Anyone else notice when Coach Benford said "With the conference realignment shape up and some moves going on I think we'll have some more stuff to sell".

UNT picks new women's coach Mike Peterson of Wake Forest
Eagle-96 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
http://www.wakefores...sen_mike00.html Interesting points: He has coached at the collegiate level with both mens and womens teams He seems to be great at rebuilding terrible programs. Petersen joined the Golden Gophers in 1999 after three seasons as the head coach of the TCU women's basketball program from 1996-99. Inheriting a program that went 3-52 in the two years prior to his arrival, Petersen guided the Horned Frogs to the program's first-ever winning season, first-ever conference tournament victory and a then school record 16 wins in 1999. In his first full season with the Horned Frogs, he landed a recruiting class ranked in the top 25 by the Blue Star Report. Petersen was also instrumental as TCU raised its average attendance from 250 to 1,880 -- an increase of more than 750 percent. Prior to taking over at TCU, Petersen was the women's head coach at New Mexico State University from 1992-96. Similar to TCU, he inherited a program that went 30-32 the previous two seasons and did not return a single starter for the 1992-93 season. In his four seasons with the Aggies, Petersen recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons and compiled an 81-38 (.681) overall record and a 53-19 (.736) record in Big West Conference games. Petersen, who led the Aggies to their first-ever Big West Conference title in 1995, was responsible for the development of 1995-96 All-American and WNBA player, Anita Maxwell. Not only did he sign a top 25 recruiting class, but Petersen also helped the Aggies lead the Big West Conference in attendance all four years -
At what point does JJ stretch this too Far?
Eagle-96 replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The incentive would be that if RV revises his contract to add a little more money next year(possibly equivalent to the SEC buyout clause difference), JJ would negate the decreased SEC buyout provision in the contract. This would give JJ some more cash in his pocket up front and it would, in turn, signal his commitment to UNT. He would, in essence, leverage his courtship from LSU and SMU into some extra cash. UNT would then be able to move forward with JJ as their coach next season and they would get back additional cash if JJ goes to LSU in the future. -
In other news: The North Korean missle has landed and destroyed Apogee stadium, The Super Pit, the entire Mean Green village, the old Snake Pit, and the Gateway Center. Luckily Fouts was untouched and should be ready for next season. If anybody wants to kick me in the nuts I am available most of the day. Or if you can't meet today, just send me a PM and I will kick myself in the nuts by proxy.

Baylor's Mulkey says Aston will be next UT women's coach
Eagle-96 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I don't blame her one bit. As Mulkey said, UT is a dream job for Aston and it is among a handful of jobs that you just don't pass up. I wish her the best of luck and thank her for getting the program back on track. RV hit a home run with Aston and it's time to hit another. -
I can't think of anyone who doesn't like T & A. The conference taglines will be great: "T & A. Come get some" "T & A in your face" "T & A. Fun for the whole family" "T & A all across America"

Replacing FIU with South Alabama is huge as is the national telecast on Oct 16. This will help us showcase Apogee to a wide audience. -

Which proves the Caine-Hackman theory.

Not surprising at all. We have been bad for a several years now. Until we win on a consistent basis, our team and players will be overlooked. Lance will probably have to earn his way onto a roster through free agency much the same way that Cobbs did. If anyone can do it, Lance can.

Either my brain just melted or that was the greatest post ever. It could go either way.

A&M picks up Sam Houston on Schedule
Eagle-96 replied to Voice of Reason's topic in Mean Green Football
point taken. Even then it would make for a brutal OOC schedule. -
A&M picks up Sam Houston on Schedule
Eagle-96 replied to Voice of Reason's topic in Mean Green Football
Why? So we could play LSU, Kansas State, Houston, AND Texas A&M in OOC. I know Coach Mac isn't afraid to play anybody but that would really be asking alot of our team to play the first month of the season on the road. -
Thoughts on this TCU mess
Eagle-96 replied to emmitt01's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
I think when all is said and done most of these kids will end up with probation, community service, and fines if it is their first offense. Not sure that any of these kids will do hard time in the big house. The biggest impact will be on their future employment opportunities. There are not many jobs anymore where you don't have to fill out the section of the application that asks if you have ever been arrested. Those that are covicted of felonies will never be allowed to vote or own a gun again. I am in no way condoning what they did. As Emmitt stated, they knew what they were doing was illegal. I am pretty sure these arrests are the first step in moving up the food chain to get to the bigger players and it won't take Serpico to get these kids to talk. I am also sure there are probably a few hundred kids at TCU that simultaneously flushed their stash yesterday in the fear that the police will be knocking on their doors as those already arrested give up names that they sold to. A bigger question is that: If, say, 60 football players failed their drug tests what does Patterson do. You can't very well suspend the entire team for several games next year. Not to mention those on the team that this might be strike 2 or 3 and subject to being kicked off the team. Not sure if the test results are subject to an FOI request since TCU is private but this could really set the team back on and off the field. -
Reports that Patterson sprung the surprise drug test on the team on February 1st after a prize recruit told Patterson that he was signing with another school due to drug use on the team. Also reports that a large majority of the team failed the test. It will be interesting to see how Pattersom spins it if most of the team failed.

Looks like big time linebacker Tanner Brock is one of those arrested. Not good for the defense at all.

I guess what I am getting at is that UNT will already be in the Belt and will, at the very least, not be on the outside looking in without a home at all. If TV drives this whole thing then schools like TXST and La Tech could be in serious trouble and play in Independent Hell.
-
Schools are in survival mode at this point. The MW/CUSA league has 2-8 spots to fill at this point. They will cherry pick from the Belt and WAC(and A-10 to an extent). If you're not already in the alliance then your best bet is to campaign behind the scenes to get into the alliance. If you are left out then hope and pray that you are in position to be in the new Belt. We will be ok either way. If we are invited to the MW/CUSA then we will have what looks to be a better TV deal(more $$$) and some good regional games(Tulsa, Rice, Tulane). If we are not invited then we will still be in the SunBelt with the addition of some established WAC teams. The schools with the real worry are teams like UTSA, Texas State San Marcos, and La Tech who may not have a home if/when the WAC implodes. I just think the Belt is more stable and, as such, the WAC will be the one to go away. My best guess is that the MW/CUSA goes to either 20 or 24 teams. At 20 I like Temple(Hawaii balance), FIU(Miami market), and UNT(DFW market) in the east with Utah State with UTEP moving west. This gives 9 conference games and 3 OOC. At 24 I like the above with additions of WKU(basketball), MTSU(travel partner) east and SJSU and NMSU(barring block from UTEP and UNM) out west. This give 4 pods of 6 teams(2 east and 2 west). 5 pod games and 3 games against the other pod in your division with 3 OOC games. Then you get into the semifinal rounds and championship.

ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard Speaks on Merger
Eagle-96 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I understand where ECU is coming from regarding travel. Just remember back to the Big West days when we had to travel to the west coast. Not saying that ECU has a great alternative but that I feel their pain.
