  1. Do you prefer that UNT goes with an offinsive coordinator or a defensive corrdinator if we go the assistant coach route. We have tried our luck with offensive coaches the last three times and that didn't seem to go terribly well. I think it might be time to bring someone in that knows his way around a defense. Regardless of the side of the ball he comes from though I want the coach to be someone who will tghten the ship up around here. Someone who won't tolerate the stupid penalties. Someone who likes a little hitting in practice. Someone who isn't afraid to step to the podium the week before a game and tell the world that we plan to kick(insert BCS school here)'s ass. Somone who can fire up the team and fire up the fan base. Someone who isn't afraid to take the blame when something goes wrong and who is willing to spread the glory when it does go right. I want someone who will step into a recruits home and tell them that "you will win at North Texas" and really beleive it. I want someone who sees the potential for UNT to not just be the next Boise State but the team that in 20 years other teams can only hope and dream to emulate. I am sick and tired of being laughed at at work because I support UNT. I want to start laughing at everyone else and I want a coach who understands that.
  2. It wouldn't matter if we hired Charles Manson as the head coach. Crispin Glover as the OC and Glen Campbell as the DC. I would support the coaching staff and the University whole heartedly. I may not agree with the choice of coaching staff but damn if that wouldn't make for some interesting games.
  3. For those that hated the DD's offense and attitude, you'll REALLY hate Coach Frans offense and attitude. This would, however, get the attention of the casual fan and probably the ESPN's of the world. I for one would not like this scenario.
  4. We still have a few games left this year.
  5. Well I think that both Leavitt and Bowden have had great head job experience in the past and both look forward to more head jobs at D1A Universities in the near future. They have given and given to their past universities until it hurt. We could easily hand the job to them.
  6. I hope he does come out to the games and gets to see Riley play as a proud father and not as a coach. It must have been very difficult to seperate the dad side and the coach side.
  7. So here's a strange scenario. I know most of the parents of players who are able to attend games do so and support their kids to the fullest. Would TD come to the games to see RD play and, if so, what do you think the reception would be like? Let's be clear, I have no problem whatsoever with him in the stands but I am not sure how surreal that scene would be.
  8. We have had alot of talk recently about who we all want as the next coach at UNT. There have been alot of names thrown around with varying degrees of probability. What I want to know is who you think we will hire. I think the reality is that we will go with someone who is looking for a 2nd chance ala Frank Solich, Schnelly, Larry Coker, etc… That would narrow it down to Bower, Bowden, or Leavitt. Bowden seems to have his sights set higher. I am afraid that Leavitt might price out of our range. I think it might be Bower as we can afford him, he has ties to RV, and he has head job experience
  9. Curious to see if it is a reassignment or an outright "hit the bricks" situation. Not sure if Canales is auditioning or RV already has his short list and Chico is just here to bridge the gap. It will make for an interesting few weeks. Good luck to TD in the future GMG
  10. 1310 the Ticket talking Dodge now. They just broke in with the "Breaking News" sounder. News conference later.
  11. My wife is an Aggie so I root for A&M as my 2nd team. It is strange because I never thought I could have the same passion for another team but I do for the Aggies. But let's get this straight. If the Aggies played the Mighty Mean Green I would root for the boys in Green all the way.
  12. If RV fires/re-assigns Dodge after the 6th loss it would allow the 30-day hiring window to start in mid-October. That would allow RV to hire a new coach in mid November if he needed to. This would allow a new coach to start the process of hiring assistants and start the process of hitting the recruiting trail much earlier then we did for Dodge's first season. It would also pump some blood into the fan base for the last half of the season and maybe put some more butts in the seats. 6 weeks can make all the difference in the world in the recruiting game.
  13. http://meangreenblog...ves/2009/11/23/ I got to thinking about the difference in cash between firing coach Dodge and "re-assigning" him within the department. Vito has a good write-up that helps clarify some of the economics of RV's impending decision. Keep in mind this was written last season so the University would only be on the hook for one year.
  14. RV absolutely has to wait until the 6th loss to fire Dodge. Any sooner and he will have no credibility with any of his current or future employees. Your word is your word. I trust RV already has a short list of coaching candidates ready to go and will be able to hit the ground running. That said, Dodge ain't done yet but the lady with the horns on her hat is warming up.
  15. Trust me, If anyone could find a way to lose by less than one point it would be Todd Dodge.
  16. So sad to hear that a member of the Mean Green family has passed. I feel for his family, his friends, and the team. It is somewhat heartening to know that at least he knew he was going to get to suit up after all of his hard work. My thoughts and prayers to all who knew Josh and the entire Mean Green family. May God comfort you all.
  17. Don't bash 105.3. They are the 4th highest rated all-sports station in DFW.
  18. They started to light the tower green but the bulbs broke. Then they put in the backup bulbs and they broke almost immediately also. Havn't seen such a rash of season ending broken bulbs in a long time. I blame the maintenance staff for not going out and getting suitable back-up bulbs and having them ready to play, I mean light.
  19. In the immortal words of the former mayor of Dallas, the Honorable Laura Miller: "No"
  20. Ok I'll play that game. The fans deserve a better head coach. We deserve a more prepared coach. We deserve more than five wins in the Dodge era. Dodge is in the "shoes" he is in because he is 5-34. Read that again 5-34. I will rally around this team all day long but to ask me to rally around a coach that makes Jerry Moore and Matt Simon look like Vince Lombardi and Bear Bryant is asking a bit much.
  21. Worse? I guess you're right. Todd Dodge could get an extension.
  22. Put it in 1/4 inch Times New Roman in the "in other sports" section of the DMN(if they can even find room for us there). Army 34 UNT 28 Another candy and nuts game.
  23. Luther Van Dam or Wally Rig. Anyone else and we are just being shortsighted.
  24. Tune: Got drilled by the defender. Not sure where Char screwed up on that one. Ford: Broken leg. Not sure you can condition a bone not to snap when the right amount of force is applied but I am not a doctor. Jones: Had his leg landed on by a Clemson defender and it bent all kinds of wrong. Pretty sure it wasn't Char but maybe he still has eligibility left. JJ Johnson: Got his foot stepped on by another player. Char should have seen that one coming. Neal: Out for year Cook: Out for year Carey: Hand injury that is affecting his play: Char told him to lift the furniture with his legs.
  25. Dude, I think we all see the writing on the wall but let's not start dancing on his grave just yet. At least let him die before you take his boots and his shootin' irons.
