Official Statement from UNT AD on Coach McCarney
Eagle-96 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Prayers for a speedy recovery. Get well Coach Mac. -
Like many of our Native American dialects are dying away as the older generations pass on, so may the hatred for SMU. Sadly the new generation of the Mean Green Nation knows nothing of the SWC C#*^k block SMU gave us back in the 70's. They unfortunately never had a chance to see the "Cash over Trash" signs. Why most freshman have never even experienced the sneers and snickering at the watercooler of injustice. We need to act now to preserve this hatred. How can you help? I'm glad you asked. For only the price of a cup of coffee per day you too can help keep the bile and disdain flowing like the glorious waters of the River Jordan. With your help, future generations of proud UNT students and alums will have the morsels of anger in their empty stomachs that they so desperately need. Won't you help? Paid for by The UNT Alumni for a better tomorrow

Yu Darvish
Eagle-96 replied to Rudy's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I think the misconception here is that it's the MLB teams that don't want to sign Fielder and are shying away. Prince has a sayso in the process too. He knows he can get really good money from Washington and the Cubs. If the Rangers had not signed Yu then he could have gotten comparable money from Texas. Now that Texas has signed Yu, Fielder can decide if he wants great money from the Nats or Cubs or slightly less from Texas with a greater prospect of winning championships. I think it is more a function of Fielder waiting for the dust to settle than anything else. -
Yu Darvish
Eagle-96 replied to Rudy's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Yu is in a better position to succeed then those that came before him from Japan. Yu will be slotted as 2-3 in the rotation which should releive some of the pressure to be an Ace. Yu will have the best pitching coach in the majors in Mike Maddux. He will have hall of famer Nolan Ryan to consult with. He will have one of the best fielding pitchers in history in Greg Maddux. He will also have 3 teammates on the team that have piched in NPB and MLB with Lewis, Uehara, and Tateyama. Having someone who speaks his language and knows the ins and outs of both leagues is going to be vital. Yu also has fewer innings on his arm then most pitchers that have come across. The real test wll be October. If he can perform well in the post season and the Rangers can win the World Series then CJ will be forgotten in short order. -
I hate to say it but SMU is moving to an AQ conference in 2013 and has about $2 million to spend so it is probably an upgrade. I wouldn't blame Mac for leaving for more money and a chance at a BCS bowl if he wins his conference. UNT just can't offer that at present.
-
This is an important tipping point for Smoo. Jones took them from being a joke to a very respectable program and an AQ conference. This next hire is extremely important in that they can go the way of TCU and be a 10 to 11 game winner every year or they could go back to the Phil Bennett days and fade into oblivion at the bottom of the Big East. No doubt they have the money to spend on a coach. They just have to make the right decision. There are plenty of names out there(Sherman, Erickson, Applewhite, Stoops). This could also benefit UNT in that recruits might now back on the table: DB Horace Richardson(interest) 3 star LB Lincoln Richard(offer) 3 star LB Damien Neroes(offer) 3 star DE Elie Nabushoshi(interest) 2 star

You have given the last 4, sometimes 5, years of your life to this program. You fought through the brutal August practices. The early morning weight sessions. You have endured the circle drill, the bumps, the blood, and the sprains. You played your guts out and represented the Mean Green as best as anyone could ask for. Congratulations to those that have already, or soon will, have their degrees. We are proud of you. You will forever be an alumni of NORTH TEXAS. And that is something to be proud of. Because of the groundwork you and your teammates have layed, the mean Green are on the rise again(2001 anyone). Good luck in the future and thank you.

Vito tweeted about an hour ago: "UNT is still waiting on the NCAA to rule on Roger Franklin's eligibility appeal. He won't play tomorrow if UNT doesn't get the ok."

This is part of the ULM game notes for this upcoming Saturdays game against Louisiana-Monroe. This is not from the Post game notes from the La La game last week.

1. Darius Carey was kicked off the team for violating team rules. It doesn't matter what he did(and frankly it is none of our business). He was kicked off because Coach Mac thought it was enough of a violation(s) to warrant dismissal. I back Coach Mac wholeheartedly in his desire to play the right way, not just play. I'm sorry Cooley. I agree with you most times but I think you are wrong if you want UNT to overlook violations at the expense of winning now. That just makes us Miami.(and no, I wouldn't trade places with Miami as they are an embarrasment to college football). 2. Coach Mac has a plan. He is not starting McNulty out of nepotism. No coach worth his salt will jeopardize their job to play a friends kid. He evaluated the play of Osborne and McNulty and went with the one that played the best last week against the scout team. He been there and done that at the highest levels of college football. I trust his handling of this football team. I, and alot of others, expected 1-4 with the possible win being against Indiana. That is where we are. 3. We have three qbs that have D1 game experience now. At the start of this year we had one with very limited experience. Game experience is crucial to a qbs development. There is no substitue for in game reps. I will feel much better going into next season with the experince at the position. We haven't been truly solid at the position since Scott Hall graduated. As good as Hall was, he had to go through growing pains during his freshman year to get there(BTW "there" will eventually by the UNT Hall of Fame). Those freshman ups and downs are what prepared him for the next 4 years.

