  1. Launch away. I would be thrilled if we named an up and comer as head coach and he left for a bigger job after 3-4 years following a turnaround of the program. Then we insert successful coordinator or hire another young up and comer and start the cycle again ala Boise State. Remember until 1968 Boise was a junior college and until 1997 was 1AA/FCS. In the years since they have flown by us at light speed. We have the facilities, athletic fee, and DFW recruiting hotbed to follow suit. As long as Neal Smatresk is all in, there is NO reason we cant.
  2. More like getting T-boned on Bonnie Brae by the Port-o-Potty truck and then having the Carter Blood Care bus hit whats left of your car. Yep, bloody diarrhea pretty much sums up the current state of UNT football.
  3. Please, Please, Please do not put anyone on this search committee that 1. Does not have an athletics background. 2. Does not have skin in the game. I DO NOT want someone that teaches advanced tuba to make the decision on who is gonna coach this football team. I'm sure the Engineering School would not want Hank Dickenson deciding who their Dean is. I want: 1. The AD(preferably a new one but that may not be feasible) and some of his/her staff. 2. Neal Smatresk 3. A couple of former players from different eras that have been active with the school. I want someone who truly cares about this program as much as everyone on this board does. 4. The only outside firm(people) I want in the room are those that can vet candidates for skeletons and past histories. I don't want to hire someone that comes back to bite us. I don't want a Bobby Petrino or Steve Sarkisian fiasco.
  4. No
  5. RV is in a no lose situation here. If "the committee" picks a coach that is successful then RV will take the credit for his tireless efforts and research in spite of the shackles the search team placed on him. If "the committee" picks a dud then he will hang them out to dry and say his poor little hands were tied and it's just not his fault they forced this guy on him. This is playing out perfectly for RV. We have no time to properly conduct a search and hire an AD and then have the new AD have the time to hire a coach. If we did this we would be dead in the water in terms of recruiting. Firing Mac was RV's saving grace and he knows it. He has Neal right where he wants him and we're all paying the price for it.
  6. The Mac hire came out of a Search Firm recommendation. I'd prefer not to go down that path again.
  7. The team will come out energized behind a new coach and new QB but WKU is good REALLY good. WKU 52 UNT 17
  8. We're number one baby. YESSSSSS. Wait, What
  9. I had a few choices to pick from. UNT had a football program that was in the process of moving to D1A. That was a deciding factor for me. I graduated with my BBA and have had a long career in the Finance industry. I was academically inclined yet used a D1 athletic program be a tipping point for me. Said athletic program has provided me with many fond memories that I would not have been able to enjoy had I chosen the other schools of choice.
  10. Chuck Woolery thinks it will be 2 & 2. I agree with Chuck Woolery.
  11. There has been a lot of talk about coaching candidates from offensive and defensive coordinators at other schools to FCS, D2, and JUCO head coaches. There is talk of the kind of coach we need as a recruiter. Do we need a young hungry coach or someone with skins on the wall. The most important thing to remember is: If Rick Villarreal stays as AD and picks the next football coach then nothing else matters. Nothing.

  12. If there is you can be sure there will be nothing but cupcake questions read from 8x10's. "And our next question is from Nick Schmillaveal"
  13. My fear is that RV makes the hire period. Nothing else should matter.
  14. The point of my post was that t I just don't think that any AD here will have the stones to pull the trigger on a JC coach. RV wont go down that path again and a new AD won't make that his first hire. Just stating the realities.
  15. He may be a great coach with a great system but I think too many people around here have a sour taste for hiring a coach that is making that big of a jump in coaching levels. I don't think this hiring would go over too well. Again, he may be the best man for the job but I just don't see RV, or any other AD(fingers crossed), making that call after the Dodge fiasco.
  16. I remember taking tennis in PE class and smelling the amazing smells coming from the the Pickup 3 days a week. It was torture. My stomach growled the entire time.
  17. See. We let Mac go and our record is already improving.
  18. I am more concerned that baseball does not get delayed and RV makes the coaching hire. THAT would be the real travesty here.
  19. I think this sounds EXACTLY like something RV would do. This is the man that hired Todd Dodge and Shanice Stephens. He is sitting in his office with a stolen bottle of Grey Goose giggling like a school girl. The only reason he didn't hire Tri-Head coaches is because Coach Perry told him to go eff himself.
