense. Players were running the offense using wristbands with plays written on them. The idea was to speed up play on the field, but it just wound up causing problems. Bennett said they would go back to calling in plays from the sidelines starting this week against North Texas. SMU practiced with the wristband system the entire summer and during mini-camps when school was back in session. The team didn't experience any difficulties until the system was put into use Monday against Texas Tech. "Both times they struggled with it we were in the red zone, and it took us out of rhythm," Bennett said. "It's a coaching mistake; we should have gotten rid of it faster." SMU's defense is planning for both North Texas quarterbacks. Junior Daniel Meager and freshman Giovanni Vizza saw playing time during North Texas' 79-10 loss to Oklahoma. Meager was benched in the middle of the game and Vizza was put in the game, scoring the only touchdown for North Texas. Bennett said they don't know what the Mean Green will do at quarterback, but his team will be prepared for both of them. Since this will be only the second game for North Texas head coach Todd Dodge, Bennett has been studying game tapes from Dodge's Southlake Carroll games, where he coached previously. One thing Bennett isn't budging on is the "All Out" blitz, which has gained notoriety in a not-so-good way for the SMU defense. Defensemen could be heard on the ESPN telecast and in person at Ford Stadium yelling "All Out" before blitzing the Texas Tech offense. Bennett said the blitzing scheme was effective except for one play. That play resulted in a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tech receiver Danny Amendola. He said the blitz would remain in the SMU playbook because the defense can line up in different formations.

It told me the same thing. It took me a few times before I could vote.

http://colleges.beloblog.com/archives/2007...d.html#comments SMU's Quick Turnaround The vibe felt down at SMU's press luncheon today, as would be expected so soon after a 49-9 loss Monday to Texas Tech. Even the humongous block of cheese Mr. Bailey (of Bailey's First &10 Sports Bar of course) brought over for the lunch seemed to excite only me. Coach Phil Bennett said he'd been at the stadium most of the night. It's a tough turnaround with North Texas visiting Saturday already. Bennett said the Mustangs have to find a way to move on. SMU knows all about not being able to afford a loss to UNT. The Mustangs regretted last season's 24-6 loss in Denton all season, but especially when they finished the year one win shy of a bowl bid. "I told my players yesterday," Bennett said. "It’s not a situation that scares me. I’m determined. I’m not going to sit back and dwell. I’m going to see what we can do better. It’s not a situation we can not fix." You have to think the offense won't be as overmatched against UNT. Bennett blamed poor execution more than anything. SMU was just 4-of-15 on third-down conversions. The receivers dropped a lot of passes. Bennett also said the team struggled with its new system of using wristbands in situations where they wanted to hurry up the offense. It caused confusion instead, and SMU's dumping the wristbands. As for defense, ESPN picked up SMU yelling "All Out" when the Mustangs blitzed. Bennett said he's used it for most of his coaching career and it represents different blitzes in different formations, so he's sticking with it. SMU didn't sack Tech quarterback Graham Harrell and rarely pressured him.