My wife is also an Aggie. When I attend Aggie games I wear Aggie gear to support my wife. She does the same for me when we are at Mean Green events and sports Mean Green gear.
-
Sorry but people should be smart enough to not wear a third teams gear to a sporting event. I would rather that he was wearing Indiana gear than TU. If he doesn't want to be ridiculed, don't wear the wrong gear.

I had big trouble with AT&T. Texts and emails did not transmit and the signal was weak to non-existent. Hopefully it is something they work on as it is nice to be able to get the stream of the radio play by play while at the game.
-
They did play the SunBelt commercial on the Ubertron during the game but that is all I recall as far as anything relating us to the SunBelt at all.

I was in section 102 and was front and center for the "tipped" punt. Not a chance it was tipped. If it was the Houston player would have a broken hand. Also(and I do not mean this in a sexist way at all) the female line judge certainly had some odd ball spots and seemed to miss some holding calls. Also blew 2 illegal shift calls when we had multiples in motion. I guess she thinks the players have to reset for 2 minutes after the shift.

I think one of the long line issues stems from the volunteers that run the concessions. I know that they are working for free and asking for donations to their cause(boy scouts, local schools, etc...) but the lines I went to were long because the people didn't even know how to run the cash register and didn't appear to be trained at all. Again, I realize they are raising money through donations for their cause and they are saving the university money it would cost to staff the stands with employees but they REALLY NEED TO BE TRAINED TO DO THE JOBS THEY ARE TASKED WITH. Aside from that I was thrilled with the myriad of options(Rudys, Beth Maries, Kettle Corn, Sonic) and the prices are reasonable.

How about Keenum acting on the late "hit" when Akpunku tapped him. Keenum looked like he was shot and flailed to the ground.
-
He reminds me a great deal of JaMel Branch. They are both guys that you just simply find a way to get the ball in their hands. Brelan still has some growing to do on offense. He forced a timeout right before the Power touchdown by being out of position. Thompson let him have it in no uncertain terms. He also had a couple of drops that could have gone big. He will get there though. Chico just get him the ball. BTW: Electric is exactly the way to describe him. I made that comment to my wife on his big return in the 2nd half. I just might have used some saltier language.

1. Andrew McNulty showed great poise for a true freshman. He brings a different dimension to the position. I think this will payoff more over the next few weeks as teams will now have film of him and will realize he is a decent threat to run. I think teams will have to plan for 2 quarterbacks and it will make in game adjustments more difficult for our opponents. 2. The oline did a fantastic job in pass blocking. They need to make some improvements in the run blocking but they will get there. Houston had to resort to the blitz to get any pressure. 3. The Dline did not get any consistent push. This is what made the snacks look bad most of the night. Coach Mac will need to make this a priority in recruiting. Keenum had days to throw and wasn't really hurried very often. 4. The crowd was electric at times. The stadium really holds the noise well. 5. Disappointed the Houston didnt bring their band. That always makes a game more enjoyable IMHO.

I think Mac is playing the younger guys as he sees it as a way to build experience for the next few years. Next year we will have experienced O-lineman coming back. We will have multiple qbs with experience. This will pay dividends down the line. It's gonna take time for Mac to build this team but he is laying the foundation by playing his guys early to get them them the game reps they need now. Listen, these freshman could be redshifted and grow and mature through a year of practice but there is no substitute for game experience. Period. It may be painful in the short term but it will be worth it.

http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=6936471 A truly sad day for all fans of FC Dallas and soccer in general as former lifetime player for Dallas Burn/FC Dallas and current Play-by-play announcer for FC Dallas games, Bobby Rhine, has passed away. Bobby died on Monday evening at the age of 35 of an apparent heart attack while on vacation with his family. Thoughts and prayers to his friends, family, and fans.

I think I found why we didnt play very well! Incredible

How dare they! The team should have been sacrificing disabled panther cubs or at least pushing an old lady down the stairs or something. Show some passion! The dancing and listening to music before the game must stop immediately. Does RV know that they were being typical 18-22 year old kids? They could have at least been watching Braveheart or Any Given Sunday clips. We should all burn our season tickets post haste. -
Florida gives me a general sense of malaise and their citizens are not as approachable as they could be. What's up now Florida? Didn't think so!
