  1. My palms are all sweatty and I feel like I am back in college waiting for my grades to post. This is nerve racking.
  2. Didn't Flyer say he would have results around 5:15 tonight? Will we break the record for Gomeangreen.com traffic on the site tonight at around 5:15? I think this board will be jam packed and hope the servers don't fail us. GMG!!!
  3. Congo? http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTbx8hRfZIeHgB...congo_rel90.jpg
  4. The quote actually says, "They just told us. It's what he deserved," said senior quarterback Cullen Harper..." You can take that two ways: 1. They told us it's what he deserved. or 2. I think it's what he deserved. If it is the latter than those are harsh words from his QB.
  5. I never said the stadium is the "fix all". I don't think it is. What I do think is that it is a piece of the puzzle to a better athletic department and better university. When we have hosted higher profile teams to play at Fouts(Baylor, TCU, Tulsa, SMU) we have had some of the highest attendance figures. A new stadium will attract higher profile teams. Higher attendance means more ticket revenue. More fans mean more concession revenue and more parking revenue. Why wouldn't companies "plop" down money to put there name(s) on the new stadium. We don't need one company, we need several that are willing to pay money in return for their name on one of the most traveled interstates in the country. And beleive me a name on a stadium is MUCH more visible than a billboard. Alot of donors want to see that the universty and students are serious about improvement before they are willing to give more to the program. I think that passage of the fee will show the commitment they are waiting to see. I want to be clear that I am, in no way, trying to attack you. I think we both want a better athletic program and better university. You wouldn't post on this board if you didn't .
  6. Either you don't get it or you don't want to get it. The fee is an athletic fee, not a stadium fee. Some of the money will be used to pay off some of the debt that the university issues to fund the construction of the stadium. The fee can also be used for other athletic needs as well such as salaries, equipment, maintenace and upkeep for a new stadium, etc...as there is no sundown provision to phase the fee out that I know of. Do you think corporations will now stop advertising alltogether because of the economy. No more commercials, billboards, ads, etc... The answer is no. The naming and secondary rights for the new stadium are, in essence, advertising for the companies. There names will be there for all to see during football games, band competitions, concerts, as well as for the thousands of cars that pass by on a daily basis. You don't have to attend a Mavericks or Stars game to see the giant AA at the American Airlines center if you drive on 35E. When I graduated there was no Rec Center, Health Center, Gateway Center but I paid for them with my student fees and I am glad I did because it is for the greater good of the University.
  7. Yeah but let's remember that although the restaurant up the road has had great food and a fun atmosphere the last two years, if the head chef doesn't win "Restaurant of the Year" next spring then he needs to start looking for a new job.
  8. It's anybodys guess as to how this vote will turn out... ahem, ahem... Longjim you there?
  9. The old chef was all about meat and potatoes same meal day in and day out. And when we compalined about the fly in our roast beef he told us f*@%ers to kiss his a$$. I overheard him telling the other chefs that it was them versus us and if we didn't like roast beef then too f%&(^ing bad. It was only a matter of time after pulling that stunt and replacing all the tablecloths with black ones. What a kick to the nuts. The new chef is too tricked up. All expensive sauces and cheap meats. What was he thinking putting his son on expo. He is a damn first year sous chef for cryin out loud.
  10. FIU 31 NT 23 It's going to be a long season.
  11. My wife bought me the new Mac Engel book "Texas Stadium: Americas Home Field - Reliving the Legends... ". The book details some of the memorable moments, events, and games in the stadium. It covers Cowboys, college, high school. It even covers the Von Erichs and Billy Graham. 1. I never knew that North Texas played the first ever football game at the new stadium when we beat Louisville 20-17 on October 16, 1971. The Cowboys and the city of Irving used the game as a "dry run" to determine traffic flow for Cowboys games. Attendance was around 12,000. It is tagged as the "First Upset" in Texas Stadium history. Nice write up about the game. 2. The next page in the book deals with our loss to SMU 7-6 on September 14, 1974 and is titled "The What If Game" as a win could have been a big boost to our program. It was also Hayden's first crack at his old school. Mac considers this one of the greatest games ever played at Texas Stadium. 3. Riley Dodge is pictured celebrating after Carroll's win against Trinity in 2006. A good read for fans of local football. Not just the Cowboys. Anybody on the board at either of those two games?
  12. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTb_5sV8VI.RoA...ls_gulli_s2.jpg That sucks! I thought you meant the show was coming back.
  13. I responded because the post made me laugh. Get over yourself.
  14. RV used to be an assistant football coach. Once a coach always a coach.
  15. So sad to hear that this young man has to go through this at such a young age. Prayers go out to Antoine and his family.
  16. http://theparisnews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=69b81a8bbdd3b038 http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2008/08/john_m...the_son_of.html Coach Stallings was brought in several years ago as a consultant to the athletic department. I think he really helped steer RV and the new regime in the right direction. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
  17. A stroke would be more enjoyable.
  18. If we turn dirt by this fall then there will be plenty of time to have the stadium operational for the 2010 season. We have the design firm selected who I would assume has been designing said stadium since their selection this spring. The flood and grading studies have been completed to our knowledge. Once the go ahead is given, then we should be able to turn the dirt pretty quickly. We didn't cancel the hotel lease for nothing. We didn't purchase all of the Eagle Point land many moons ago for nothing. We didn't get our Title 9 ducks in a row so quickly for nothing. We didn't put the baseball program on the back burner for nothing. Where is Moot when we need him.
  19. Apparently your idea of tossed salad and my idea of tossed salad are totally different or else that was one hell of a wedding reception.
  20. Not saying you, or anyone else, is a bad fan nor am I saying that you shouldn't question the hiring of a coach. We will never know what happened in the interviews. We will never know whether money, gender, or race came into play because nobody in the position to make those decisions is ever going to admit that those issues had an impact in the decision. I hope race or gender wasn't an issue but if they were, it isn't Coach Stephens fault. She didn't hire herself. If they were an issue than I am deeply dissapointed in the administration. My only goal with my post was to rally some positive support for our new basketball coach and to make her feel welcome in light of some of the dissaproval with her hiring. Nothing more, Nothing less.
  21. Shanice Stephens has not coached one game yet. She has not even been "officially" hired yet. She hasn't met the players. She hasn't run her first practice. She hasn't been on her first recruiting trip. She hasn't held her first press conference yet. She hasn't even had the opportunity to tell us what her plans are for the program yet. She probably HAS read this board or at least heard the comments some have been posting regarding how bad of a hire she is. If you don't like the hire, then slam RV, Nancy Lieberman, the board, the search committee, anyone but Coach Stephens. Why don't we just accept the fact that she, by all accounts, will be the next coach of The University of North Texas Lady Eagles basketball team and embrace her as one of the family. Why is that concept so hard to understand? Congrats Coach Stephens and welcome aboard!!!
  22. http://clemsontigers.cstv.com/sports/w-bas..._shanice00.html Can we PLEASE just give her a chance. She has not even coached one game at NT yet and people are already acting like it was the worst hire NT has ever made. Plenty of people complained(me being one of them) about hiring JJ as an assistant out of Alabama a few years ago but that has turned out pretty well. Welcome aboard Coach Stephens. I, for one, am excited that you are now part of the Mean Green family.
